Binge watched it these last few nights. Was hooked from the first few minutes. I loved everything (except the iffy CGI) and everyone in it. A few unsatisfying bits towards the end, but overall one of the best shows I've ever seen.

Did they just use New Order's Elegia? Glorious.
They did! Even though my fiancee and I had to confirm it came out after the show is set. Still, great use of it in the scene it was in. As was
Atmosphere
(you might not be up to that yet?).

God's had his chance.
I'm up to I think episode 6? or something of that sort and i want to talk about this show SO BAD RIGHT NOW but i'm terrified of spoilers.

Crazy impressed with this effort outta Netflix. From the opening title to soundfx to the slow creep build. Just really well done...

ol Winona got dem CHOPS son... haven't seen her in anything in forever but gawtdamn.

Hopefully i'll finish the binge tonight. Just madly impressed here.

Just finished it. Great stuff!

Regarding the future, it's an anthology, right? The name seems to point that way.

Man Im here lying in bed sitting next to my wife (who's asleep) just staring at the Netflix sign and almost tearing up after watching the end of episode 3. This show is so good so far and just hitting it off with me on so many levels. I love the 4 main kids, I feel like I'm right back at high school getting bullied right along side them, it's almost painful to watch lol. So many good things to say about this show so far and I'm only on ep 3 like I said.

Quick aside does anyone know if the score is available through iTunes? I can't seem to find it

Goddamn this show was great. By far the best of the Netflix originals for me.

Is season 2 gonna be a continuation or is it going AMH style with completely different story and cast?

Just blew through this season in 2 days. Holy shit was that good. Kept hearing so many great things and I thought there was no way it would live up to it. Man oh man did it blow those expectations away.

Netflix keep bringing shows like this and I'll never even think about canceling my sub.

I'm the only One Who think Will's mother is a very, very bad actress ?
Ryder was fine. The issue, and one of my few nit picks with the show, is the script and pacing has her distraught and repeating the same variation of "I know I sound crazy but I'm not" for too long before giving her more to do as a character. Towards the end when the role expands the character works much better.

I doubt any actress would have been better as the issue is the script and narrow character definition for much of the show.

I liked Winona but I've also met mothers just like her that would freak out and lose their shit far worse than Winona did over losing her son. Shit she's proactive about it if nothing else. I also tend to think people exagerate her freak out moments. On a rewatch there are not many of them but they are fairly melodramatic when they do happen. For most of the show she just seems pretty out of it and distraught which seems pretty natural. Loved that scene where she was buying all the Christmas lights at the general store she worked at.

Most of GAF doesn't have kids and has no idea how hysterical a mother would be in this situation. I thought her performance was pretty damn solid.

I don't have kids myself but I notice people in general really don't seem to like hysterical women even when well acted. Have a dude acting like he's about to have a mental breakdown because they lost a child or a spouse or whatever and people eat that shit up, but when a women does it, man people go off. Not trying to paint everyone who dislikes her or her performance with a broad brush but it is a trend I've noticed in the last couple years.

Just finished it. Loved every second of it! Best new show this year for me (now I'm done, any other tips to binge?).

Going for a binge it again with my date this weekend.

Continuation. They said they have a lot left to tell and explain.

Has anyone found a place to buy the badass poster online yet?

Not yet sadly.

There is a bunch of stuff coming though, various artists on instagram have hinted at "Stranger Things" based projects. I'm hoping Mondo does a deluxe edition of the soundtrack, and hopefully Gallery1988 will do a whole "Stranger Things" themed show at some point.

Just finished watching it, loved it. Personally I don't think it needs another season, but I know everything has to run and run these days, so I'll watch it and see where they take it.

Really? For fuck's sake, they're gonna ruin it... Leave it be and do something else with S2.

in interview the creators said they wrote a book on the details on how everything ties together.

They said season one only covered a fraction of what was in the book.

If the Sept rumor is true, than thats probably another factor(other than the kids age) in why they can transition into S2 so quickly.

September rumor??

Here

Saw someone claiming the cast has been told shooting begins on S2 in September. He didn't post any info about how he knew this so 90% chance he's making it up.

It would go with the theory that Netflix has renewed it, but is waiting to announce it until the publicity for S1 slows down. Have seen several TV critics say they believe this, including Sepinwall today.

Let's stop pretending like there's some objective metric for Winona's acting. Her high profile doesn't preclude her from bad performances. No need to insult people's intelligence by suggesting that they're just confused and really just don't like crazy women or don't have kids.

It's possible that some people just didn't like Winona's acting in this show. I'm one of those people. I like hysterical characters (Kathy Bates did an excellent job playing as one in Misery). I simply just think that Winona didn't give a good performance for her respective role.

To be fair, I've never considered Winona to be some extraordinary actress outside of Stranger Things, so I may just not be a fan of her acting style. But my impression of her acting has nothing to do with not liking hysterical female characters or not having children; it's just my subjective opinion.

To be specific, her performance felt too deliberate and unnatural. She came across as an actress who was trying to play a hysterical character, not a hysterical character who has come to life. My suspension of disbelief evaporated whenever she appeared on screen. I just didn't like her performance, plain and simple.

Just got to the part where the kids are talking about "u can only have one best friend"...I swear to god I must've had that conversation a ton of times as a kid lol. This show is the best.

Do you have to be an 80s kid to like this show?

Lot of people have said that it's just pure nostalgia or something from those days. Is it still good if you're not from then or don't necessarily like 80s style shows/movies?
I was born in 84 but came of age in the 90s, and always found 80s aesthetics to be kind of unappealing, especially early 80s stuff. I really loved ST though. It strikes a really great, classic "kids getting in over their heads" feel. It draws heavily from the 80s, but the core story is really universal and timeless imo.

this is fucking amazing, but the fourth one should be Eleven

Feels kind of weird that they are trying an ARG about a show that takes place in the early 80's. Like I get it but it doesn't mesh well with the series.

I'm 5 episodes in. It's good, but the fact that I've seen all of these tropes a dozen times makes this sometimes feel like a slog as a TV show. Like I'm sitting there knowing what comes next and I'm getting impatient for characters to get on the same page.

This is a pretty big lab, right? Seems like a whole lot of employees. Do none of them live in Hawkins? It seems really odd that it doesn't even appear as a blip on most people's radars. A big mysterious research facility in your backyard... that seems like it'd be circulating through the town consciousness, especially among the kids, with rumors and theories, and would come to mind as people start disappearing.

There are tons of rumors about the lab, the two deputies constantly talk about them. They think they make scifi weapons for the government and such. Also
we see how the members of Brenner's organization act in public when not on the job. It literally looks like they're followed much of the time and they are incredibly paranoid and secretive. So even if they are in town it seems they don't socialize because their own compatriots will kill them just as readily as they will the townsfolk or other people. When they are on the job they all seem rather no nonsense to the point of capping people at will.

HStallion

IIRC, this only came up once the chief saw the pipe and they drove to the lab.

Yeah and you see how readily they are to talk about them. They even ask the head of security jokingly about it and Hobb tells him to ignore them. Also the boys as well talk about the lab and the Dept. of Energy because of how mysterious it is and no one really know's what goes on up there. The lab is no secret and is basically a town legend.

Hmm, I don't remember the kids saying anything up through episode 5. Lucas mentioned a mental institution in the next county over. Maybe the next three episodes have the characters and town start talking about it as an ever-present mystery, but I haven't felt that displayed thus far.
