Fishing Resort new trailer [Wii/XSEED/Prope] - open-world fishing

5 Pages Achieved! :D

Ok. I have some amazon credit and I think I need this.

Yesssssssssssssss!

Have cruiser, will travel!

Score! You got it already?! Have you been to
the cave
yet? :D

Today was a good day for fishing.

I ranked #5 in the Big Size World Ranking of Forceps Fish! 0.7664ft S-Rank.
Only 0.0007ft away from #1, which is shared by 4 people. :(

#5 in the world?! Between you and adroit (and any other hidden players with our version of the game) the West is representing! Sadly I can't enter with my own save data because I had access to, er, impossibly huge fish by using debug when I was QA-ing it. I'm counting on you guys, then. ;)

Wow these shots are beautiful. Actually, they look impossible for the game running on an HDTV through the Wii. Are these possibly shots from an Emulator of some kind? I ask because I'm still interested in getting the game running on Dolphin, as the graphics are crazy through it (but performance I just can't get good enough to play with).

These are probably a bit clearer than in-game screens because they're environment shots to showcase the areas and don't have any motion (water, animals, the player, etc), but as anyone here who's playing what they think of the graphics. I think they're pretty damn impressive for a Wii game, and the locations are very pleasing in their detail (I just noticed rabbits hop around in one of the forest areas the other day). I'm not sure what Dolphin would do to the graphics, though...

Thanks for the reply at least I know you don't have any secret info on Dolphin settings now lol! I am going to break down and play it on the Wii - I can't wait any longer to really dig into it =)

Trolling tours are fun, just caught me a Hammerhead Shark, Yellowfin Tuna and a sexy S-rank Black Marlin. Got around 30k pts for those fishes. So now I'm off to the 2nd area and will also try some night fishing which I just unlocked.

It's really good.

^Listen to this man.

Yes, but I haven't caught the
King of Herrings
yet. I did catch several cute-tastic
Flapjack Octopuses
.

They kill me with their squishy-cuteness.

You say Dolphin and I think water-bound mammal. Looking forward to hearing how you get on with Fishing Resort. I think I might indulge in a little virtual vacation time myself during the weekend.

Only 3 actually. Up your posts per page setting! ;P

...
Aaaaaaaand I'm off to the media room to have myself a good cry now.

And I'm also lowering the posts per page count so that this topic looks SUPER popular (in my sparkling imaginary world of make-believe)! ...

looks cute. If I had wii I would get this.

Cute, fun AND well made. You could get it for a friend/family member and then just show up at odd hours dressed in fishing gear with an expectant look on your face. ^_-

Thanks for supporting it! I believe you'll get a lot of pleasure out of it. Let me know what you think once it's up and running.

Trolling tours can be a battle of attrition with the bigger guys, but guessing which rod is going to bend and then landing a massive fish makes it well worth it (I have never in all my hours of playing EVER scored an S-class Black Marlin. Jealous.). Night fishing is also really fun. I recommend Pacar Beach for your first attempt (if you haven't already gone) because wading knee deep into darkly sparkling water while shooting stars twinkle overhead makes for amazing atmosphere.

Think I'll have to pick this up down the road. I'm always a sucker for those "well done but no one knows about" Wii games.

Thanks for giving it a shot. ^_^ This would certainly be a great candidate for that kind of a game. Word is slowly getting out, but it's hard to get traction when most people automatically dismiss more casual games like this one as shovelware. Totally understandable, but I'm doing everything I can to refute that. It's a Naka game, dammit! :p

I finally found all of the fish in Teman Paradise Beach (according to the Album at least), the last one gave me a S rank to boot too! :D And not only that, the Black Porgy had told the also rare Demon Stinger to be S rank to be caught soon after too lmao! I couldn't believe my luck! :D :D :D

Now onwards to a new area! :D

Oh yeah, I have a question. Does the color of the bait affect a few select fish or something or depends on the body of water its used in?

Saw a gamestop near me had this in stock so I went there and it took them 10 minutes to find the bundle, it was in there back room. From what ive played I'm really enjoying it! It's one of the best looking Wii games, I loved fishing on the shore facing the sunset with the realistic sounds of nature. I love the aquarium upgrading/building and trying to get customers in to earn more points. The game gives me a mario golf gba vibe for some reason, without all the text.

