Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
There's also a good chance that the 2nd game will be way better than the first and will fix all the issues the first one currently has.

And this thread is making my brain hurt this morning. Like overly so: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=752564&page=12

Soooo like Assassin's Creed.
First game was blah, second game was amazing.
Then it meandered with more Ezio, then the third game really sucked, then the fourth game sort of redeemed itself, and now we have two this year because "Fuck you, give us money".

... I don't even know where I was going with this.

We are really early in the generation. There's bound to be some growing pains and just plain missteps. Myself, I'm content playing MLB The Show 14 until Destiny comes out.

I need to know if it has to run through uPlay (which ruined SC:B for me), and how bad the port is (I can't get a constant 60FPS at 1080P unless I drop EVERYTHING to minimum, which makes it look like a PS2 game). It's amazing how bad they are at optimizing PC games.

That's basically every modern Ubi series besides...Prince of Persia, where the first game was good and the second one sucked.

It applies to...Splinter Cell, Assassin's Creed, Red Steel...

Assassin's Creed reference was what I was going for there. And yeah...I'm not looking forward to a release every 1-2 years from Ubi that ends up being them milking an IP till it's way beyond death. I'll be waiting on this one Ubi. Thanks.

Those are fighting words. SC1 was worlds better than SC2 in every regard except the new multiplayer for SC2

So Funi just picked up another Wantanabe show, Terror in Resonance. Yoko Kanno's doing the music too. Think this is a possible Toonami pickup?

Edited to fix link.

Glad to hear that Funi has picked this up. I'm actually excited about his new show. Wish Kids on the Slope had gotten more fanfare over here.

That's not what I wanted. That's not what I wanted at all.

Just finished the Momocon panel. Here are some notes:

DBZ: They have wanted to air DBZ Kai since day one. They had to wait until the rights were available.

Movies: DeMarco loves Redline and would love to show it. The right situation needs to present itself (aka. be cheap). In general, showing movies is tricky because it's using money to pay for one time use where that money could instead be used to acquire an entire show.

Potential of Future Shows:
  • Lupin: DeMarco likes Lupin but they have nothing to announce.
  • Cyborg 009: Don't expect it in the future. It's not on the hotlist.
  • Oban Star Racers: They didn't comment but noted there was interest from the attendee.
  • Kill la Kill: DeMarko likes the show but the nudity might be a problem. "We're looking at it, I know... I don't know." He gave a wince that didn't inspire confidence. :/
  • Sailor Moon Crystal: They are VERY aware of the fan demand for this show. Talked about getting inundated by requests every ten seconds for a solid week from people on Tumblr. They are looking at it. Big on their radar from fan demand alone. "No announcement… at the moment."
  • Fairy Tale: No current plans. They like it but no announcement.
  • Death Note: Dana (Sara) likes that show. Possibility, yes. Direct plans, no.
  • Transformers: Have not gotten a lot a lot of requests and chances are very slim they will ever show it now that Hasbro has their own channel.
How they pick shows:
  1. DeMarco, Gill, and Ken Manning at Adult Swim look at how much money they have available. That's the number one thing.
  2. Research what they personally are excited about and mostly what the fans are talking about. DeMarco said that he can confirm that people online have told him about shows and that has led them into looking into those shows. Those suggestions matter. When you say things on Tumblr or tweet him on Twitter suggestions for shows they listen and take those suggestions into consideration.
  3. What do the partners have to show. Partners will sometimes come to them and suggest shows they'd like to see on Toonami.
  4. Think about what shows they have. What shows are like that? What shows are different? Do the shows they're thinking about "feel like Toonami"?
Censorship: They share the channel with Cartoon Network. Because of this, they have stricter rules regarding nudity and language than a channel like Comedy Central (who DeMarco says pushes the envelope). This is mostly because of advertisers. So don't expect much language or nudity in the future unless (he jokes) there were ever a 24 hour Toonami channel. They liked Black Lagoon enough to just air it with all the bleeps rather than skip the show entirely because of the language.

Toonami Archives: They use YouTube to find old Toonami footage. They love all that stuff being out there. They also mentioned Toonami Arsenal.

Air times: Toonami will likely never go back to the early afternoon airing because it's an Adult Swim thing now and no longer a Cartoon Network thing. Also, they likely can't pull ratings like Family Guy on other nights of the week. However, if the block does expand Gill said it'll be in duration on Saturdays. DeMarco joked "20 hours of Toonami!"

Attack on Titan: If season one does well, they want to air season two. DeMarco said this very matter-of-factly as if it was a pretty certain conclusion.

