Well, I finally finished Ex-Aid and caught up on Build.

Ex-Aid is a really good show, but I feel the first 25 or so episodes of the show are collectively stronger than the final 20. And the last 10 or so episodes are definitely the weakest point of Ex-Aid. But damn if I didn't love the whole ride from start to finish.

Build's looking to be a pretty good show so far. It feels like Ex-Aid wasn't a fluke and Toei has really found a good formula for Kamen Rider.

I was really into Ex-Aid's back half, but you're right. Build's first two episodes had more bike action than all of Ex-Aid.
I'm so happy to have all the bike scenes in Build so far. I love seeing Kamen Riders actually ride. It's one of the reasons Blade is one of my favorite series; the bike scenes in Blade kick ass.

I feel Gekiranger was where the good designs ended. Go-Onger onward is when we got clusterfuck city.

it's more to do with the toys and the target audience - apparently the younger generation don't like folding, complicated mecha and instead want easy snapping collectibles

I'd argue Boukenger already had that problem with rather imbalanced distribution of pieces

I don't even expect action bike scenes, I just want a Rider that just...use his bike to go to places as a civilian because he happens to have a bike. Obviously Ex-Aid can't do that, but Sento seems to be doing it despite having a secret identity whose name refers to a ride and
being a fugitive.

Even if it's a bit ridiculous and makes no sense, sometimes, I think the main Rider using it's bike (or car, in Drive's case) untransformed is better than not.

Build is still a bit CG heavy, I wonder how long they'll get to keep it that way. Not that Toei CG looks expensive or anything, but normally they tone down after a couple episodes.

They got to lead with the sizzle, then only break out out for special occasions

"I wonder who that fugitive Kamen Rider is? Oh hello, new employee we just hired to work on our most top secret item. That's a cool bike."

"The robots are screaming something? 'That's Kamen Rider Build's bike'? Silly robots. Sento, you should help reprogram them. *nod*"

Sento seems to work there like Tnedo worked at the police department. He shows up only when he needs something

I was wondering if the Cafe dude would become a rider, the last inhuman rider Chalice worked at a cafe didn't he?
Chalice worked as a photographer, but he was rooming at the cafe and helped out from time to time.

Also, wouldn't the last inhuman rider be Parad?

"Must be a popular model. I should ask Sento where he got his."

Build 4

We're on episode 4 and I don't know who to trust. Kinda weird that Sento never thought of asking this question before now though.

Sexy.

Some cool camera angles at the quarry fights. I love how old fashioned the "inside the brain" effects were.

Good episode. Cool to see Naga keep his dark powers. And yes, looks like white will be Lucky's default form, with the Red one being used sometimes? I think that's fine, White has a unique fighting style.

This was a nice way to end the Evil Naga arc, too. Also, good setup for the next arc.

Well those Metal Gear jokes on Champ feel so hilarious now.

Kyuranger spoilers

The real Jark Matter headhoncho is Yagyuu Jubei, who is based on the Champ skeleton, as well as another lackey Zero also based on Champ's skeleton. Champ was made to be the ultimate weapon.

This is so Metal Gear Solid it hurts.

Father Says: The mystery of Don Armage continues to be intriguing, but there had better be a point to all of this. Right now, I'm leaning towards a second Don Armage (or someone pretending to be him) or perhaps the timeline distortions directly impacting his death. That being said, there was a lot to like in this episode. Outstanding character work for Balance and Naga, of course. I think I like their relationship the best because of how their characters work. It's a wonderful contrast that really helps sell their friendship. Naga's actor got to ham it up, too, which is always fun. Right now, I think the story is in a little bit of a lull while they figure out their next steps, so hopefully the filler episode next week will provide us with some breathing room to set up the next big arc. (Also, great monster enlargement for the tiny monster).

Son Says: I had to go to the doctor to get my two month checkup, so I really needed this reward today. Luckily, it was worth it. I got so excited during the fight between Silver and Gold that I farted a big, smelly fart, and the fight scene at the end resulted in massive hiccups of joy.

Build 04

Father Says: Pretty solid character work here and some good world building. The reveal the the owner has something to do with Faust was pretty obvious to everyone, but I appreciate that they didn't drag on the secret for longer than reasonably plausible. The show makes a point out of the fact that Sento is the smartest Hesei rider ever, which means mysteries need to be resolved reasonably to maintain plausibility. The standout scene for me was Sento explaining how memory works with the batteries, which was an excellent use of both science and emotion. I'm appreciating that Sento does have a personality despite being smart (usually, smart characters on shows like this are just smart, with nothing else). It reminds me a lot of Phillip from Kamen Rider Double, which was similarly an excellent use of a very intelligent character.

Son Says: If you want me to really watch this show, you've got to stop feeding me right before we see it. I passed out two minutes into the episode and remained asleep for several hours.

WTF, so
so the timeline changed, if true. But the scans had another 'Don Armage' fight, so that should probably be explained too.

If it's true, that's a good twist.

Watched the first ep of Gridman.

It is amazing some of it looks good even for today while some shit would have been dated in the 70s.

You can forgive a lot of cheesy effects with good acting. If you ever get a chance, see the original Godzilla from the 50s. Some truly phenomenal acting really makes you forget how ridiculous that suit looks.

The models and filming them was incredible in gridman.

Hell yeah! Finally found a kamen rider shirt seller on ebay that has HUMAN sizes! Ordered a 3xl from "zenstudio" on ebay, it arrived 3.5 weeks ahead of estimate and it not only fit my 6'2" 250lb (ex pro wrestler baby!) body well enough that its loose!

Dudes got Ultraman shirts too. I am so happy right now. Time to order me a Shadowmoon print shirt.

Here is the shirt I bought.

Build fights are still better than Gaim's or OOO's, but the thing to me is that Build is barely fighting. He didn't break sweat (or got pissed) enough.
