because they are going to make plenty of money off of it, the budget doesn't seem to have been very steep, and making this doesn't even come close to genuinely eroding the critical goodwill Netflix has gained.

Sandler alone is 20+ million. His movies are always grossly over budget due to his cost plus tagging along all his friends which this seems to be doing as well. We'll most likely never get full figures but it wouldn't surprise me if Netflix gained nothing from this deal.

Ha, I was just about to ask about this. I was surprised how good that looked, production-wise. And how packed it is, talent-wise.

I don't see any reason to doubt Netflix knows what it's doing at this point. They know exactly what their audience is watching and have the best audience metrics in the world. They know how many people are watching a movie, how many are watching the whole movie, and how many turn it off after 10 minutes.

If anyone wants to place blame, place it on all the people watching Adam Sandler movies on Netflix.

Possibly. How much does a Netflix exclusive show/movie make compared to what it would get on normal TV/the Box Office?

Also did you like A Million Ways to Die in the Old West? Which is what I immediately thought of when I read this. Another western comedy. Would you rather have Seth McFarlane making modern pop culture references or Adam Sandler making fart jokes?

Huh, I guess I'm wrong. They seem to average about $80 million budget, which is high for comedies like these.

But to answer the original question, they make ~$200 million which is why Netflix funded this.
