NHL '12 Playoffs |OT| "The Cup is our destiny this year."

This is his biggest problem, there aren't many "great" teams that are in need of a goalie, especially with such an ugly contract.

Exactly. If he really does want out of Vancouver, he better be willing to waive to any team
except Columbus
because his contract will probably ensure that getting to that point in the first place will be extremely difficult.

No he doesn't. That's the beauty of a no trade clause. If he doesn't want to go to those teams he doesn't have to. Canucks are then forced to trade Schneider and he's the unquestioned #1 on a playoff team.

But then Gillis can just play hardball and not trade either of them, which is probably the last thing Luongo wants. I doubt Luongo wants to chance another year in Vancouver, especially if he's likely to back-up. The pressure and scrutiny would be insane.

-Luongo says he'll waive his no-trade, but he wants to go to a playoff team
-Canucks will field offers for Luongo, but they won't bring anything absurd to him
-other GM's will likely lowball for Luongo and/or offer salary dumps

I'm not hoping for anything great in return, but I wish Luongo the best wherever he goes. He deserved better from the six years he spent here.

Depending on what Schneider is going to make, I'm not sure if he can afford to keep both.

Been kicking this idea around for awhile, but when NHL 13 comes out, we need to have a 5-on-5(or close to it) NHL-GAF tournament. Habs-GAF vs Leafs-GAF, Blackhawks-GAF vs Wings-GAF, etc.

You think the pressure would be bad on Luongo? What about the pressure on Gillis, if the Canucks are bounced in the first round again while he has $10 Million (that could be spent to advance the roster) invested in a backup goalie?

Luongo's money is guaranteed to him. Gillis' job isn't. Luongo holds all the cards.

that'd be fun.

I still wish we could have an actual GAF game :(.

BWG and Socreges can settle their arguments.... ON THE ICE. DUN DUN DUN!

Pretty sure they can't. We spent to the cap this year and there's too many pieces we'd rather not lose just to have the luxury of two goaltenders. Plus, we actually have two prospects that need NHL time (Eddie Lack, who was tearing up the AHL for awhile, and someone else at a lower level who was impressing).

Plus, we have Luongo locked down long term and Schneider could be worth a lot more on the market (young guy, RFA!). Would Gillis rather have Schneider, Lack and a pick, or Luongo, Lack, a great pick and a player? It's not totally absurd to say we could have Columbus' #2 pick in the draft, for example.

Tom's article argues this pretty well.

I see your point, but I still think he'll waive if a team like TB/FLA/TOR wants him enough to willingly take on his contract. He has to realize that pretty much no elite teams need a goaltender right now.

If you can convince me to buy an Xbox, NHL 13, and Live by the time it comes out I am soooooo down

I could see TB because of the Stevie/Olympics connection. Too many burned bridges in Florida methinks.

Toronto media would eat him alive, he'll die young in Toronto.

Of course, but that's a world away from you originally saying he'll wave for "any team". Luongo lived and played in Florida for years; the Panthers and Lightning are both possibilities. He would view those as good situations with teams who have potential. But no, he will not go to the Oilers or Blue Jackets just to get a #1 job.

I think this is the biggest issue. If Vancouver wants to re-sign Schneider to (presumably) be the starting goaltender then they are going to have to pay him quite a bit more than what he was making this year ($900k).

Yeah, the media in Toronto is brutal, but on the flip side, we'd be building statues for him if he comes in here and gives us competent goaltending.

TB seems like the logical choice, but there could be some money issues there. They already have a whole bunch of long-term, big money contracts.

I think New Jersey could be a great fit if Brodeur retires, but they have serious money issues too.

I like Luongo, but man, Schneider just has this calmness to him. He seems so much less stressed out, lacks the baggage that Luongo carries, expectations would probably be lower etc. I'd personally like to see Schneider stay and Lou go.

I also can't imagine Burke making himself look like a hypocrite and taking on Luongo's contract. He considers such contracts cap circumvention and went off on them when Kovalchuk signed with NJ.

All things being equal, Canucks would be better off with Schneider but they may not be able to find a suitor for Lou.

I thought you had an xbox? :lol

I had a launch model from 2005 that finally got the RROD last Winter. I've been without it ever since (I even did the penny trick! it worked, but now it just freezes)

If you don't buy one marvie and I will come to your house and crack some skulls.

Yeah! Get an xbox or else...

Stop shitting on my team. Start shitting on my finger.
I'm down for an NHL 13 tournament. I have 11, but skipped 12, probably going to get 13.

Also, too bad Ottawa isn't playing until Thursday, this 1 game a day thing is boring.

Yeah, that's the main reason why I don't expect Luongo to come here. Plus, Luongo is 33, and acquiring him and his 10 year contract doesn't really make sense for a young team like Toronto.

All things being equal, Canucks would be better off with Schneider but they may not be able to find a suitor for Lou.

