ok i'll stop saying stuff about TR now. I might be watching but I'd rather watch this british dude play RE knife only and I got my own speed running to do.

Yeah I've seen enough as well. All I can say is that the marketing department failed tremendously with this game. All the bloated PR and obnoxiously narrated videos did a disservice to this game. I suppose they were going for a Rockstar-kind of documentary, but all it did was focus on the wrong things.

The game looks good, level design is solid, there seems to be a decent balance between exploration and combat. Combat itself looks mediocre at best and the AI seems to be braindead [unless the guy I was watching played on easy]. Lara doesn't nearly grunt and moan as much as the trailers implied.

First impressions based on watching a livestream are more positive than I would've expected.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing. That's one of my favourite Lara moments, actually. I'm just saying that she's always been a cold-hearted bitch which is why I don't understand people saying things like Lara isn't a mass murderer, etc.

The difference though is that in the old games there was always a subtle comical tone in the games. You weren't supposed to take them too seriously at least up until AoD.Lara was the epitome of the Bad Girl trend that was hot in the 90's and that was mainly a character who shooted first and asked questions later. She was a trained, badass adventurer that was unapologetic of her actions.

In this reboot however Crystal wants to present us a realistic, grounded, frail, untrained young girl that somehow becomes a strong indepented woman in the course of the game.So it's only natural for us to question her progression and her actions more than we did for the old version of Lara, and from what people have seen so far this progression is simply not convincing enough.

live streaming always beats out PR produced garbage.

I am feeling a lot more positive towards the game. I feel good yes I do.

The guy stopped streaming anyway.

None the less island seems good.

Why a joke? Seems difficult to me. Yeah it's director's cut.

All the bosses are way too easy to beat with the knife. Tyrant goes down really quickly, and the redone yawn battle is basically designed for the easiest knife run possible. You also get access to knife dodges and some of the layouts are easier than they were in the original so that the juking is easier. All the new stuff they added like crimson heads and Lisa are easy to run past too. It's a little harder if you do it without defensive weapons since you actually have to fight trevor in the crypt. When I ever do speed runs I essentially do a knife run since it frees up the inventory and I only break out a firearm for a couple of enemies to make things go quicker.

Really? The game is looking exactly like the PR has been portraying it so far. Hell, he dropped off a platform and the game pulled to him a ledge he had no business reaching. The combat has easily been the bulk of the footage and the games doesn't look better for it at all.

Yay! Preach it :D.

There seems to be some open spaces, but like in a Devil May Cry (Scene-Corridor-Square-Corridor-Scene). Nothing similar to the intrincated structures of the past games.

And I agree with those who don't like the tone. What was the problem with the romantic stories of an extraordinary archeologist? All this gritty stuff is cheap explotation.

Sure. I'll probably speed run it over spring break so I'll write down some notes. I can't stream or record unfortunately. Funny thing is my fastest time was actually with all the extra stuff on like invisible zombies/forest/real survival. Are you more interested in Chris or Jill? I do most of mine with Chris.

I haven't touched the TR series since TR2, which I honestly didn't like at all. None of the subsequent games seemed to catch my attention, but this one really does.

I do hope its not 100% linear 'hallway fighting' but I am really impressed with what I've seen so far both gameplay and graphics wise. The violence part doesn't bother me at all, and I probably won't even bother with the multiplayer side.

I seem to be losing my taste for video games in terms of the # of games that I have a desire to even attempt to play, but this one for whatever reason has landed on my short list. Bring on the |OT| :)

goddamn

Well i'm a super noob in fact I haven't even beat REmake recently, just years ago. And only a few times.

I've been playing DC lately and again i'm a super noob as seeing my PB for Jill was 2:40, beginner.

If I did anything on REmake I'd need to practice

well I can help with most of them. RE0 is probably my weakest as I haven't really sat down and gone through it. It's a shame since it's one of my favorite ones to play. My friend has done more work with DC since he has a time under 40. I know someone managed under 30 on the DS but I don't know if that is possible on any of the PSX versions.

You're on your own with CV though. I can't stand playing that one.

This is a good thing! Didn't catch the stream/hadn't watched the Monastery escape, but this is what I was most worried about (even though I wish there was much less emphasis on combat).

