Yeah one of them was able to take sprint out, I downloaded it and made it BR loadout with Halo 2 based speed.

I wish they had stuck with ODST style firefight where it was about survival and not about getting the most points or whatever. Getting the endure achievement was fun as hell.

Reach style firefight was just vapid, i get the similar feeling when playing Spartan ops too.

Next time give us a making-of DVD, soundtrack, art book etc. Nothing wrong with traditional LE content.

Hell, I'd even take a patch like the one that came with Halo Wars LE over the crap that came with the Halo 4 LE. The thing is damn cool and makes a nice iPod coaster.

Most additions/updates to anything on Xbox Live happen at 2am Pacific.

Oh yea Halo Wars had a nice CE man. Would have loved to some making of content for sure.

I obviously have no regrets about buying the Halo 4 LE though :p

Actually I would only want the de-scope/no flinch option to be in some game modes but I do think they should add the option for that but I think this thread has made that clear enough lol

As for Global Ordinances, I am pretty sure you can already do that with Forge?

That wouldn't work. You can't have people casually playing a few different playlists and have a major mechanic change on them. They would literally just stop playing right there and buy something else. Flinch should have been an option in a beta had they done one. Hell, you could have just had some sort of beta playlist available at launch to test these type of mechanics instead of changing the entire game and saying this is what it is now. deal with it.

And who cares about forge, I want to play match making not customs. Sorry.

Thanks TO1!

>The SpOps weeklies are all Promethean kills

Oh, well, that's probably not good. Well, are there any new environments this time around? I didn't have time to do anything SpOps related this morning.

Yeah one of them was able to take sprint out, I downloaded it and made it BR loadout with Halo 2 based speed.

I think it's safe to say that you shouldn't keep that in your fileshare, but, y'know, if you could pass that around through customs on the DL...

I don't think you understood that last part, you can disable the global ordnance and put in weapons on the map....

when was this added today? does it have radar?

yep, with radar, with AAs (I can live with that), but no personal ordnance bullcrap :)

I've noticed if you become your teams king early on there's a high chance you'll stay king for the rest of the game.

kings bounty maxes out at 25 so not as bad as ffa regicide.

don't really care for all this king business but like I said for now it's the closest thing to what could be called team slayer

So let me get this straight.

A modder manipulating the already released game was able to disable sprint.

smh 343. I gave them the benefit of the doubt regarding the custom options, by assuming they were just so swamped with other shit the custom options were below other priorities.

But now it seems leaving them out was intentional. Halo has always held its customization options as a point of pride.

Yeah, still seems crazy. I've played more than the average player probably and am at 60. That's with double XP. I do wonder if they'll add more ranks later on though.

Spending 7.5 days playing the past month is essentially 25% of that entire time; if the guy has work and sleeps 8 hours, that's a whopping 75% of his waking and leisure time dedicated to playing Halo 4.

I do think that is one thing 343 should have concentrated on. One of the core reasons I play Halo as much as I do is because it gives you a lot of options and freedom....not so much in Halo 4.

1. You can sell Specializations access as a LE bonus. (A ridiculous idea. I feel like the LE offerings were announced and then every annoucement after that devalued the LE. "Oh, btw you can buy the Map Pass separate at a discounted price. And we're selling FUD on blu-ray. Oh, and you can still get the specializations if you just play in the first two weeks." The Infinity briefing packet was cool, but not worth the premium.)

2. Just when the casual players start to move on to other games, you unlock another specialization and flood the usual gaming news sites with a manufactured story. "We've raised the level cap to 80! Come back and play!"

I can't think of anything but marketing reasons... it can't be a balance thing or they wouldn't let LE owners bypass it. (Seriously, preventing standard edition users from unlocking Stability is insane.) Specializations are a neat idea in theory (picking the order you unlock stuff in is nice), but the execution has just been confusing. I still see players convinced that each specialization gives you a passive bonus (instead of another perk to choose from) and I can't blame them because the in-game description does nothing to tell them otherwise.
Agree. I guess I was implicitly saying, I didn't see any reason other than marketing. I suspect they were looking for ways to add value to the LE, and given the emphasis on digital content, it sounds like something that would have emerged from marketing discussions. As you said, if it were a balance thing, 343 would have not granted early access to so many and created a schism in the player base purely for marketing purposes.

