Far from it. It has a handful of scenes with minor horroresque suspense, but that is it. There is no real gore to speak of. I too am generally too "pussy" for horror movies, but this movie didn't phase me one bit.
It also helps that this movie doesn't have closet/jump scares, for which I was very thankful.
eh, there's quite a bit of bad stuff happening to people physically in prometheus. alien doesn't show much outside of kane's death. it's probably the least gory of all the alien franchise movies.
i think prometheus's level of gore isn't too intense except for one scene in particular. i can't really describe it without giving away too much, but if you don't like seeing deep cuts being pulled open, you might be really put off by one scene in particular.

Prometheus isn't scary at all, because of its complete lack of tension or suspense. It's just a bloated action flick with high production values. The way it's written and acted made it impossible for me to suspend my disbelief even for a moment, with the exception of the opening sequence.
If this was in response to my post I meant it just because they're far better movies and because Prometheus kind of ruins the space jockeys so it's much better to see Alien first. Not because they're necessary to follow Prometheus or something.
It really isn't. The only positives I have for it are that it's pretty as fuck and I liked David. In pretty much every other way the movie is a mess. I was hyped for it but that doesn't mean I can't step back and see it for what it is.
Man, sure is difficult to be a Prometheus lover. Watched it again for the fourth time, checked out the whole documentary/making off (3h50) and I just love it and find it fascinating, have no qualms whatsoever with the movie, just wish it were longer and that they made some scenes longer.
By the way, deleted scenes are all pretty good but the explanation as to why they were cut makes a lot of sense everytime, we get some glimpses of the editing room with Ridley and Scalia in the documentary, fascinating stuff.
I've seen the movies, but so long ago that I only remember minor clips. Also, since Prometheus is a prequel I want to watch that first before diving into Alien/s again. Also, even though Alien/s has its share of gore (I've seen resurrection recently [don't kill me]), the GFX doesn't really make it look scary. It's different for a 2012 movie if you know what I mean.

I understand one has more special features but all I care about it delted scenes. So if the one for $20 has the same amount then im just going to get that one. So, do they both have the same amount of deleted scenes or does one has more??

Aliens has zero horror factor to me anymore. As a kid some of the stuff was scary, but it always felt like an action movie. Alien has some creepy stuff even in todays standards though. Nothing gut wrenching.
Agreed, Alien/Aliens (that I've seen again before Prometheus) might have been scary or gory back in the day, but not today. I feel much more tension in Prometheus, and it's IMO more bloody.
well what does this mean? "neogaf hype"? What's the distinction between that and normal hype? the film was a sci-fi blockbuster from a popular director, many people were hyped. even outside of gaf, crazy I know! there was probably more discussion on GAF than there was within some hypothetical homogenous group of people, but that doesn't somehow make the form of hype lesser. neogaf's user base is naturally more prone to enjoying science fiction film in general.
I just find it silly when people make this distinction between neogaf and real life, as if events that occur on neogaf are native to this freaking website. no. that is not how things work. neogaf provides a concentration of opinions, but it's not walled off from the outside world.
furthermore, replace "neogaf" with any goddamn site and you've got a rant that still works. the world isn't divided up into independent sections that allow us to ignore events and explain things away.

Agree. Alien is creepy, but most everything is off-screen, besides Kane obviously.

They should have made the engineers the bad guys for most of the film. They could have been just as creepy as the Alien was back in the day. Giant humanoids with babyfaces are fucking nightmare inducing to me.

No. I can already imagine how horrible the movie could've been with humans versus engineers all guns cracking. Now the engineers remain relatively unknown and menacing as fuck.

With skilled hands (yeah yeah) this could still be preserved. In the cut we have, the engineers are dumb brutes. If they had been given a larger role, they could have been truly menacing antagonists, yet still have a mystery to them.

Alien is easily the better horror movie but the question did specifically ask abut gore as well and I do think it's fair to say that Prometheus does in fact contain more gore which people may find disturbing if they're not too accustomed to such scenes.

you know as offensive as i find the film from a scientific standpoint its god damn fun to watch when you disengage your brain, i have to say though im not sure if everyone can do that, i mean you really need to shut off.
Yes, and here we all are waiting for the Scott Director's Cut to fix the movie, make sense of the movie a la Kingdom of Heaven. It looks like that's not we're in store for immediately, but the non-included-in-the-film deleted scenes tells me that there will be some future Cut.
Prometheus needs an added voice over to say, 'on LV-221 or whatever there's a strange atmospheric disturbance that causes life forms to become irrational, something not planned for when the Engineers set up the Death manufacturing and that causes those renegades who operate it to become convinced that they need to kill Earthlife.'
This is all to say that I was disappointed in the movie's constant flaws but liked its Big Ideas, captured in the fantastic moment when
Weyland is killed and says the Lawrence of Arabia nod, "There is nothing".
This nihilism, about the meaning of our role as intelligent life on Earth, is in keeping with Alien tradition but forms the basis of this whole prequel stuff. And I like it, I think its a valuable film lore from the Space Age, so distinct from the utopian Star Trek or the mystical Star Wars. The Alien universe says that humans don't evolve into a more ethically pure species when we take to space, in fact we muddle about in the dregs of violent and gross space.

That's because there have been newer, better versions of Blade Runner released since '82. All that later day momentum and adoration for the movie isn't so much for the original cut of the film.

many people still have no idea that Prometheus has anything to do with Alien. I actually debated to myself whether to inform my work crew members the origin of this movie or let them figure it out for themselves. It is the internet regulars that know this, and can hype themselves until it is ruined for themselves.
