Here’s a massive rumor for you: GameFront has been told a source close to the matter EA CEO John Riccitiello will be replaced by EA Sports boss Peter Moore. The news is set to be announced after July 30 earnings call, when Riccitiello will be asked to step down as CEO.

Again, take this with a grain of salt for now, but if true, this is huge news.

The source stated that while Moore replacing Riccitiello was not set in stone, as the board has yet to vote on the matter, the source said there’s a “general feeling of tension throughout EA’s studios,” due to the company’s falling stock prices.

Riccitiello has been CEO of EA since 2007, after a a hiatus when he originally left the firm in April 2004 as well as his position as COO.

Since returning, Riccitiello has overseen the Origin platform and the recent decision to point the company in an all digital direction.

Crikey. That would be sort of crazy. With Moore's recent promotion, it seems less crazy though.

I would think that among the public-facing people and based on his trajectory in the company, Moore is probably the most likely candidate to replace John Riccitiello.

Now, that doesn't mean I actually believe Riccitiello is leaving this month or that this rumour is true. It might be, it might not.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

So what if he says no ?

Wouldn't this month be the best month to do it with all the financials coming out?

I do not feel strongly one way or another

Hard to believe a rumor when the facts aren't right: Peter Moore is not the boss EA Sports anymore, he's now the COO of EA.

I hope Moore will make this begemoth profitable and a bit more consumer-friendly. I like the guy.

I don't really know what Moore would really do that differently and he actually might be worse. It seems people just really dislike Riccitello.

Moore will make this begemoth profitable and a bit more consumer-friendly.

Those two do not go together for many corporations. If anything I would expect the fat to be trimmed even harder within the company specifically looking at places like Bioware Austin after they give up on the old republic

Bioware has nothing but a disaster for EA so for. And to be honest, I liked Bioware more when they were independent. Going around opening studios everywhere....what were they thinking?

Is this good or bad news?

Good news for Microsoft maybe? Exclusive games, DLC, promotions etc?

Yeah, I figure at worst EA will at least be more likeable even if the practices remain repugnant, so I can probably tolerate or even enjoy their press conferences more.

Peter Moore was great at Microsoft, I really like the guy, something about him. Then again, positions of power can change people.

Why would you think that?

All this is going to do is destroy Moore's image.

Possible, or his image could be improved and he could be remembered for turning around the anti-consumeristic policy's and behavior of Electronic Arts, and making a more consumer friendly company.

I respect what Riccitiello's done in the past few years within EA compared to where it was, say, in 2006. But it seems SWTOR might have been the final straw, really. Shame, but them's the brakes.

Any bets Riccitiello rocks up at Zynga next alongside Schappert and the rest of the ex-EA crew?

Microsoft buys Activision. Microsoft's mole inside EA soon to become CEO. Coincidence? I think not.

It's been the plan all along.

I respected EA's initiatives from 2006-2008 building new IPs and starting up the EA Partners program. EA's handling of things the last few years has been awful. Well outside of Battlefield I guess.

Ahahahaha this killed me.

I'd like to know how much of this is indeed a result of ToR. That's a tough pill to swallow if it's the majority

I kinda still see Peter Moore as a huge Microsoft fan, he was the CEO, I just hope he's not biased towards Microsoft.

Finally, Microsoft has gotten another one of their peons into the head position of another company. Acquisition incoming?

This. Specifically, is this good news or bad news from a consumer standpoint. (And making any comparisons to Microsoft's XBox service and his performance in that regard is not going to be confidence inspiring to the PC people here)

That's what I'm thinking. I really hope he's not a mole to Microsoft.

Exactly, he also was the Sega CEO when Sega made consoles so I am scared he won't want to fully support Nintendo and pretty much give Microsoft all the exclusives leaving Nintendo and Sony behind, lets just hope that doesn't happen.

I don't know why, but I read "Peter Moore" as Peter "Molyneux" and for a moment I thought that was a bit genius. Personally I don't have a problem with Ricitello.

Have they really? Other than Old Republic (which granted is a huge misstep), haven't their games been pretty profitable? I'm pretty sure even Dragon Age 2 was profitable. Or are you just heaping Mass Effect 3 ending hate on top of that despite the fact that they're probably making boat loads of money from that game.
