pretty hard to be considered good when one player wins everything don't you agree? who knows how many slams they would have gotten if federer didn't stand in their way all the time.

Roger was clearly the superior player today opposed to a Murray who once again shows that he is simply not ready yet for a slam win! Great job getting to the final though, maybe in a few years he will take one home! (He would have lost just the same against a fit Nadal or Djoker)
As for Federer himself, i didn't think he could do this but he did, so congrats are in order! I will say however that Djoker was not fit/himself or else Fed likely would not have survived the semis... That's ok though, if he had one more slam in him it was the Wimbledon one and he did it, i will be VERY astounded if he wins another slam though after this (except maybe Wimbledon 2013 depending on the odds lol)

Except Sampras could switch up his game when he wanted. He was an exceptional serve and volleyer but the dude has a scary baseline game as well.

Who did Sampras beat in his prime? The best player he beat was Agassi, who was not in the league or Rafa or Nadal. Who else was there, Chang? Old Becker, Edberg or Connors (made it to the semis when he was like 100)?
There were no a time greats Sampras was beating in his prime. The closest was Agassi.
But neither Sampras nor Fed can choose their competition.

sampras slam winning span was way longer giving others more time to be considered good. federer sweeped everybody ending a few careers in between.
not even sampras thinks he's better than federer. federer would have a field day against him on clay.

He loves the game, and has said many times he would like to play til 35. He's 31 next month, so that is only 4 more years. Training, nutrition, and smart scheduling will allow him to play to 35 as long an injury doesn't get in the way.
To me it doesn't matter if he doesn't go out on top of the rankings, Sampras, Agassi etc. etc. didn't go out ranked #1. I bet these young guys wish he would hang it up though, 17 slams......unbelievable.
He would've had 3 slams last year if not for Djoker 2.0.

Don't completely agree with this. He usually got upset early in the French. Rogers consistency on all surfaces is what puts him above Sampras in my mind. No Nadal on clay and Roger could easily have 20+ slams as he's been the second best clay court player.

There is a difference between obviously being GOAT which Federer now IS, as there are simple FACTS to demonstrate that he is and being the best tennis player active right NOW in this stage. Given that Fed, Novak and Nadal are all 100% fit right now, i will guarantee that the best player of the three is NOT Federer anymore nowadays!
Overall though he's GTEW in my mind though (greatest there ever WAS not is )

Nadal usually takes the end of the year off. He loses weird matches to scrubs in the early rounds z.
The exception was that 2 year period when he was on top.
But I would not count him out. He almost beat Novak at the Aussie.
Fed hasn't beat Nadal in a GS in ages.

Chang was good. Just not as good as Agassi or Sampras. Chang = David Ferrer of his era but at least Chang won a slam. Hah