Let me know what you find out. We've had people say they found it no problem in Canada, and then others that had to order online to get a copy. I'm wondering if most of the problems aren't from the Quebec area where we don't have copies because of the bi-lingual package requirements. :/
My friend said they were never sent any copies, but I managed to snag a copy from ToysRUs in Mississauga for anyone looking in the Toronto area. I'd say keep your eyes open as I found it on the lowest possible shelf in an accessory aisle. I've still yet to find a copy at Wal-Mart.

Love to do it. At the very least supporting Xseed titles is something I try to do when I'm interested in them for full price. Your team brings me all the niche stuff I would hate to live without, and in this case 30 bucks is a steal.

That being said probably won't get around till playing it until around Christmas. Finished up finals yesterday and now I get to work full time up until then. Good money to pay for next semesters classes, but it's rough having one of your main employees out for an extended period of time, especially when you work shipping packages around the holiday season.

Once I dive into it I will try surely post impressions and the such. This thread needs some love.

Picked up a copy and should be waiting for me at dat thing I call a home via Amazon. Been wanting a good finishing game since Reel Bass on DC.

Also, I have no idea why I put Reel Bass... some reason decided to combine Sega Bass and Reel Fishing. Definitely meant Sega Bass on DC.

I rotate through the colors and it seems most fish are happy to bite on anything. I keep a log of all the fish I catch (including where and how I caught them) and I haven't noticed any strong bait preferences so far. But I think rotating through the colors in every area is a good idea just in case you find a picky fish.

What takes the patience of Job is figuring out what lures to use and how to use them. Fishing with bait is so much easier. My biggest success with lures is with the Alligator Gar. Those things are like, "NOM, NOM, NOM!!!" I could probably just throw a car brake shoe into the water and the Alligator Gar would go crazy.

:D I'm having trouble with sinking lures too. I'd flick the wiimote and try to keep it moving but there's that issue with not being able to see it unlike you can zoom in with the floater. But yet areas like that Dua Ribu Lake where most fish can be found hiding underneath the lily pads kinda motivates me to get used to lure fishing. Its not that where you can see its moving to, its how deep the bottom is that I have no idea. I figured that's where the vibration tells you that you hit bottom. But lol yeah you'd think that's a fish nibbling too.

I find that the lures that sinks slowly/raises fast or buoyant (these works pretty well) lures to work well with the timing of retrieving at least with shallow water. I've not visited deep water yet but I think those deep/fast sinkers can be beneficial.

Anyway, I'm keeping a spreadsheet on my fish too. :D

Yeah, the lures seem to work better in fresh water. It's the medium-sized saltwater beasts I'm currently trying to figure out with lures. Maybe the answer is lures just aren't very effective on salty fish. But there are a lot of lures to try so I'm not ready to give up yet.

That is super lucky! I don't know what the stats are on that but I wouldn't be surprised if it was something crazy like a 1/50 shot of getting it. Nice work. ^_- As for bait, adroit got most of it. Some fish (like the gar) don't seem to like the rainbow, but will lust after the yellow/red large (or lures) for some unholy reason. Most are not so particular, though.

We don't have a lot of, eh, placement clout, so our stuff routinely ends up in the backroom. Cheers for pursuing it to those haunted GS depths. ^_- You seem to be enjoying it, though, so I think it was worth it. It's the kind of game that's VERY easy to come back to after setting it down. I'm daunted by all the stuff I had going on/left to do in DA, but with Fishing Resort the simplicity of the goal in the game (fish, collect, relax) makes it stress-free pick-up-and-play kind of game. Be sure to post how you're getting on as you start reeling in the S-class monsters. I love hearing people's reactions to those. ^_^

Naturally you moved all the lower aisle copies to display prominently in front of the store with a neon sign, right? ;) (j/k) Appreciate you hunting it down and pinpointing a store for people. It'll be a hard game to find at first perhaps, but I'm hoping that the slow momentum will be on an upward tick (thanks in no small part to you guys who sought it out) and that stores will reorder more copies.

Aww... Thank you so much! We have a lot of really dedicated supporters who explicitly go after our stuff full-price (even in hard times), so believe me, it's appreciated. You guys offset some of the piracy (and other issues) and keep us going. We are in your debt and will try to keep putting out cool games for you. I can't wait til you get the game started. This thread has love (thanks, everyone!), but I would not be opposed at all to more people sharing their experiences and showing off their fishing triumphs. :)

I didn't get a chance to crack open the game last night, but how does the multiplayer work in this? Can two people fish simultaneously?