Tom Action Figure: DeMarco would LOVE to sell Tom action figures but it's not likely to happen right now.

I've been saying KLK isn't coming to toonami. Besides being an overhyped disappointment, it also has too much fanservice to air, unless they gave it a super late slot/heavily edited some stuff.

EDIT: I think it's safe to assume Sailor Moon is coming at some point. That has me excited.

That's true amongst AnimeGaf but is that true amongst the larger anime-watching population? I don't think Toonami has any qualms running shows GAF may not like if they are popular enough overall (see Sword Art Online or even Attack on Titan). The second point seems like a bigger issue but I have no idea what does and doesn't fly especially given the stuff Toonami has already aired *shrug*

Don't let anime gaf paint a negative picture as as a whole a lot of people really enjoyed Kill La Kill. The nudity is a bigger problem for getting it to air on US tv but I think they'll find a way to make it happen, even if they have to work with Aniplex to go crazy with black underwear on everyone

Also I do agree on your sailor moon point. The original uncut with the new dub and Crystal will probably both come to Toonami in the next year or so, just gotta work out a deal with Viz

If we have to go back to those dark days I just say fuck it and skip the show. That's a compromise that will leave nobody happy. There are other fish in the sea.

The only thing that might keep Kill la Kill from coming to the block is the groping, not the partial nudity.

I agree with this. But then SAO aired so I have fucking clue how shit works over in TV land :/

There are like three, maybe four, brief scenes like that and they could probably be reedited to have cutaways or stills during those shots. All those scenes have dialog so it could work.

The nudity (even as vague as it is) is everywhere though so you can't really skip those shots unless you do like Bass says and paint in underwear or use lens flares.

They technically could get around the scenes in question through cropping the image. I know they did that for Bebop for one scene in particular. That at least gets rid of the horrible pasted on black bikini. Did they do that for SAO as well or leave that uncut from the original?

Quality is subjective but I was only speaking for myself when I said KLK is an overhyped disappointment. Between the OT and people coming in here hyping it up to absurd levels, I expected it to be something revolutionary. Instead I was treated to a generic schoolyard rumble trope and cringe worthy fanservice. I dropped KLK after 7 or 8 episodes and haven't had any desire to go back to it.

I'm not pulling a Shard and saying they shouldn't air the show because I don't like it. Based off of what DeMarco said at momocon, it seems like the show has questionable content that would make it difficult to air.

It's not that big a deal. Don't a lot anime shows use bright lens flairs anyway? It's not that different.

Gives all the fucks
As interesting as seeing the dub & a group watch of KLK would be, the fact of what DeMarco said about not knowing & what they said about censorship doesn't seem like a good combination. If the show has to get censored a great amount, it's just going to annoy people. I don't think most people want to go back to digital bikinis again. Granted, I don't know what would be considered crossing the boundaries of what would be allowed, considering stuff like SAO...but then again, Code Geass had to censor cleavage at one point despite showing no nipples....

& yup, sounds like Sailor Moon might be coming later in the future. It would fit with DBZ Kai, perhaps make it the hour of old shows, new seasons. Would make for good "hey remember when we had these shows? Well now we have the NEW seasons/reboots/whatever of them!" advertising.

With KLK, people were expecting something as deep, if not deeper than what we got with TTGL. On the surface, KLK was a fun show, but you couldn't really dig down because most of the show was surface level. There were hints of depth to the characters and story, but those were rare and bordered on something that needed a lot of knowledge on
Buddhist and Japanese history that a lot of international viewers would no next to nothing about.

I had fun with the show, but a lot of that was just dumb fun.

KLK was very over hyped by some people I'll admit, but I always feel thats someones own fault when they elevate something to a ridiculous height before we see a single episode or clip of real gameplay (see the reactions to watch_dogs).

Honestly I do think they'll find a way to air KLK on Toonami, the show feels like a Toonami show with its crazy over the top action and I think as we see more and more of the dub the requests are going to spill in more and more.

Akira technically shows more in terms of nudity in its one scene then all of KlK does, hence the need for a magically paper to appear and censor it. Don't pull a Shard MCXC KlK will air on the block eventually its a matter of when not if

...I liked KLK.

Generally, though, I go into shows with little to no expectations whatsoever. Helps a bunch.

