Giant Bombcast - 06/28/16

Chuck

Still without luck
I did find it pretty funny that Dan said he was done with the KFC mashed potatoes because he felt sick after eating probably a 3000 calorie side of chesse that he ordered with them.

Jason is a SF5 apologist in the sense that he tends to generally dismiss complaints/issues with things like "but the fighting is so good"

Hes not a total apologist who is blind to the issues but his view of the game and Brad/Dan's are totally different. Jeff is somewhere in the middle but leaning toward Brad and Dan cause he has no time for Capcoms bs.

Most agree with this, except that I think Brad and Dan's opinion on SFV seems to be almost completely based on things they've heard second hand about the game and barely on any actual playtime.

I wish Brad and crew would spoi more, its boring to here them tip toe around topics. If you are so sensitive to spoilers than why even keep up with the latest content on the web?

What kind of argument is this? You realize the Beastcast crew are also "sensitive" to spoilers, considering Vinny's reaction to hearing more about a certain old story last week?

I think I know why Jeff had trouble aiming in RE4. He's colorblind and the red dot is sort of integral to target maybe he couldn't see it?

The kind of argument where I want to hear people who have lived games for a long time and have a lot of intelligent conversations around gaming, rather than listen to said people get on the verge of saying what they want and then bail.

And I don't care if Vinny was sensitive, I would say the same for him. Actually his case is way worse as that book is quite old.

Then it's just the case of giving a standard spoiler warning as a heads up to the listeners of a podcast. Keeping up with the latest content on the web doesn't have anything to do with reading up on a work's story before one even gets the chance to experience it or reading Wikipedia page summaries on a plot before actually experiencing it for oneself.

The Inside talk was so frustrating. Like it was 15 minutes straight of saying nothing but "It's really good guys, it's really good. It's better than Limbo. it's really good."

For God's sake, talk some bloody specifics and let the people who care about spoilers skip past the segment. That discussion said virtually nothing about the game.

I stopped playing the game for the same reason. I found the aiming with the shoulder button then using the movement stick to aim unbearable. Nothing being able to move, even slowly, while aiming was also annoying. I know these are deliberate decisions, but I found them deal breakers.

i don't really mind the private prisons thing. it's not really a thing on most people's radar. he should learn about it tho. hell, i should

"I MAKE SURE THAT THE FIRST TIME PEOPLE KNOW OF FUCKED UP STUFF THE FIRST THING THEY HEAR OUT OF IT IS ME BAGGING ON THEM FOR BEING UNCOOL FOR BEING SO LATE TO THE PARTY!!! I'M HELPING!!!"

Jason is an appoligist in that way like those that wont stop bagging in an attempt to educate someone somewhere who's appologizing: they ain't.

Jeff is giving Jason shit. Brad is Mmmmmmmoba's own. Dan got rekt by Kenny Omega. :p

Jason's SF5 apologies isn't near as bad 'but the shooting feels so good!'

I now understand Destiny and Driveclub players.

To the outsiders who only see bad it looks like apologizing, but on the inside it's griping and complaining. Those outsiders ain't where we are so they're not seeing what we're seeing so voila.

I'm thinking alot of ulterior motives (GOTY contender, "system seller", best in its genre contender, etc) color it. Like, these were to be The One and ppppppppffffffffffffffffffffffffftttt, half-awesome, half-crap.

Like, I've been there before, but it's for half-forgotten/never-known games like Shadowbane or Tales of Graces f, but this is different.

Solution: Play the Wii version. The aiming reticule is always on screen and indepent of the movement stick.

I think Jason's views on SFV are fine tbh. He knows there are major issues, but the thing he is there for works well. I think his insights into that game are good, he defends and criticises it at the same time in the right ways.

I've bitched plenty about how Capcom has handled stuff regardling SFV but giving them shit because the Ibuki+Story mode patch is a day late is kind of silly. May was supposed to be a character then June was the story, every single update has been at the end of the month so with them adding Balrog we're getting him effectively a month early.

Capcom deserves a lot of shit for how SFV has gone, the update being July 1st isn't one of them.

just finished last week's bombcast

still don't know why they're so excited for a game from the killzone team

Because what they've shown at the last two E3s looks insanely fun.

INSIDE came out today. A game like that is all about the discovery and surprise, sort of ruining it for any of their listeners that were planning on buying it if they gave away the puzzles or whatever. A lot of the games they talk about on the bombcast have recently come out. It's pretty reasonable to expect them to not spoil these types of games.

Something like Overwatch...they dove right in. Most games they'll talk about without a care for spoilers as it doesn't matter.

Yeah I agree. For a game like INSIDE, I don't want to hear anything about it besides if it's good or bad. And when the game wasn't even available for most people at the time, it's just not a great time to talk specifics.

It's a shame they do so few spoiler cast's because for me, the time I want them to go in depth is after I've completed most games.

What does "generally dismiss" mean exactly? Jason has said there's a lot wrong with the way the game launched but obviously he believes it's still worth playing. Does he have to take a principled stand and not play a great game due to dumb peripheral issues in order to be perceived as not "dismissing" complaints?

Is anyone who plays the game and thinks the core gameplay is spectacular automatically an apologist?

My parents put off organizing an important family event and I had to book it at Pizza Ranch. It was awful but most everyone loved it. My immediate family were the only ones who wanted dinner later. Everyone else was still full. Hmm.

There are spoiler casts for a reason. They shouldn't be spoiling story heavy games. Wtf...

The Bombcast has its problems but that isn't one of them. If anything Brad was too eager to spoil it.

Did Brad seriously try to grill Dan on what Greenwich mean time meant to laugh at him...

...and then follow it up with not know what mean means?

Lmao

This really annoyed me.

Cici's is great. I've been to many pizza buffets, and Cici's is one of my favorites for two key reasons.

1. One of the main reasons you go to a buffet is to eat a massive amount of food without paying a massive amount of money. There is no better value in the buffet world than Cici's.

2. One of the other main reasons you go to a buffet is to eat a variety of things and not just a lot of one thing. I've been to pizza buffets that were very good, but their pizza style wasn't ideal for buffet-style eating. Cici's has small, thin pieces with minimal excess crust, allowing you to eat more different kinds of pizza in one visit before filling up.

#2 is absolutely the best reason. So much variety, and it's easy to try a zillion different ones.

Because Horizon has shown off new, really incredible shit every time it's on display?

Game looks and apparently plays good, seems like it's worthwhile to be excited about it. I know I am.

Not trying to troll, but I'm also kind of mystified by the Horizon hype.

What exactly does it do that's "new"? Every time I see it I'm kinda perplexed why so many people are excited for it, the gameplay at least doesn't look groundbreaking or anything from what I've seen.

Now I mean, the art direction is fucking amazing I'll give them that, but I feel like I'm looking at a different game when I see the gameplay, it just looks like it sports the same kind of generic open world formula as everything else does these days.

Driveclub fans are probably even worse than Destiny and SF5 fans.

Driveclub is a fucking horrible game but the hardcore fanbase just goes on and on about how good it looks as if that makes up for everything.

Completely false. The people who love DriveCub love how it plays.

Thank you GAF for warning me about potential Insider spoilers on this episode. I'll skip it until I finish the game.

I would definitely prefer that they discuss some current game indepth with spoilers.

So many games that interesting plots/twists/mechanics barely get talked about because have to be careful to not spoil people.

After 2 weeks everyone has forgotten the game and we get a 2 sentence summary of "that was cool" during GOTY discussions and that's it.

There's like one spoilercast a year for specific games they love. It's a bummer to hear them talk about stuff like Inside, firewatch or the witness and they can't talk about what's actually good about them.
