Lots of salty people in here, WTF did you expect if they explicitly said everything Fall + onwards was going to be announced in the pre-E3 ND? Did you expect them to surrender and tell you all of their secrets today? pfffft, I say.

Why is New Super Lugi U available stand alone retail but dlc only as download.

This is another example of dumb Nintendo being dumb.

I don't believe they said the stand alone would be retail only, only that a retail release was planned. There is a big difference between those two things.

Oh wait, did you mean it's dumb that DLC is only a download? You do know DLC means DownLoadable Content right?

(edit) Your addition adds a little... but still makes no sense... I don't want to pay $30 for a fully stand alone version :p I like the $20 price AND the early access afforded to the people that bought NSMBU, like me.

This is another example of dumb Nintendo being dumb. There is no reason to make this more complicated. Just make it a standalone game all around. Done.

Probably because the DLC edition will be cheaper than the stand-alone one.

The only news that can be considered big here is the Yakuza 1 and 2 HD coming to WiiU. Even then the series future titles might not be put on WiiU if the edition bombs which I have nod doubt it will as most the Yakuza fan base is on PS.

IMO the Sonic deal was bigger than the Yakuza announcement which I don't really expect to do much since those games were re-released on the PS3 last year.

I thought it was pretty disappointing in just how few games they actually had for the summer. It wouldn't have been so bad if they highlighted the few 3rd party titles the system was getting as well. Seeing more on Splinter Cell would have helped a bit. I'm looking forward to Pikmin 3 but they showed the game way too long, just to fill up time.

No I mean that you can only buy it as a stand alone game via retail. They explicitly said the download version is only as DLC for Super Mario U.

They unecessarily complicate things and alienate potential customers. It's a stand alone game in one form and DLC in another. That is dumb and unnecessarily convoluted.

Im mildly pleased. There was no Megaton but that was pretty far fetched to begin with. The Sonic announcement tickles me a bit since I havent played one since the 16bit era. A steady trickle of awesome, complemented by a few thirdparty releases and hopefully filled out by great indies will keep me busy till this fall/winter when the heavier stuff is bound to hit along with ps4.

Seriously they beat my expectations by saying Pikmin 3 won't have a true timer. Seeing as I truly dislike timer based games, this is a megaton for me. Maybe I will be buying Pikmin after all...

And anyone who expected more should wait a week or two. If I were Nintendo I'd hold all the bombs secret. I'm just moderately happy they gave is some release dates.

I'm having trouble following you. What version would you like to buy if it was available?

I see they are again reiterating that we will see Mario. Is that at E3 or the next Nintendo Direct?

These things are starting to get depressing.

What Megatons? I must have missed something.

Dude, can't you read? Next Direct is around E3. E3 is were they allow games to be played by the media.

I thought it had been established a long time ago that certain people lack basic reading comprehension.

Also, Cyberheater needs to have a little bit of a lie down or something. Seems like a very angry man.

Didn't the Wii have a couple of exclusive Sonic games? Not exactly sure how a couple more is a "megaton". More of a "meh-gaton"

for a little while, sega's been trying to sell the franchise outside of nintendo consoles (and the ps2) to little avail. sonic 06 did pretty well, but that may owe more to its launch game status. if they're going to give up that fight, it suggests they might put more effort behind the upcoming exclusive game. i think people are interested in what seems to be a closer relationship between nintendo and sega, too.

it's been two years since generations and three years since colors. whatever lost worlds will be, sonic team will have had a while to flesh it out.

plus, more reasons to only own a wii u only helps the value of the console. i know sonic games are considered awful these days, but generations and colors were pretty rad.

they aren't complicating anything. the approach they chose is the least complicated one.

You can buy the DLC if you have NSMBU, so it prevents people from buying it and saying "why can't I play this?". Or you can buy the standalone retail version... which is standalone so it doesn't matter.

Do we know the retail version will be physical-only? I would expect that when the retail version is out, you will be able to get it from the eShop at $29.99 without having to own NSMBU.

Its amazing how a long string of horrid games can hurt an old brand like sonic, the last two games were pretty good with Racing being amazing. Here is hoping that this one put them back on the map again.

New Super Luigi U will be available June 20 for $20 and as a retail title for $30 in August, Nabbit will be a playable character in multiplayer. The Wonder 101 is being released September 15 and it got a new logo, story details on Pikmin 3 and the names of the new characters(Alph, Brittany, and Charlie), There is an third unannounced Sonic game coming exclusively to Nintendo systems. Iwata reconfirmed an E3 ND. There will be E3 demos available to the public at Best Buy during E3.

What are you talking about.

Less complicated:

Here is this new game. Buy it online or in stores. Same game.

Not. Here is this new game. Well, ok, not an entirely new game. It's a new game if you buy it in stores and it's DLC if you buy it online. Cause if you buy it online you, it is DLC for another game that you have to own and boot it up through that. If you buy it in stores, it is a stand alone game and does not require that other game and costs more money.

The direct was a bit more than I expected with the Sega deal being announced, but other thanthat it was on par. They should at least give up a Pikmin 3 demo during E3 on the eshop.

Nintendo is publishing and distributing them in the EU. Generations did worse than Colors. Sonic Racing did best on Wii U. Sonic is done on everything but Nintendo hardware.

Thanks a bunch for this.

Making the digital version cheaper = Great! I had a bit of an argument about this a while back here too. Good to see Nintendo doing this

Making E3 demos available at BestBuy is good too. Chance for people to experience it and for other folk in the store to see them being played

Well what's stopping them from announcing the release dates without a ND?

The desire for the announcement to be more than a news tidbit?

Maybe Nintendo really likes the response they get from Nintendo Directs?

Are you one of those people who thinks the consumer is dumb?

You're really stretching the definition of complex here. DLC isn't some newfangled thing people don't understand. The only way they might cause confusion here is if the add-on version of the game were somehow sold at retail. That would be dumb and make no sense.

You know a Nintendo Direct didn't give much when you come online next morning and don't see a new thread for its announcements...

Well, I didn't expect much given what they were saying anyway.

Okay, I need this new avatar SNES Only For-ized. ;)

Something I've just thought of - if Nintendo can put E3 demoes in Best Buy stores, why not make them available to download from the eShop?

I'm from UK, how will I check out those games?

This was largely a filler direct, meant to clean out the cobwebs before whatever they're doing for E3. We finally get release dates for the known titles, the bit about Sonic exclusivity was the lone megaton. I'd imagine that's being saved for E3ND. (Just a guess here- but I'd bet that's going to come the Sunday before e3, just like the MiiVerse/ProController ND came last year)

People who own NSMBU get a slight discount by going digital. People who don't can get the retail Luigi for less than retail NSMBU price and if they like Luigi, they may go out and purchase NSMBU.

It's more the fact that if you don't own NSMBU, here is a way to partake in the Year of Luigi celebrations.

The bring E3 to Best Buy thing is the most interesting to me. If you can get the same hands on at 100 Best Buy as those going to E3 that week it would be worth a road trip to try these games out

The look on Reggie face was depressing, it was the look of a man worried and unhappy. The kicking ass and taking names has been suppressed and defeated. He showed no excitement for things to come. They need to pull out all the Pikmin with a plan for global domination.

I'm a little worried because my local Best Buy's Wii U demo station has never worked properly. It's weird. The TV it's hooked up to just perpetually plays some video clip reel, regardless of what you do on the GamePad.

Hopefully they fix this by E3, 'cause the next closest Best Buy is pretty out of the way.