Two people can, but it's more like cooperative fishing. If you activate another Wiimote while playing, a second avatar will pop up to fish alongside you. Both can cast their lines into the water, but only the first person who gets a hit can reel it in. Kind of a mini-competition to see who gets lucky first. Whatever is caught goes to the main player, though. There's also ice fishing, however, and that is more along the lines of true competitive fishing, as up to 4 players can fish at the same time to see who can score the most smelt.

I'm beginning to believe some fish simply cannot be caught with lures, period. In Dua Ribu Lake:

1. I can catch 9000 largemouth and smallmouth buffalo per hour with bait (give or take a few thousand).

2. I cannot catch a single buffalo with any lures I try. None. Zero. Zip. Nada. Zilch-a-roonie.

3. I can catch a fair number of White Perch, Bluegill, or Black Bass with lures. So it's not like I'm completely clueless with lures.

Can anyone catch largemouth or smallmouth buffalo in Dua Ribu Lake with lures? They're over by the red windmill (left side of lake). You can catch them by the boatload with a large (L) rod and any color bait. What about lures? If you catch one with a lure, please tell me which one(s) you used. Thanks!

How is the rod controller? Worth it, or just stick with the standard version?

If you have trouble with some lures you can practice using different lures in the fishing store. It helps with getting the timing down.

Hmmm... I think I caught a smallmouth buffalo with the lures once (I think I was just starting out with them at that point), but I could be mistaken. As we discussed before, it seems that some fish are VERY particular about what they'll hit on. At this point adroit and Philia and the experts, I'd say. ^_-

I've been meaning to pick this up.

How is the rod controller? Worth it, or just stick with the standard version?

The rod controller is solidly built and will add a bit of challenge to your game (I'd say). I had to be much more precise and even with my reeling using it, so it does add an element of realism into your game, if that's what you're looking for. But, many play without (as adroit says) and do perfectly fine. The bundle is also quite cheap, though, so I don't think you'll feel put out even if you do get it and decide you don't like it.

Wait..what is this?

WOW after watching some videos on this I ordered it off Amazon. How have I not heard of this game before?

It is one of the best kept secret games for the Wii! Spread the word! Fishing Resort is amazing and totally affordable. ^_^

If you have trouble with some lures you can practice using different lures in the fishing store. It helps with getting the timing down.

As Mr. Yeager says (I know your secret identity!), practice makes perfect, and once you perfect the lure, the game opens up that much more.

Best fishing game on Wii. It'll hook you and drag you down into the depths of fishing madness.

When I opened the thread, I could only see the top half of the first image, and I thought, "whoa those graphics!" Then I scrolled down a little and was like "oh, that's more like it :lol"

So anyways ... is this the OT? There are some reviews out for it now, and it sounds intriguing. How big is the world? Compared to something like Monster Hunter?

Yeah I noticed this too. I'd float bait quite a bit with those guys (Buffalo) and then get nada with lures. I thought I need to be a specific spot for this but lol nah. Yet in the same turn I still have not reeled in a Bowfin or a Snakehead or a Black Bullhead or a Yellow Perch yet. ;_____;

(The Bulletin board's targets helps to tell you where/what fish are available in the area opposed to looking at shadow shapes in the album. :D )

Meanwhile I already got S rank on half of the fish in the lakes lmao. I'm trying to find those rare fish and keep getting S ranked fish I don't want lmao.

It's...the default OT because no one has made one yet. ;_; But! We are going strong! Every day we manage to pull someone new into our sticky web of fish tales. Mwaha.

Anyway, *cracks knuckles* let me tell you of the $20 treasure that awaits you should you succumb to its myriad fishy pleasures.

Fishing Resort takes place on the island of Penangkapan and has 8 main areas and a plethora of smaller sub-fishing areas:

6TQWtl.jpg

These areas range from tropical beaches to jungles to lily-pad choked lakes and secret caves inhabited by the creepiest looking fish you never hoped existed.

