Xenoblade Chronicles X: April 10th Doll Presentation [up: video with subtitles]

Yeah, that's what I suspected. Not sure I can fully enjoying playing in these Dolls if I know the gas gauge is constantly moving toward empty.

I guess if we didn't have to worry about fuel, we'd never leave the dolls. Maybe there's a late game doll that doesn't require fuel. Knowing how I play games though, I likely won't even use the doll that much because I'll be constantly thinking "but what if I need it for something else coming up, I better save the fuel!" lol

Sorry if these have been answered, I'm just catching up lol, but this isn't true. There's only a few situations that actually use your fuel: flying, and using arts. If you're walking you won't expend any fuel, same with driving in the vehicle mode. If you get out of the Doll it'll recharge it's 'fuel' automatically too. I think the game will be pretty liberal and unrestrictive with the fuel though for the most part.

Looks like I’m not the only one, and most of the 31,331 Japanese viewers that watched today’s awesome mecha-focused broadcast on Nico Nico agree.

Nico Nico is banned?

The bundle sold out on Amazon following the presentation as well.

Did they at all discuss how battles will be balanced to accommodate dolls? e.g. if you hop in a doll, will you just stomp all over normal enemies, but then be capable of going up against the bigger ones?

It's been years since I've played Xenogears, but I seem to recall that you could hop into a Gear in regular character battles (unless the story forbade it) and completely thrash the enemies.

Yes but only for some missions named : SQUAD
You can still do them in solo.
Those missions are guild specific so only guildmates can do them (I think?)

If you want more information please watch the video I poste above.

Those are missions with specific objectives, what i'm wondering is if we can free-roam around with 4 people, randomly encounter enemies and fight them if we want.

From the Siliconera article it seems like Wels is one of the models you start your customization from, but looking at the photo it doesn't seem to resemble Weltall all that much:
http://www.siliconera.com/2015/04/10/xenoblade-chronicles-x-details-different-types-dolls-fight/

According to the article you first choose whether you'll go with a Light, Medium, or Heavy Doll, then have a choice of base models to start customization from (the others shown in the video being "Formula", "Urban", "Inferno", "Mastema", and "Amdusias"), with the models having different transformations - Urban turns into a bike, Inferno into a 4-wheeler, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised to find small references or call-backs to earlier Xeno-games in X, though actually I don't remember there being references to the -Gears or -Saga games in Xenoblade Chronicles.

From a little Googling, it seems that religous references are alive and well in XCX as in other Xeno games. Mastema is an angel in Jewish mythology, while King Amdusias is one of the 72 Goetia demons (Megami Tensei fans will see a lot of familiar names in that page :D). There was an angel in Bayonetta 2 called Urban or Urbane, but I can't find any real-life references.

Back to Wels, I wonder if Takahashi just likes the word, as there seems to be no particular connection between XG's zombie-mutants, XCX's Doll, and/or real life uses of the world like the aforementioned fish... In any case, as pointed out, it bears no etymological connection to the word that gives its name to the Gear my handle is based on.

That's rather overly lopsided from my experience with NicoNico, Monolith/Nintendo sure know how to WoW an audience. I wish such a game could be the thing to mark something of turn-a-round for the WiiU in Japan but, alas, the ship has sailed.

I dunno man, I could see it moving out quite a few systems amongst the more hardcore gamers in Japan. Unfortunately though it's more like the ship has sailed on consoles in Japan overall more than anything.

I only watched about half, but wow it looks gorgeous. The mech designs are great, and being able to customize them (plus the player) will be awesome. I bet I'll even be able to find a moeface that looks OK somehow.

Dunno about the combat demonstrations, but Xenoblade made a similar system work well so I guess anything is possible. Perhaps it's just a matter of actually playing it, rather than viewing it.

Of course, the ship has sailed on in general. XCX will move the needle, enough of the bundles have sold out to move the WiiU out of its current rut but that will be fleeting.

This is an absolute monster of a game, like its predecessor, and I am happy that Monolith has free reign to make a thing like this in spite of everything.

Hmm, OK. Hopefully it's like you say. That sounds reasonable.

So basically all the best aspects of the doll? :p

Riding around in the car-like thing will be nice if it doesn't require fuel.

The story was original from a banned site.

you are allowed to say what that banned site is btw. we're not talking about state secrets or discriminatory slurs :D

Ah okay. Would you be able to give the title and I could google it? Or is that against the TOS?

http://www.gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=250881

original news post came from dual shockers.

