Funny last I heard Bernie was beating Bush in Florida 43 to 39 or something like that. Great to see you guys back to square one though: Bernie can't win a general election. That worked so well the first time.

You have to realize that A. It is early. To be fair that applies to Hillary too. However B. Bernie has not been scrutinized yet by the media or his opponents Democratic or Republican. C. If he got into a general election, his opponent whoever that will be will have massive amounts of money, opposition research and SuperPACs. D. Bernie has said he will not take the SuperPAC money. E. The result of these things will make those numbers change. F. Hillary has the advantage of having run before and all of her skeletons out early by then.

I expect if Sanders won the nomination, every mention of his name until the election would be prefaced by the word "socialist".

I still remember his delusional proclamations of Kucinich's inevitable victory in '08, only now it's a million times worse because Sanders is doing way better than Kucinich ever did.

Some people like me have never heard of him despite some being here just as long as he has. I don't think he is a troll. I think he genuinely believes in Sanders even if it is profound devotion.

It's not iconic. The first time I saw you use it I didn't understand why you used it at all. That's why I randomly fired it back at you for no good reason, just like the way you used it.

This is iconic.

Learn the difference, I guess?
JFK is like the Lana Del Rey of presidents - bad at what he does but got by on his looks.

You guys are too stressed out. It's Saturday. Get some whiskey and relax.

BTW Lana del Ray sucks

I'm sitting here giggling. This is much more comedic than what's on TV.

{*goes to google Lana del Ray*}
Okay, confession: I can't tell any of these pop people apart. They all look the same. I googled that Katy Perry person a months ago; if you had told me that they were the same person, and that Katy had recently changed her name to Lana, I would've believed you.

That's because he can't win a general election.

Remember when people on here were freaking out about Scott Walker? I kept saying over and over again: Wait until people find out about him. He'll crumble. Look at what is happening: people are getting to know him and his views, and he's crumbling.

Bernie Sanders is no different. Whether you want to admit it or not, the word "socialist" has such a negative connotation attached to it that a man who is a self-avowed socialist stands absolutely zero chance of winning a presidential election in today's USA.

Bernie "winning" GE polls means nothing. Once the negative ads started and "socialist" was attached to everything he said/did, it would be over--maybe even a 300+ electoral victory for the GOP competitor.

Don't let PopGAF hear you say that :lol

For real though, I agree. If it wasn't for the haircut there'd be no difference.

Also his stance on gun control will hurt him in the primary. Especially with a new mass killing every week, it seems. Hillary is going to hit him hard with it and do some real damage as a result.

I hope it was not at me lol.

Hillary going after Bernie on guns? absolutely. Forcefully with negative ads? doubt it. The media would rally against her. She has to lay that difference in a non attacking way.

I agree with this. Sanders supporters think he can simply explain away his brand of socialism, but I think that's vastly overestimating the intelligence of the electorate. Ads with Sanders proclaiming himself a socialist would be absolutely lethal

Nah, I liked the reactions to the Bernie-as-FDR.

And if Hillary went onto the gun issue, she'd be wise to copy Bernie's style, which I really do admire him on: he brings a topic up, states his position, and lets us, the listeners, come to our own conclusions. His stances speak for themselves. He does this without mentioning her, and lets others make the inevitable comparisons.

Hillary could bring-up her stances on gun control and not say a single word about Bernie. But his position would inevitably come up from other sources, and it would register in listeners' minds.

Of course she won't use ads, she has no need to spend that kind of money. All she needs is a good debate performance and the right question, which given what Dems find important she will get at some point. All she really needs is for Bernie to answer truthfully and push a little bit to make sure it sticks.

What does Trump remind Political Historians of?

Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and the modern Republican Party
Sean Wilentz, professor of American history at Princeton University

Donald Trump a populist? Wrong. Trump has nothing to do with Andrew Jackson or Huey Long. He has everything to do with Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and the modern Republican Party. Trump is a Mixmaster blend of the right-wing Republican politics of the past 50 years. He literally recycles Nixon’s demagogy about “the silent majority” and Reagan’s fantasy call to “make America great again.” Those GOP politics became radicalized along the way, not least through three decades of Fox News’ incitement as inflammatory faux-reality TV. Trump is both the creature and exploiter of that radicalism, cynicism and kiss-my-ass bullying culture. He’s a dreamboat all the more attractive for his snarling vulgarity.

Jeb Bush’s family got ahead by manipulating the radicalism and extremism at seeming arms length thanks to the dirty tricks of Lee Atwater and Karl Rove, but things have gotten out of hand and now Jeb is clueless. Willie Horton and the Swift-boaters can’t ride to Jeb’s rescue. Trump, not he, embodies what the GOP has become. Jeb whines that Trump isn’t a real Republican because he was once something of a Democrat. Who does that remind Republicans of? Reagan was a has-been entertainer who played the role of a citizen-politician. He rose to the White House on smiley supply-side make-believe and tough talk about cracking down on welfare queens. Republicans have openly longed for another version of Ronald Reagan but secretly hoped for one with the viciousness of Richard Nixon. At last they’ve finally found the object of their desire in Donald Trump, thrilled by his crackdown on anchor babies and awed by his Great Wall of Mexico. “Go back to Univision!”: That’s Trump—and today’s GOP.

Beautiful. I couldn't have said it better myself.

So what can we expect from Erasure once Bernie gets trounced in the primaries?

Having never encountered his unique brand of lunacy before, I'm interested to know. Will he just mysteriously disappear? Will he come up with a laundry list of excuses? Or will he acknowledge how profoundly wrong he was?

(That last one seems unlikely.)

It's actually kind of a shame that Bernie labels himself a Democratic Socialist and made it a point to be an Independent. He could have kept his positions the same and his issue emphasis the same and just been seen as a very liberal Democrat of the Vermont variety. He could have avoided the socialist scarlet letter, all that would really be different is a tweaked answer or two. A small lie or a half truth perhaps, but no big deal.

"Are you a socialist modeled on the Scandanavian countries?"

"No, but that doesn't mean there's not a lot of things other countries do well, including the Scandanavian countries, that the U.S. can stand to learn a great deal from."

Sanders got an 8% rating from the NRA in 2012. 8%. His lifetime score was 0% as of 2002.

He's for banning semi-automatics, background checks and extending restrictions to gun shows.

He has the same 100% Brady Score as Hillary does.

She's just had the luxury of not having to actually vote on anything for a decade.

Attacking him on the gun issue would only be a sign of desperation.

Since you've been here for six years and never encountered him until recently that one is most likely. We don't get many new people here from the gaming side.

I've never been worried about Walker. Guy has nothing to stand on but failed policies.

People freaking out about him in the past just goes to show how off base their predictions are. I was not one of them.
