Venom, Black Cat & other highly anticipated Spidey spinoffs NOT set in MCU

I am still confused as to what this means. Can Spider Man appear on Venom and Black Cat and vice versa yes or no?

So wait.... they're making a Venom movie... without Spider-Man...?

Officially, I don't think they have said whether Peter will make an appearance or not unless I missed it.

Realistically, movie is scheduled for October 2018 and they have announced the director and the lead so far.

I don't think they know what they're doing.

edit: correction, Tom Holland is officially not involved in this Sony shit

Feige had to go medieval when the cameras were off

Amy Pascal: Of course, naturally every single one of Sony's planned Venom, Black Cat, Silver Sable, Mysterio and Kraven spin-offs are going to be crammed into MCU continuity!

"So this is how the MCU dies. With thunderous applause." ~ Feige during that interview/when Tom Harry's casting got general audiences excited

Haha, yes sorry, Bob Odenkirk. I love how that didn't stop people from congratulating me for the suggestion anyway.

Bill Odenkirk: But I'm telling you...I'm not an actor!

Sony: Shut up and get out there, Bob!

"Hmm he seemed much more intense in Better Call Saul"

Cautiously optimistic most of the folks responsible for ASM2 are gone...I didn't even think it was that bad compared to Spider-Man 3. Honestly Spider-Man has the most fleshed out rogues gallery in the Marvel Universe on par with Batman. Homecoming is a Sony joint so I don't see why they can't include Holland and just not mention the avengers in Venom or the Black Cat films. Hell they could just keep him in high school like the first few years of the comic. He's basically a cameo in the MCU anyway so why can't he cameo in the Spider-Man spin offs?

Fox and Sony should talk about a FF cross over.

Good.

Now cancel these stupid spin-offs and focus on getting the Valiant cinematic universe underway, Sony.

I don't understand how these movies can be in the same universe as Spider-Man: Homecoming but not be in the MCU. Is Doctor Strange about to send Spider-Man to another dimension or something? Fuck is going on here!?

My guess is they'll more-or-less be in their own self-contained universe, but they'll make references to Spider-Man. I'm not privy to the exact details of the Sony/Marvel Spider-Man contract, but I also get the feeling Sony may try to independently cast Tom Holland as Spider-Man to make appearances in their Venomverse. I worry about that because then you get general confusion and devaluation of the IP in the public's eyes if Sony's movies are shit. It could make Marvel shy away from having anything to do with Spider-Man after the initial contract runs out.

It's also frustrating because if Sony's movies suck, they are effectively removing villains and secondary characters from possible inclusion in the MCU Spider-Man movies. I would've loved to see if the MCU could create a really compelling Venom storyline, but alas, that seems like it will be off the table now.

Dom & Co have to stop a heist by super heroes? Hmm. Yeah maybe their cars could be literally "suped" up. So they can fly and teleport and shit.

Lol FF as in Fantastic 4 but I like where you're going with this. Spider-Man has always had stronger FF connections in the comics.

Kill all the spin-offs

Let Raimi make Spider-Man 4 & 5 the way he wants, alongside the Holland movies. Introduce Miles Morales. Also, build up for Spider-Men.

Have a nice day

Well, you can sell any movie if the approach is done well. People line up for a Guardians of the Galaxy ride, shit is weird.

What will probably go wrong is that Sony was having an issue getting the centerpiece of the Spider-Man Universe correct. The odds that they'll be able to magically do something special with these side characters is slim to none. If their approach is boilerplate superhero movie, these are dead on the vine. Nobody really cares to begin with if there isn't a Spider-Man in it, so the approach has to be fresh.

They can't and they're not going to be. Nothing is going on. Sony is making Spider-Man villain movies without Spider-Man. That's it.

Without even establishing the characters in the film universe first. I'm struggling even with calling them spin-offs when they have very little connective tissue to begin with.

How is Spidey just a cameo in the MCU? Iron Man 4 jokes being bullshit aside, he's integral to this iteration of the character.

And please never utter that last sentence ever again. Jesus Christ.

What about my highly anticipated Trouble movie? In what universe will it take place? Even if it's Universal's Dark Universe, it needs to happen Sony. Audiences worldwide are clamoring for it.

Not Homecoming obviously but he's only got a bit of screen time in Civil War so I'm just wondering what prevents Sony from including Tom Holland in Venom and the other spin offs? They agreed to share Spider-Man not sell him to Disney. Obviously a FF is never going to happen but canon wise it would be awesome.

I don't understand why Sony is so hellbent on ruining Spider-Man. Just let Marvel handle it and let them get you money.

Did they confirm if this was Eddie Brock Venom or not? The only way I see this movie having even a remote chance of working is if they go with Flash Thompson one man army Venom. I feel like that's the only version that could work as a solo story, especially with needing to go into an origin without freaking Spider-Man.

That Venom movie man. Out of all the superhero movies that one is gonna be a wildcard. Idk what to think. It's all too crazy right now.

Wait. So it's connected to Spider-Man which is in the MCU but not in the MCU? How does this work?

What "level" chess is this?

Have we still not gotten confirmation if Tom Holland's Spider-Man can appear in both of these universes? Venom, Black Cat, etc. not showing up in the MCU was assumed, the big debate was whether Spider-Man could be in both universes.

At this point the best I can hope for is they advertise it as a separate movie, and then at the end of the movie there's a "surprise" that it's actually connected.
