Hard-court is his best surface, right?

As we've seen just this year, things can change on a dime.

Both true statements, but last year at this point Djokovic had won everything except Roland Garros, including beating Nadal in the Rome final. It's clear the landscape is completely different and Djokovic after losses to different players (Fed, Nadal, Murray, Isner) doesn't have the invincible aura he had last year. He still might be generally considered the guy to beat though, depending how he does in the US Open (series), as Fed's #1 ranking is a bit a result of "tournament whoring".

I think they should get rid of interviewing the runner up on court 2 minutes after they have lost. Im not a murray fan but that was just brutal to watch. I cant think of any other sport that has the loser talk in front of the entire crowd as soon as they've lost.

He played one more than djoko and the same as nadal.

Really epic play from Roger. I woke up at 5 am on the West coast, made strawberries & cream with mimosas and thoroughly enjoyed watching some vintage Fed.

Maybe it's the amount of headlines Fed has been doing since Basel last year that I got that impression. Either way, Fed is a reigning champion in one major, ATP Finals, 3 masters and 3 smaller tournaments, so definitely deserved #1, regardless of what Djokovic/Nadal were doing in that time.

Well, I think we're just about done gentlemen and ladies.

How would you guys rate this tournament and/ or grand final compared to other Wimbledons?

I still don't get why the majority of people (at least here) dislike Murray.

Sure he comes across as lacking any sort of emotion, but it's obvious he's just a very shy person.

.

Two reasons.

He's an amazingly gifted athlete who plays too passively. He waits for people to make mistakes.

Also, he often pretends to be hurt when there's absolutely nothing wrong with him.

Bonus: He looks like a school bully.

It's like some people here don't know what an introvert is.

completely random, but why don't the players bow to the royal box anymore? haha I've always wondered this!

They stopped it in 2002 I think. If the Queen is ever there they do it and I think they did it for Charles this past week, but they now ask the players if they will do it rather than demand it.

Murray seems like the kind of guy I usually hang around with, Fedal are OK but douchey at times, Djokovic is the type of person that tries too hard to be cool, giving off a fake vibe. At least my impressions.

Why do players always fall on the court when they win the championship?

I know they're happy, but it seems almost expected.

What if you just didn't feel like falling over? Would you spoil the photo opportunity? Are there people who expect you to fall over?

I'm thrilled for the Fedbot! I was just checking out his career statistics and it unbelievable that he has made it to the quarters in every Major since 2004. It's clear that he can't dominate like he did at his peak, but his consistency as he's gotten older is tremendous.

It may look like that from outside, but with how beat they are and the emotional release it's probably a very natural reaction, must feel great for them

Safin definitely did it the classiest way tho, by far

hahaha, nice reflections there, been thinking similar stuff before it happened as i already KNEW he was gonna do it as always ;)

I'd welcome it if someone like Fed/Nadal/Djkoer would mix up their "game" a little concerning this and maybe, i dunno, start jumping around or whatever instead of the falling thing... get creative!

amen to that.

I really like the way tennis is shaping up with four great players who are able to compete for grand slams consistently. Way better than the Nadal v Fed thing a few years back.

Instead of 2 you now have 4. awesome.

Gimme back the years when someone like Puerta played for a GS title and someone like Johansson actually won.

I just realized something. As much as I wanted Djokovic to beat Nadal at the French, I have to go back and thank Nadal now, cause if he hadn't won, Fed wouldn't be #1 right now.

Indeed.

I think about 80% of people in this thread support Federer, so I certainly felt alone in supporting Murray.

Crazy that Serena wins singles AND doubles....AGAIN.....with her SISTER! lol

Williams domination.

Marray sounds like a joke someone would tell about this event, preferably in an Irish or Scottish accent.

"Did ye' hear about ol' Marray? He won it all, I hear."

"Andy fin'lly came though, did he?"

"No, was Jonathan...in the doubles."

"Aye."

You know what?

Provided the man on the other side of the net is not Federer, I'm gonna support Murray to win a Slam from now on. His end speech was so genuine and touching you'll have to be pretty much a monster not to be moved by it.

Provided his opponent is not Federer, of course. I will always support the old man to the bitter end :)

I don't know whether to be amazed or sad by this. Really, has the WTA fell into such a level that the Williams Sister can just stroll on whatever court they wish to snort and then win? No resistance at all? At least when it comes to Federer and the top boys in the ATP they can be dangerously challenged by the rest of the field (as evidenced by Nadal defeated by Rosol or couple of times Federer/Djokovic/Murray had a competitive match against their opponent)

I just realized something. As much as I wanted Djokovic to beat Nadal at the French, I have to go back and thank Nadal now, cause if he hadn't won, Fed wouldn't be #1 right now.

That, then the Nadal defeat against Rosol, and then the act of God itself when rain poured on the final so it became indoors... everything in the universe seemed to have conspired to make Federer number one again :)

Federer is the most ruthless and brutal champion in all of tennis. Murray will have to snatch up a major soon before players like Young, Rosol and Goffin keep them all to themselves.

Ugh...I hate how the top headline on ESPN.com is Yankees v. Red Sox instead of this historic Wimbledon final. Those teams play each other like 20 times a year...sigh.
