First Xbox One S impressions from a lucky Norwegian

Does that make sense? Just a quick bit of math I did and I am probably wrong, so someone correct me if that is the case:

Say the OG Xbone is x by y by z, thus the volume is xyz. A 40% decrease in volume would then be 0.6*xyz.

If each of the dimensions was reduced by 40%, then the Xbone S would be 0.6*x by 0.6*y by 0.6*z, thus the volume would be 0.216*xyz.
Since it's multiplication, you take the cube root of 0.6
0.6xyz = 0.84x * 0.84y * 0.84z

Edit: I see what you're saying. Yeah, if the graphic designer made each side 40% smaller, the volume would be closer to 78% smaller, which is what I meant by "closer to 80%"

I know!

I mean its not exactly ugly, but its just a fairly anonymous looking white box that resembles a speaker-dock or a mini dehumidifier.
They took note from Braun design. Not the worst inspiration. Actually I like the ventilation cutout. I am just curious about material and build quality. Might look great in reality. Might look cheap.

This. This is what I want. Particularly the ultimate edition of Horizon 3

same there, thats 3 sales right there MS, do it lol. I just hope they would release a 500g bundle with digital copy of forza so I can have the pc version also. Keep the price as low as possible by trading in my old unit.

Disagree. Almost every new TV is 4k and are fairly cheap, you can buy a good 45inch 4k set from £600, all mid tier TVs (£1k upwards) will be 4k as standard. I agree content needs to catch up, but with people using smart TVs and some providers offering 4k like Sky. (4k football matches), streaming services like Netflix, YouTube it's starting to take hold, feels like its following the same pattern as HD back in 2005, widely accepted by all manufacturers with a visible leap in quality at an affordable price. It'll take a few more years but MS want their consoles to be ready early and be known for it, much like PS2 and Blu-ray.

I think what your not understanding is 4k content is still not a standard. I work in broadcast, and we haven't even started looking up bigger microwave's and Transmitters to send 4k, and HDR streams. If anything they may not even be by transmitter, most of it may be bandwidth based as we have fiber up at our transmitter.

It's still going to be 5-10 years before you see CBS having 4k programming. Maybe HDR may come first, but it's still a ways off.

The controller is what has me interested in the slim. I felt like the original Xbone controller was a big step down from the sublime 360 pad, too many sharp edges and it just felt like it was made of cheaper stuff. This new one looks like a return to the 360 aesthetic.

Then you're behind. My provider (KPN) is currently doing pilots for 4K TV.

Happy to hear about the machine still being pretty much silent. For any future console that has to be a plus.

Also the design of this thing has me very interested in what the Scorpio will look like. I'm liking how good the S looks

It looks really nice, I might consider getting it but we got Scorpio in the horizon, and I'm also planning on getting a Neo so yeah, as sexy as this little console looks, I might have to wait :( I really want it though.

Same here! 500gig ultimate edition of forza (digital) and I'll trade in my current Xbone for the S in a flash.

The depends is your provider cable or satellite?
And where do you live?
Big difference if you live in a big city, where fiber, and bigger more up to date transmitters are. There a tv station in Rochester that just started doing HD for their news room.
And are those pilots going to a dvr? Not the same as what I'm talking about as in using a transmitter to send out the signal for over the air, and cable providers live.
So far sports is the only thing that is getting live 4k broadcast and that is coming from larger stations, or directly from CBS themselves.

Wired article from Last year about live syndication for 4k.
I don't think you and I are thinking the same thing in terms of how it's delivered.

I'm talking literally live off air programming.

And it is a very significant size reduction.
The only people who think it's not small enough are those who are comparing with their PS4.

It's true, though. I also expected that Xbone Slim would be smaller than PS4, but isn't. I expect next PS4 Slim to be in size like Wii U or Wii.

Agree. Poster I referred to only said talking about size wouldn't be suitable.
The original One was an ugly giant brick. The S has a good size now, the size a normal console should have. something of the size of a Wii would have been ridiculous for Xbox. Also it's good that the powerbrick is gone.
The 40% stuff with the image will stay around here as meme, but that's only the fault of MS PR trying once again to play the smart ones. it's not the console's fault.

Do the new controllers have the grip at the back like the current lunar controller does...anyone know?