It's hard to go in with no expectations when you're bombarded with 'OMG THIS WEEKS KLK WAS AMAZING' and 'U GUYS GOTTA WATCH KLK, SOOOOO HYPE!' in here whenever it gets brought up. I think we all have a tendency to talk up what we enjoy but some people in here took it to a ridiculous level. I think that's one reason why I had such a negative reaction when I finally sat down and watched it.

But yeah, I tend to listen to the regulars here who have similar tastes to me and block out any hype nonsense from others so I don't get burned anymore.

I'm being logical and presenting evidence to show why I don't think KLK is coming; not flying off the handle and letting my dislike for the show cloud my judgement. I literally just quoted the toonami stance on nudity and DeMarco's reservations towards airing the show. Outside of blind faith, you don't really have any compelling facts that point towards a KLK toonami airing. You can argue ifs and buts all day but it's not coming unless they heavily censor the show like I said in my original post.

What makes me want to see KLK on Toonami so much is that the show, like TTGL, is pure, unadulterated hype in concentrated form. It's also really funny and the animation is more outrageous than anything currently airing. Think FLCL levels of camera moves, angles and pacing.

Zonic505 is right that it would make for an epic group watch.

I'd be thrilled for a ToonamiGAF group watch too and am expecting it to come to the block at some point if they can resolve what censor issues they need to overcome.

I wouldn't call it concentrated hype, though a few of the episodes were nothing but. Of course there was no way to keep that feeling or pace in the entire series, which I feel could have been offset with some sort of depth to the characters outside of one or two and the story. That too would have fixed some of the issues with episodes in the first half of the show. Still a fantastic watch, but it does have its flaws that hold the show back from being the next TTGL.

It does fall into that outrageous category a lot of the time. Oh boy does it ever.

Simple solution. Just air KLK at 2 AM, where they can get away with a lot and not have to censor too much.

It would make for a nice replacement for Black Lagoon when it ends.

My comment was to only disagree that the quality of the show has any real bearing on its viability compared to its popularity. You saying it was an overhyped disappointment (which I assumed was you speaking for most of GAF rather than yourself) is a perfectly fine stance but seemed irrelevant to the show's chances because I don't think its the opinion shared by the anime watching community at large (outside GAF). I agreed with your second point - I was only saying I don't have a strong understanding of what they can/can't air just because they've already aired stuff I consider worse than some of the stuff in KLK or stuff I personally probably wouldn't even air if I were in charge :p

I don't want to be overly negative and make it seem like I think KLK is the worst thing I've ever watched. The artstyle pops, Mako is a cool female lead, the
scissor blade
is an interesting weapon, and the animation is good. It's more style over substance though, I think the show is extremely shallow.

KLK wasn't that bad. But it had pacing issues, same could be said for AoT but KLK had problems shifting gears mid season and didn't really "click" until the last 6/7, thankfully the payoff was worth it.

I still think it is questionable to air how it is. No matter what timeslot it would have fallen in, it would need edits imo. Then there is the whole question of is it worth airing a "big" show at such a late time? Lagoon gets away with it because it's been around since 06 but the last thing you want is the big show right now to be pushed to the back end of the block. That's probably why they aren't exactly sure of what to do with KLK, it would need alot of compromises and possibly might not be worth it, especially on the advertiser front.

lol, it's just too much to work with. I mean to those that who watched it I know you remember (it's awkward as hell so how could you not) when
they had 2 or 3 incest scenes where Satuki's mom was groping her cooch, like holding on to it for like 20 seconds and rubbing it and the same happened to ryukko

CN, Adultswim or even the advertisers aren't going to let that shit fly lol

Speaking of KlK, I thought the trailer for the dub was supposed to premiere soon. What gives?

Hm, I thought it was coming at Anime Expo in July

Aniplex of America announced on Monday that it will co-host a Kill la Kill event with Sony Music Entertainment Japan at Anime Expo in Los Angeles. The event will include the first episode of the English dub, a concert by opening theme song performer Eir Aoi, and a talk session with guests of honor. Guests include original story and script writer Kazuki Nakashima, character designer and animation director SUSHIO, producer Yosuke Toba, and voice actresses Ami Koshimizu and Ryoka Yuzuki (Ryuko and Satsuki).

Tickets for the Kill la Kill event will be sold independently of Anime Expo tickets beginning on Thursday. AX Premier Fans will be able to order tickets early beginning on Monday evening.

Anime Expo will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center from July 3-6.

The trailer/English cast will be announced by Aniplex in a YT live stream tomorrow. The Anime Expo event will screen the first episode dubbed.

I don't remember anything quite as explicit as that. Sure you aren't inserting your own interpretation in those scenes?