Did they at all discuss how battles will be balanced to accommodate dolls? e.g. if you hop in a doll, will you just stomp all over normal enemies, but then be capable of going up against the bigger ones?

Takahashi mentioned that in the Famitsu interview already. Sometimes it will be advantageous to be on-foot. The video also had a section explaining that you get some stat bonuses if you mix your party with dolls/on-foot characters (i think it was that +Defense indicator).

Hmm, OK. Hopefully it's like you say. That sounds reasonable.

You could see that in the video btw. The fuel only drained during flight or mid-battle that's why you never even saw the gauge when they were driving.

Catching monsters also seems like to restore your fuel.
Edit : double checked and it does.

I replaced my New XL's SD card today with a 32GB card. I took the original card out of the system, put it into my computer, and copied everything on the card onto my desktop.

Then I put the new card in the computer, copied everything onto there, and put the new card in the system.

I was under the impression that when I turned the system back on it should look exactly the same as it did. It did to an extent, all of the default system software icons were where I had placed them, and I bunch of them were in a folder I had made. But all my games were gone.

I'm redownloading them right now but I'm worried that my save data will be gone. I spent an hour running around the city accepting quests and stuff, really hope I don't have to start over.

I have never been a nintendo fan; never owned any of their console and never been interested in their IP, albeit my acknowledgement of the their commendable work. However, I am now very keen on getting a WiiU in the near future for this game. My only fear is how useful the hardware would be if all I am ever genuinely interested in is this one game.

Yea you're definitely in the wrong thread here.

Though still, make sure you did copy absolutely EVERYTHING from the original card and then make sure that EVERYTHING (same amount of files!!) is on the new card.

If you really cannot bring yourself to care about any of the other plentiful fantastic games you'd have access to, then you'll at least get one game out of it to potentially keep you busy for multiple hundreds of hours.

Sell it on ebay or craigslist and get most of your money back. It's the best way. I move around with consoles all the time, a lot of times I'll even make money.

It's okay to be unsure.
You can wait and see if there aren't any (cheap) games that might interest you too.

My disinterest isn't born of malice, rather the fact that I never grew up with Nintendo and many nintendo fans can be rather pedantic snobs which had driven me away in the past.

Xenoblade Chronicles looks absolutely astounding with regards to scope and scale and Bayonetta looks equally enticing (even though I am not good at it).

Unfortunately, I rarely sell either games & am a collector of systems; consequently, I choose carefully. Once and if I get a WiiU, I won't be able to sell it.

Remember that you could also play any and all Wii games on it. Meaning you'd get the chance to play the previous game, too. Or a bunch of other stuff that doesn't require any Nintendo fandom experience, association or whatever. :)

If you throw out some criteria someone would probably compile you a list of potential candidates to add to your hypothetical lone Xenoblade X "collection." :D

This ONE game will be more than worth the price in blood. If you use Netflix the interface for that is really good on the Wii U, and if your family gets together on the couch in front of the TV together the U is really useful too, since you can stream videos etc to the TV, OR you can use the GamePad while the TV does it's own thing. It's a neat system, and you can always buy some xenoblade stickers, maybe even import a Xenoblade X bundle box from Japan (https://sickr.files.wordpress.com/2015/03/xenoblade_chronicles_x_wii_u_bundle.jpg) and then sell your U and the game as a bundle for $1500 on kijiji/ebay.

Edit: I usually am highly selective too, and really never sell games/systems I own.. that said I do skip tons of games, and really only play a handful, but I get my worth out of them. Xenoblade X will be worth it for me, and I would say that it's definitely a game you should experience, and then let the system itself entice you. Miiverse is kinda cool since you can see artwork from various games and see what games other people are playing. I don't really have much to add, but if you are a collector I feel like you'll fall in LOVE with the Wii U after some time, and Xenoblade X looking as amazing as it is, I'm sure you'll love the system EVEN if it's only for Xenoblade X.

Its a great media center. The browser is top-notch, and gives you a great YTube/Netflix/Anime machine, so if you won't ever use it for anything but XCX, it has some auxiliary use.

Thank you kindly for reminding me of the backward compatibility. All of a sudden I am reminded of SW Rogue Squadron. Zelda is another franchise that has always piqued my interest. That said, my current backlog is around 30 games....

Wow, that import looks gorgeous; with regards to other aspects you mentioned, I, unfortunately, am a student and even then my family isn't what you'd expect them to be. Back home, I have 58" tv all to myself any time I want to which isn't connected to anything other than gaming devices; my parents are not well enough acquainted with the tv to make regular use of it. Unfortunately, I won't be seeing much of it till end of 2017.