Within these areas you can generally roam about and drop your line wherever there's water. There are inflatable rafts, kayaks, motorboats and eventually a giant cruiser for you to tool about in (bikes too). You can fish with bait or lures and go on trolling tours to hit the deep sea areas and land some great white sharks. :D

The world has a lot of variety and will take you some time to explore all of it. Adroit, Philia or minimumhippo could give you a better sense of how long it'll take to to finish, but if you go all out and do the quests (yes, there are fish quests!), collect everything and hit all the areas then you're looking at AT LEAST 50-100 hours.

You also get to collect all your aquatic trophies in your own multi-floored, many-tanked aquarium (that also earns you money to buy crazy outfits and upgraded fishing gear):

sEFi4.jpg

The game by itself is $20, and the sexay bundle (using the peripheral rod specifically designed for this game from Namco/Prope) is a mere $30. It also comes in a rather attractive box:

REVIEWS

Diehard GameFAN gave it a final word as "GREAT GAME" and said it was one of the best Wii games they'd ever played.

GameShark gave it a B+

Popzara gave it a "Yay" and their Editor's Choice Award

Nintendo Power gave it a 75

IGN 7/10

Other sites found it to be a fishing game and seemed disappointed that there was so much fishing... :(

At any rate, you're better off asking those playing right now what they think of it. Obviously I'm biased, but I enjoyed the hell out of it.

And finally, you wanted to know how it compared to something like, say, Monster Hunter, so here. Take a gander at THIS:

Fishing Resort: The EPIC RPG

A hyneria snatched the X-100 Berserker out of my hands and spanked me with it. Then it threw the rod back at me, minus the bait. Guess that taught me a lesson.

I wasn't sure if we should change the title to a OT proper but it does help for some views or posts in this thread for sure. :)

If you ask me, anyone's still unsure about this game, I've played a lot of underwater games and absolutely loved the fishing aspects in several games like Legend of Zelda, Breath of Fire, Harvest Moon, and Animal Crossing Wild World. Hell, I've played Legend of the River King for ps2 and absolutely loved that title too.

I may be biased but I can tell you that this game is a quality fishing game at that great price. :) Get it people!

If no one else has created an OT by the time I finally make full member status, I'm going to at least attempt to create an OT. I'll have to read up on the process. I think there's some thread where you have to stake a claim first. And maybe by then people will bitch and moan that the game has been out for too long and I'll be defeated. But at least I'll try.

But I'm not staking any kind of claim at this time. If someone else wants to do it, go for it with my blessings (not that you need them).

I so want to get this, but given I don't see it getting a PAL release anytime soon, I'll have to use homebrew to play it. Pity the shipping from Amazon is almost the same price as the game itself (want to get the bundle) :p

Given technology hates me, I mean really hates me (I managed to somehow format the entire accounting department at TAFE during an exam where they gave me step by step instructions to follow to do the simple exam), is home brew easy to do?

Yeah, it's dead simple. If all you wanna do is break the region lock then all you need to do is install the Homebrew Channel with Bannerbomb or Smash Stack, and then run GeckoOS from the SD card. It's quick, easy and idiot-proof.

OMFG, Panas Jungle is now my favorite place of everywhere. :D Managed to snag me 3 Alligator gars lmao. I'm totally missed out on the King! He snagged my bait and got away! ;____; And I thought Giant Groupers from Sembilan Island were awesome. :D

I finally did a Trolling tour and thought it was so and so in execution though. I still prefer to get a hot spot of variety of fish than fishing for the same large fish. Granted Oilfish isn't something worthwhile getting on my first trolling tour (totally MEH looking fish if you ask me lmao).

Saw that there's a Master Symbol Hunt. ;____; I barely passed easy lmao.

I did well in Counting Fish activity on Easy and Hard (Medium lol is in Panas Jungle, I'm silly) but I cannot find my awards on these in the laptop? I was sure there's a "back to back" platinum win for these but I was looking for it to confirm and didn't see it in Common?

EDIT: LOL second attempt, finally got the king. I sure don't like how they look like Alligator Gars from the distance but oh well. Pirarucu is only a D rank though. ;___; I CAN DO BETTER. I promise pics!

There's one award for Fish Count: bronze for winning easy, silver for normal, gold for hard, and platinum for master. Look under the Common awards for "Fish Count" and you should have a gold (for winning in hard mode).