I wish I had more confidence in that last sentence than I do. :(

It seems to me that if 343 wanted to meter or throttle player progression so a relative handful of players didn't blast through and get the specializations early, the way to do that is by limiting XP accumulation. And there we again have mixed messages: Double XP Dew! Also, daily XP cap.

Sort of like, only two specializations unlocked at launch! Unless you buy the game early (in the US) or the LE.

It's a needlessly convoluted and self-conflicting setup. The game and community has not been well served by it.

Spartan Ops is self-aware (line from chapter 2 of this week's episode). Roland:
"This whole Spartan Ops thing is pretty darn exciting! Although this mission here, maybe not so much."
And having just completed that mission: accurate.

I'm really enjoying Roland's lines in general. He's almost like satire poking fun at the rest of the writing.

Sprint as a normal ability is one of my favorite additions to Halo 4. Part of what turned me off to Reach was that I couldn't have Sprint and Jetpack at the same time.

I tried playing a few Reach games a few days ago and I felt like a disabled person because I either couldn't move fast enough or I didn't have that verticality that I'm so used to.

Despite feeling like ODST is the better Firefight experience of the two, I do wish they went a little farther with the arcadey survival aspect. Make it a single life, with no additional lives added. Make the initial ramp smaller so that I feel like I'm always concerned with my well being, instead of having it gradually happen forty minutes in or so. I'd have played it obsessively like that, shorter games but longer time spent playing it overall.

Wind waker is beautiful. never played that game.
I think it's a better game to look at than play. Just gets monotonous sailing everywhere pretty quickly, even wind waker whirlpooling doesn't really alleviate it. Right now I'm starting the third dungeon in TP as the final game of my "play every Zelda game I own" new year's resolution and I just want it to be done already and never touch a 3D Zelda again for as long as I live. Can't stand these games.

It depends on how it's implemented, and how the modders got rid of it. Much like how there were built in gametype parameters that determined if you were an Elite or Spartan in customs but Bungie didn't expose it because it was apparently delicate to set up. If I were to guess, they did it by giving everyone sprint as an "AA" in the engine then hard set it to a dedicated button to activate that AA, so technically you now have the ability to trigger two AAs separately at any time, which could cause issues.

I think a lot of people miss out not experiencing OoT when it was brand new, and a lot of people experiencing Wind Waker as one of their first "Zeldas"

OOT was amazing for its time and it's still my GOAT. I know that's with a heavy dose of nostalgia though.

Wind Waker was a travesty to what it did to Zelda. Fuck fishing for the triforce and fuck what it did to my enjoyment of the franchise.

OOT was the pinnacle of Zelda. It had two worlds, zombies, "mature art" 3d world, I could go on. It's by far my favorite in the series right next to LTTP.

So I just completed episode 5, but I didn't get the achievement for doing so. What's up with that?

Also, I think I also heard the most stupid line in SpOps yet:
I guess the Covenant doesn't want its spaceship blown up

No fucking shit, Sherlock...

Team regicide is fun. Really fun. And I hate normal regicide.

Oh right! I'm going to have to get on and try it at some point.

Still want to play some more of those Competitive settings. Cyren if you're on playing those and see me on, give me an invite.

After buying an Xbox 360 again recently and getting Halo 4 free with it. I'm really liking the game, however I'm really hating the changes made to Capture the Flag and the netcode.

I'm tempted to possibly pick up Halo: Anniversary in the future as I'd really love to play the game's single player again and possibly the online (if it's still populated, this would be amazing) Is it worth even touching Reach's online or should I go to 3 instead? I've only played Reach twice at my friend's house so I have no clue how the game is these days.

Just a warning - halo reach still sucks and halo anniversary is just halo reach multiplayer.

It's definitely a game of its time. I only got to around the start of being adult Link when I was playing it as a kid, and even getting to Hyrule Field I just had my imagination fill in all sorts of gaps and it felt like a huge open magical adventure.