I've watched the unboxing but don't speak the language :). And I couldn't tell...

It's via fibre to a setup box and I live in the Netherlands in a small city. The vast majority of our connections are via cable and fibre is quickly being installed across the country. Satellite is effectively only used to receive channels from other countries and on camping spots.

Those pilots use a setup box compatible with a 4K60hz HDR signal and Dolby Digital Plus sound. I'm not in the pilot group but from what I've heard is that Sporza ((Live)sports) and Funbox (varied content) are included in the 4K pilot.

Apologies, it's indeed not exactly the same as what you're talking about.

And what the hell he should tell to everyone? He said it couldn't be more simple and understandable to everyone, it's the same SoC, it's the same APU, there is no difference. As someone said in other thread : "MS won't talked about it" LOL. What, there is some NDA? Smgh.

Like you said yesterday : "Stop acting so desparate"

You should stop acting like there is some mistically boost in FLOPS!

You're coming off a bit desperate in this thread...I haven't seen anyone claim some boost in "FLOPS!". Relax.

Gotcha that makes sense. You made my heart jump a beat lol. Because we go to NAB each year and 4k stuff is like not even a thing for some manufacturers who make switchers, routers.

Try the other thread.

This thread? Pretty sure most people were just saying that if there is a different APU that it would just lead to the OS running smoother - which has happened in the past with improved versions of systems. I'm not sure why that would be crazy? I don't see anyone saying it would be used for gaming purposes.

It's OK, my friend - the PS4's title as being more powerful vs. the XB1 in games is safe.

Yeah with Neo having mandatory modes for games after October there isn't going to be any challenge in that match. Relax.

I'm pretty sure that there are members in thread who claimed there is a performance boost for several hundred GFLOPS. You should read better. Instead making fun of me, you should try to make fun of them.

Don't be so hung up on that..... you know sites like DF are going to reveal things once and for all, the box is coming out next week

Ok, then your battle is in that thread warrior, stop shitting up this thread as no one mentioned it (except for you) in this thread.

Oh, wait.....I forgot who I was talking too..........

I can't wait for a teardown and full testing of OS and BC games. Just finished trading in the fatty and got the S pre-ordered. Need me some more impressions and articles to pass the time.

That is what I am eager to read about and also pics of the menu where you select 4k res and if.you have hDr etc

I'm kind of surprised that no one in the media has an early released version to test and give reviews. I know if the 4k UHD Blu-ray playback blows, it's not for me.

I don't want to know the Neo price in Canada, or anything new, really

Canada should start using Zimbabwean dollars.

I would much prefer black but the lack of a Kinect port is what's really causing me to wait. I actually use voice commands from time to time so I guess I'm waiting until the adapter is released at the very least.

Isn't there an adapter you can get for free if you supply the serial#s to MS?

I thought I read a thread here that stated the adapter wasn't actually going to be available for a month or more after the S ships?

I checked our dollar trend graph yesterday when talking to a friend about game prices, and I realized that we could have gotten even worse since our dollar dipped below 70 cents US a while back. Now it's sitting at 0.76

Pretty sure it's already out.

If you have an existing Xbox One and kinect though they'll give you a free one.

Well it's multivoltage at least :p

That's something. Just trying to work out what the 1.8A means when the first PS4 was rated as 1.15-2.5A (250W rating) and the latest CUH-1200 model is rated 0.95-2.3A (230W rating).

120 volts X 1.8A = 216W is how I thought it was worked out but doing the same at 240 volts would mean it = 432W!?.....I'm either missing something here or I'm confused (both, probably!)

If the PSU is close to 200W though it would be evidence the S is still at 28nm.

Our dollar was nearing 59 cents... some dark and scary times holy hell. Then we started unpegging the dollar from oil and it started to rise again. Hopefully our economy will bounce back soon and get back up to +85 cents.

Looks really nice. But I have a hard time justifying it since Scorpio is waiting in the wings.

I'm considering nabbing one this holiday, but if there isn't a good enough black friday bundle (I doubt they would drop the price for BF on the S) I'll probably just wait it out for the Scorpio.

Oh lordy, I was't paying attention to that exactly until games became $80 pre tax, but 59 cents? Jesus Christ.