Their approach to videos highlighting certain aspects of the game really felt problematic. I hope the open world traversal/exploration is better than the things we've seen (combat, fast travel, QTEs, etc.)

As a disclaimer - I only saw about 20 to 30 minutes of it before I decided I had seen enough. Please do not take my impressions into account if you're thinking of getting this game since I have no idea how the rest of the game plays out.

well my friend mixedherb did hold the WR for DC at some point, not sure if it was for knife only or what.

I think I only want to do REmake if possible. DC is fine and all but i'm a bit tired of it.

Got to play about an hour of this today. Got past the e3 stuff and got into the beginning of the story. Super let down by what it the game actually is.
:(

They should have called this Tomb Faller. All Lara does is fall off of stuff and scream. I hope this game open up more later on. It feels really linear and boring so far. Especially since I just beat Hitman Absolution and DmC.

Listen no worries- I haven't seen much footage outside of the developer diaries, and had pre-ordered the game on Steam way back when in support of the Tomb Raider franchise.

I want the game to be good. I really do- I hope that adventures with Lara can continue after this game. I think TRII and Legend are up there with some of my favorite games ever. It looks completely different, and probably will play completely different.

I always wanted an open world TR game. If exploration is good, I'll suffer through combat to enjoy it.

Anywhere I can take a look at these records? The only place that keeps popping up is speeddemos archive and all those times are really slow.

Linear a la Arkham Asylum or FFXIII?

Well...
Lara loves coincidentally tripping on things and walking off cliffs I guess.

my bad I guess it was for REmake

http://youtu.be/0l7t7dWG56E

jill real survival single segment best ending.

1:48? Seems a tad slow to me. Jill's game should be a little longer and the best ending adds to it but a full hour more than my Chris run seems a bit much.

I'll have to a give it look over the break. I haven't actually done a Jill-good ending run in awhile so it might be right.

I'm not watching the stream. It never looked like a sandbox game though.

I expected it to be non-sandbox open world a la Arkham when you could backtrack and stuff but still quite linear. It being LoS-esque means it's chapter/locations based.

Geez I can't even imagine going under 2 hours. But I bet if I play it enough I can maybe get good at it.

It sorta is but the guy playing it didn't go into exploration mode and check out everything, just saw him fight a few guys off.

It reminded me a bit of far cry 2 , everytime he fast traveled somewhere there was guards stationed around at their own place that he had to fight off before moving around and exploring the area.

People who are watching the gameplay streams, can someone tell me if Lara can actually fall off ledges if you just walk her off one?

Someone else told me that she will not do that. Seems absolutely ridiculous that you cant even fall to your death if you walk of a ledge.

Does she do an autograb or something?

It just takes a lot of practice and some planning. You put in the effort and the times will come. It's just a matter of changing your approach really.

I saw him walk of a ledge and auto grab another ledge well out of his reach anyway. The grab range looks really nutty from what I saw in the stream.

I think the quote you referring to was about scripted areas where they just don't allow to walk off ledges period in order to maintain the credibility of the narrative. Both scenarios are BS regardless.

she could fall off . I guess in cinematic driven areas she can't but when he was free roaming so to speak she can. no cliff sides or anything. I didn't see him fall when he took big jumps to the white ledges on the other side of the building.

Plus with detective mode survival instinct it's not hard at all to miss jumping points.

Yeah. I don't think I could do it for DC, it seemed far far harder. I couldn't even get far in chris's scenario recently on DC cause I kept screwing up.

I like how some will come into a review thread to tell everyone how they don't care how good or bad the reviews are, they're still not buying it. LMFAO

Then why are you in the thread? Sounds like you secretly have a mild interest in this game and are(for whatever reason)ashamed to admit it.

As a huge fan of the series (and of the Uncharted games) I was going to preorder this game a few weeks back for PC as they appeared to mesh the two together. Then I played Aliens CM that I fell for the hype. I promised myself then (and I am sticking by it) I will wait for the reviews before buying this.

If I like what I hear in the reviews I will be preordering this bad boy Monday night!

And the review embargo is up Tomorrow? (7AM Pacific, apparently)

This feels exciting. We're on the brink of a very divided war!

Oh, bitch bitch bitch.
Well geez if IGN said so it must be true. Tricky's enthusiastic defense of Tomb Raider now validated! You can stop hating now. Pack it up.