Playing through it entirely for the first time in earnest this year however, it was just full of annoyance. Especially as a third person game where you can't fully control the camera. There were also just some aspects of it that got grating after a while like the slow movement speed, the slow menu speed, the constant ocarina use. Majora's Mask fixed a lot of that and while it has its own annoyances, easily ends up being my favourite 3D Zelda of the bunch.

agree with everything OoT and LttP are the best and fantastic while I hate windwaker and almost all of the "chibi" Link games.

SS and TP have my favourite Link design though

Hey man, cut them some slack, they're a new indie studio with lots of time restraints and limited capital.

Seriously though, I like sprint, but this just proves how distracted 343 was by other crap like regicide and jip to fix simple things like "options".

Your Xp earned doesn't apply until you enlist in a new specialization. That has been my experience so far. Meaning it is wasted...

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but this is what I've seen.

Poster in the gaming side OT that hit 70 confirmed that it seems to just dump the XP and you just lose it until 343 opens them up.

I never played any zelda past oot really. Am I missing out? WW looked strange and I was already over nintendo consoles by that time.

Link to the Past is still the best one ever. I wish Nintendo would just make a mildly isometric version of that, with the same mechanics, or go full Skyrim (although really I'm thinking Red Dead Redemption).

I would rather a brand new 3DS Zelda. Either 2D or 3D.

Have you played the Oracle games for GBC? They're godly.
No, I will day 1 them when they come out for 3ds VC.
I did beat Link's awakening recently though. good game.

Link to the past in the ocarina engine. Mother of god.

Weekly campaign challenge protip:

Reclaimer has one of the most tedious encounters in solo Legendary. During your time with the mammoth, you will be directed to an abandoned gauss hog. This encounter throws dozens of ghosts and several wraiths at you and if you're low on ammo by that point, it can be one frustrating situation. Without a driver to dodge attacks, the gauss hog isn't much help because you can only get a few shots off before being blown to bits.

My advice is to drive the hog into the mammoth's hull and shoot the Covie vehicles as they come into view through the mammonth's doorway. You'll be shielded from wraith blasts and most ghost plasma and you can easily pick off whatever the game throws at you until it's over :)

I expected a 3DS ALTTP release by now. Missed opportunity IMO. I was also hoping for a 3D Classics release of the original LOZ, with optional isometric view. Oh well.

Majora's Mask is worth checking out, but otherwise you're not missing a damn thing.

As a 3D Zelda? nothx. I think LttP excels in large part due to its 2D snappiness, no constant weird camera angles and readjusting, no taking away player control to show you something, I mean if you wanted it to still be the same top down perspective with the same 2D playstyle with a 3D cosmetic makeover, that would be coo'. Playing like a 3D Zelda would ruin LttP though, imo.

The specializations aren't open? What was that code everyone got in email?

Are people running into that level 70 barrier already? I used all the double XP I could and am just about to hit 60.

Ah. Well I'd think 343 will open them soon. I can't imagine a ton of people are at 70 yet, but people will be getting close. I wonder if they will add more levels later on. Seems like we'll hit top rank much faster than in Reach.

Much faster? The length of the progression systems in Reach and Halo 4 are in different universes. After 2 years of Reach, I got through roughly a third of the progression system based on credits. After a week of Halo 4, I calculated that I would finish the progression system in 3 months. I'm probably off that pace a bit now, but the progression system is still very short in this game. I assume they plan to add more down the road because I can't think of a major MP game in recent history with a progression system nearly this short.

Why don't you get into the driver seat and let the Marine who is standing right next to the thing when you enter the area operate the turret? The AI won't get in immediately for whatever reason, but as soon as Phantoms start dropping in he'll hop on, and until then there's a rock right there to shield you if you drive forward a little bit. That's what I've done for each of my runs, it hasn't failed me yet.

Link to the past rehaul but keeping the gamestyle... count me in day one

Did anyone here play Graal? My friends were obsessed with that game back in the day. It was basically LttP online (MMO style).

I just enjoyed building levels and scripting weapons offline, but maybe that's because I only had dialup.
