Yay! Obligatory pic of my g/f and I hanging with Norm after one of his shows. He essentially did another 2 hours of standup for us and a couple friends in his hotel after a show. Greatest night ever!

Awesome story.

I really hope he comes back to NYC at some point.

I saw Norm live once and he was totally messed up on something. He would start jokes, stop them half way through, and then start another one.

Dude was charismatic enough to still make the entire show hilarious.

What?!? You hung out with Norm in his hotel room?!

Full story is way better.

I really wanted to meet Norm after the show, (I even told a bunch of friends, "I'm gonna have a drink with Norm after the show") so we hung out around the Casino where he was performing, but no sign of Norm, so we went home (g/f, room mate and myself). About an hour later my room mate gets a call from his buddy who says "Guess who I'm playing Poker with right now?" "Norm?!" "Yeah, and hey, do you guys have any ganja? Norm wants to smoke!"...of course we did, so we loaded into the old '88 Dodge Aerostar and hit the Casino. So Norm gets in the back of the Van and he's like "So, where are we going?".

We're all just awestruck and we have no idea, but it's -40 out and Norm is freezing, and he just goes "This is insane, let's just go back to my room and smoke!"...so we parked, went up to Norm's room where we smoked a few joints and he told us epic stories of Poker tournaments, meeting athletes like Jordan and the Bulls, and just lots of tales of debauchery and gambling. We were all sat in kind of semi-circle around Norm while he just stood the whole time telling us these amazing stories and jokes. At one point in the evening, Norm got a call from his manager, after hanging up the phone he just says "Damn, sounds like Artie's on the horse again". I read "Too Fat To Fish" a year or so after this, and in the epilogue Artie talks about that relapse that we were with Norm when we/he heard about...so that was pretty surreal.

So yeah, afterwards Norm wanted to go play some Poker, which I know nothing about, so we parted ways, but before we left Norm was like "Hey wait, did we get pictures? We've gotta get some pictures before you leave"...(see above). My buddies went back to the Casino and played a few hands with him before calling it a night. They said Norm was going to come back to our house to smoke a bit more after, but it was like 4:00 AM and Norm had to get up and catch a flight, so it never ended up happening. Either way...surreal stuff.

Holy SHIT.

Dude...I just...I don't even. That's the greatest story I've ever heard. Lucky bastard!

That's great. Now I know to roll up a doobie if/when I see Norm do stand up in the future.

can't put a structure on norm. It doesn't gel well with his style.

I saw him live in Anaheim. He would start a joke and halfway through he would segue into another joke. After wrapping that joke up, he'd return to the original joke. amazing.

Norm is against cannibalism.

I went to the Yankees-Mets game last night so I haven't actually gotten a chance to watch the episode yet. I can't wait to check it out tonight though obviously. I'll be streaming it from my Wii U onto my TV.

Any initial impressions?

This episode wasn't great IMO. Norm seemed fairly subdued and Fred Stoller won't shut up for half the show.

Excellent to have this back, look forward to more episodes.

Norm's always being overlooked for it but deserves a regular format. Would watch.

It did seem like Norm was more laidback and the laughs didn't quite reach the highs of previous episodes, but it was still very entertaining and this remains my favorite podcast. Maybe it'll take a little while for the show to get its groove back.

Also, the set is smaller and more intimate now, and the ads are pre-recorded... so some of the changes are definitely intentional.

I like Norm a lot and the previous podcast episodes were mostly good, but I didn't really care for the Ray Romano one. Not too many laughs throughout, Fred Stoller's skype call went on way too long and was just kind of awkward, and there seemed to be even more commercials throughout the episode.
Hoping it gets better again.