Schneider for Columbus' 2nd (mentioned earlier) seems like a very interesting trade, actually. I'm just not sure how the fans and media in Vancouver would react to keeping Lu at this point.

So I never saw the controversial goal from last night, so I looked it up and all I could do is LOL

that's an embarrassment and I'm glad lunqvist said something after the game.

here's the video, I'm sure its been posted a few times:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJztvFLC2qQ&feature=relmfu

I agree with them calling it a goal, if it had been no goal on the ice then that would have stood as well. There is just no way to tell from the video if he actually made contact, and then Henrik's glove or the stick didnt touch it afterwards. There is just to much going on in that play to say conclusively that he kicked it in on his own.

His stick was pushing Lundqvist out of the net, though. The play should have been whistled down before the puck even crossed the goal line, although I'm not sure the video guys were allowed to consider that when they were reviewing the goal.

I think Tampa is the most logical choice.

Small hockey market, no pressure at all.
Steve Yzerman connection with the olympics
Closer to being a playoff team than Toronto

Plays in the same division as Florida

They cant look at that, all they could check was if it was a distinct kicking motion that caused the puck to go into the net. He clearly kicked at the puck, but there was no way to tell if he made contact, and if it was last contact.

Why would Columbus trade a 2nd for Schneider? Columbus will be terrible for years, with or without Schneider. They're not ready to contend. Why not get a young prospect who can develop and be ready in 2-3 years when the team is (hopefully) worth a shit?

You can't see it on that video but last night if you look the replay from the front of the net, Neil makes a kicking motion but the puck goes under his skate, it nicks the outside of his skate but he doesn't actually propel it in, someone else does. It probably should have been no goal due to interference.

Henrik is one of my favorite players but he needs to give his head a shake if he thinks the NHL or anyone else seriously wants Ottawa to advance. We're near the bottom of the list of NHL team TV networks want to see in the SC playoffs and definitely the last place Canadian team. The Ducks-Sens SCF in 2007 had one of the lowest ratings in recent history if I recall.

Not that I believe it but Sens fans have more of a case for conspiracy over the non-call puck over the glass(which was deflected by an invisible man) which would have given us 2 man advantage and made up for the bullshit 2-man advantage NYR got.

Tampa is broke. They lost $30 million last season, and I assume that number will be even greater this year considering they missed the playoffs.

They definitely seem like the best choice if Vancouver agrees to take back a lot of salary in return, though.

And family. His wife is from Florida, IIRC, and still lives there. I'd consider that a plus, unless he hates his wife's family, lol.

Because Scott Howson is clinically retarded and chances are, they'll either ruin that top end prospect within 2-3 years, or they'll draft a Russian player who'll run off to the KHL in 6 months time.

Bluejackets with a top pick is as useless as Mason Raymond with a puck.

He apparently was friends with his wife's dad before he met her. Her dad feeds him free Italian food.

it looked as if he was slow-motion pushing/spearing lundqvist out of the net and then ALSO made a kicking motion. I wanna say even the attempt should get it called back, but that's not how the rule works. Maybe they should revisit that ruling and clear up the grey area?

Interference on goalies during goals should be reviewed by video. This season the on-ice calls have been terrible in this aspect.

A legitimate #1 goalie (assuming Schneider is the real deal) is much more valuable than a prospect who might be a good player in 2-3 years, IMO.

It would probably be an overpayment, but Howson has been talking about working hard to solve the goaltending situation, so I can't see them going with stop-gaps yet again.

I don't see why not. It's not like it will make the game that much longer... plus the people who care about the game aren't going to be in an uproar over 2 minutes

I complain about Jersey Shore too, but damn if I don't watch every season.

The first round is slowing down, the NBA has been in tank mode for three weeks, and i'm a season behind on Game Of Thrones. Ain't much to do but Feed The Machine.

Which is why I was stunned when the owners/GMs were thinking about bringing back the 2 line pass. It made absolutely no sense.

Also, I fully expect movement toward widening the nets to come either this offseason or next. If the goals keep decreasing they're going to have to do something about it.

Instead of widening the nets, why not increase the height a few inches to add some room to the top shelf - you know, that place that butterfly goalies tend to leave open?

The days of Chris Terreri, Arturs Irbe, and the rest of the small goalies are gone. We're left with 6'0" minimum goalies now, so increasing height instead of width makes sense. Let Kay Whitmore deal with the wide-ass goalie equipment.

people like success and achievements. Look at gamerscore, some people have a shit ton of points and love to play games they otherwise wouldn't just so that number will go up. Some people just really can get behind that sort of thing. I never cared for the Reddit Karma system, seems like it just ruins a lot of the posts there, but as you can see some people like it and I've even heard someone in a class of mine lament not getting their post up on reddit quick enough to get the karma for some event.

I got 50 thumbs up for making fun of Ilya kovalchuk on YouTube once. Felt pretty good about it.
