Fighting Games Weekly | November 19-25 | Only a sucker wastes a month for the Wii U

I know I'm super late, but happy Thanksgiving Fighting GAF. How you all had a fun time getting fat. Ate all day, watched football, watched Wreck it Ralph and now about to go shopping!

Just saw that ArcSys is having a Japanese tournament series next year, celebrating their 25th anniversary, Guilty Gear's 15th anniversary, and BlazBlue's 5th anniversary. Persona 4 Arena is there too.

Surprised to see Persona 4 Arena there.
Yeah they made it, but it's an Atlus title, and it's pretty much dead in Japan or something.
Maybe this means that it's getting an update?
Maybe they'll give us lobbies, spectator and the R patch next year for celebration. :/

Are there any discount codes for Brokentier going on this weekend? I was about to order the Parry shirt, but after shipping/currency conversion it was just slightly out of my range considering it's the holiday season. I was hoping for just under 30 bucks. =\

Did you hear about the 8-man tourney mode Darkstalkers Ressureciont is gonna get among it's online options?
Speaking of which, I'm making the OT for that game, unless someone's claimed it already?

I thought about it, but I don't think I'm the right person for the OT. Ask Judderman if he is up to the task just in case. He kinda came out of nowhere and reps the game all day.

Also...
*Added Tournament Mode to Versus menu
*Disables in-match Achievements/Trophies to prevent gameplay interruption
*Forces the following menu flow: Controller Select > Button Config > Character Selection > Play
*Forces default rounds and time settings, regardless of current options
*Disables Sparring Mode toggle
*Allows all non-DLC colors to be used regardless of in-game unlock status
*Returns to the controller select screen if 1P or 2P controller is unplugged at the post-match menu
*Forces button config whenever both players choose to return to character select
We need more tournament modes in our fighters. Everyone should use button config at character select.

There really needs to be some sort of best practices QC to ensure this kind of shit across all games. Even though Namco has been doing this for the better part of a decade with Soul Calibur, a separate team within the very same company can't be fucked to bring it into Tekken. Ridiculous.

Tekken traditionally has been in less need of it. Pad folks have the face buttons, stick folks use the buttons in the same spot , and there's a standard layout, unlike KOF.

It's probably the game least in need of this, so it's not too surprising.

Even for Tekken, if you have any early Xbox 360 stick or a Virtua Stick High Grade on PS3, you'll need to reconfigure buttons. There's no excuse.

This has become a nice, but useless feature. People don't button check anymore. Players tend to go for their most complex combo/setup now as players are not only checking buttons; they are also adjusting their timing for platform/tv differences.

Do you live on bizzaro Earth?

Button checks happen more now, than ever.

Read the rest. He's saying it's not as much of concern about buttons, more of a focus on input delays. Even with the char select button configuration, people still want to go in game to test delay

Ah yeah I see that now, my bad.

I once beat Aqua in the mirror match on stream. Probably the high point in my life next to beating
for a round
Ricky Ortiz.

Does anyone remember that site that fullscreens the stream with chat?

Curleh Mustache 5 thread will be up later today.

Cool idea, few issues:
- What makes it better than SRK forums' regional matchmaking? Or more directly, why would one person switch from that established area to this? They need to add a personal element (profiles, etc.) to it so people want to use it more.
- They need a way to confirm ratings. Both players should confirm they played each other in some way before they're allowed to rate each other to avoid spam. I feel like self-report win/loss ratio and breakdown vs. specific characters/teams is better than more subjective ratings, but that is a LOT more data to parse
- Oh god Eventhubs aesthetics, burn in a fire please oh god I'm dying from the ugliness

At this point, I feel like someone (I.e. SRK) should work on a full out platform where TOs can submit manage tournaments, players can have user profiles and sign up for tournaments and tournament pages, confirm ahead of time, see their seeding and live brackets on a website (sort-of like a Challonge plugin, but more integrated, especially with user profiles), keep a list of what they have attended associated to their user profile, etc. Just to integrate all the different stuff the FGC uses already and take out the reliance on forums for actual management of it (you can still have forums) to avoid messes like SRK tournament forums.

Is Arcade Culture considered a Daigo stuff, or is it just new? It's nice, but not for $30.

The lack of a centralized organizing entity (with a monetary stake in the game) really hurts the FGC. When you compare it to a game like M:TG that actually has three (WotC, SCG, TCGPlayer) you really see the difference in how it allows it to spread. The economics of the FGC are probably the biggest thing hindering its growth, imo.

no more collab shirts for a while, sorry. :( going to take a break and focus on building the core of BT designs up and getting the team taken care of before i branch out again

also, the arcade culture shirt was a request from daigo. he's really, really passionate about arcades and he's been running a campaign to promote arcades in japan for a while. i felt like this is one of my favorite pieces. and yes, it is expensive but i make sure to take care of the people i work with, and that requires i charge a bit more. :)