Any time. I refuse to let a good game like this be completely overlooked. I will post as many weird fish as it takes to hook more fans! :D And, $20 is a sweet price point (as is the $30 bundle), but it has been a bit hard to track down in Canada. TheNix seemed to have some luck locating a copy, though. I've also been assured by Marketing that it is in Walmart and Toys R Us, but maybe only a few here and there. :( Sorry to make it such a hunt to find the game.

Well, if you did get a chance (when you're upgraded), I have lots of art/screens you could use. And your thread (should you get to make it) (or anyone's really) will not fail! I will post a blob fish every day to keep it alive. ;)

I can't comment on homebrew, but importers seem to be doing OK with it. I'm sorry we aren't able to do a PAL release, but I'm happy that you still want to give it a go. Just don't pull a me with electronics and use super glue... (It happened nearly 3 years ago and they STILL make fun of me for it at work)

Oh...uh...heh, heh. Pardon me.
Uh, well, let's see how much this baby is worth.

Whose "fault" was that, H.Pro? Yours or Tom's? :) Nobel prize to whomever takes the blame for that one.

Haha. Tom strikes again, though I edited the game so I 'let it stay', so to speak. Usually my job when working with him is to remove 95% of his exclamation marks (which he abuses mercilessly). As you can see from that line I failed in my duty, but I'm glad you enjoyed it. ^_-

Picture evidence, YES! How can I discern whether or not you guys are just telling fish tales if I don't get to see these amazing S-class monsters you're all hauling in? (j/k) I expect more in the future!

Panas is an awesome fishing spot, though. I LOVE Arowanas and the Dorado is really pretty too. Add the Piranhas and Gars/Pirarucu and you have yourself a prime location. The Peacock Bass kind of piss me off, though. They're ALWAYS trying to take the bait when I'm hunting for Gars. Greedy.

There's definitely a Platinum Award for the Fish Count, but no back-to-back, I'm afraid.

"Highest Score in Fish Count was updated.
[Bronze]Easy mode [Silver] Normal mode
[Gold] Hard mode [Platinum]Master mode"

Naturally you moved all the lower aisle copies to display prominently in front of the store with a neon sign, right? ;) (j/k) Appreciate you hunting it down and pinpointing a store for people. It'll be a hard game to find at first perhaps, but I'm hoping that the slow momentum will be on an upward tick (thanks in no small part to you guys who sought it out) and that stores will reorder more copies.

Funny you should make that joke. I used to be an Assistant Manager at an EB Games and my girlfriend is a Supervisor at a retail store. While I was thinking "I should face this", I heard her say "That's bullshit" and she began facing the remaining copies of the game.

Nice! The co-op fishing sounds perfect for me and my girlfriend, she likes to help rather than play the full game, so it should work out well. Sounds like it can still be a bit competitive in seeing who can snag the fish first and she sure loves to kick my ass in things. Thanks for being so responsive! I think I'll PM adroit about getting the OT setup.

I'll be getting this for myself for Christmas (with the rod) as a reward for completing my medical internship. A reward chock full of virtual fish.

My pleasure and I must say, you guys are awesome. You have no idea how much it pains me (as someone who works on these games) to see them shoved in a bottom corner or not displayed at all. Since I started working at XSEED I have shed more (figurative) tears for our titles than all pet rescue commercials combined.

I would also be delighted and most grateful if you and adroit were able to tag-team an OT. (I have control of our social media, and I will use it to further the cause/thread!)(I also use our media to further the cause of bacon, so I'm not sure how helpful it will be...)

One of us! One of us! :D

TheNiX and I have exchanged PMs. He was hoping I had artistic skills. Unfortunately, I don't. The average Alligator Gar has more artistic talent in its snout than I have in my entire body.

My favorite area is Malam Jungle because motor boating through the narrow waterways is just so much fun. In huge areas like the ocean or Kanan Lake it barely feels like you are moving because everything is so far away. But in Malam, you have stuff all around you. It's like the difference between flying in a commercial jet at 30,000 feet and flying in a helicopter among the sky scrapers in NYC. You are actually going way faster in the commercial jet but it's far more exciting in the helicopter amongst the buildings (in the urban jungle).

I got grudge sucked!
My 3 year old daughter LOVES this game. We haveonly caught small fish so far, but we also bought a bunny shirt, a ribbon, rode a bike, visited the aquarium, brought a fishing rod to a forgetful husband. Its ace so far.
