Deadline said:
Following weeks of pickup buzz, Seth Rogen just announced on Twitter that AMC has picked up drama pilaot Preacher to series. “Preacher is coming to AMC,” he wrote, posting what appears to be key art for the show. I hear the order, expected to be officially unveiled shortly, is for 10 episodes. No one could be reached for comment but word is that the network is planning a May 2016 launch for the series.

Preacher is based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s cult 1990s comic. The show centers on Jesse Custer, a conflicted preacher in a small Texas town who merges with a creature that has escaped from heaven and develops the ability to make anyone do anything he says. Along with his ex-girlfriend, Tulip, and an Irish vampire named Cassidy, the three embark on a journey to literally find God.

Cast

Dominic Cooper as Jesse

Ruth Negga as Tulip

Joseph Gilgun as Cassidy

Ian Colletti as Eugene "Arseface" Root

W. Earl Brown as Hugo Root

Tom Brooke as Fiore

The cast also includes:

  • Elizabeth Perkins as Vyla Quinncannon
  • Lucy Griffiths as Emily
  • Jamie Anne Allman as Betsy Schenck
  • Derek Wilson as Donny Schenck

This is like when Watchmen was coming out back in 09. Like, I see that this is a thing that is actually being made, there's no way around it, and my brain still can't quite process that there is about to be a live-action adaptation of it.

It's just so fucking WEIRD.

I still have no idea how they're gonna pull off the absurdly inappropriate content in this without butchering the source material. Casting is on point though.

Should they bring it back, I think AMC would be smart to pair it with a more popular show. (or maybe that's precisely what they're doing? :O)
Yeah, that would make sense. Humans struggled a bit too, so a bigger premiere that have some draw, in addition to their prestige show, should be a good combo for Sunday.

Ruth Negga is an interesting choice. Would like to see how she handles covering her accent. I want Proinsias jokes too.

In my ideal show the Saint of Killers would go to Josh Brolin or JK Simmons.

Sweet, I'm down to watch. Read the series back in college, trying to remember all the crazy stuff that happens. I do remember (series finale spoilers)
God .
being a prick though. Not sure how it's all going to play out on TV to be honest.

Cool. Really hope it turns out well.

There's no chance of that though. We'll never see stuff like Herr Starr's dick head let alone crucially important stuff like the retarded pure blood descendant of Christ. And Arseface looks a bit shit which is unacceptable in a world where that HBO test exists.

Sorry to be so negative. I really wanted this on a channel that will let it be itself.

the book is still in my top 5 comic series, and i hope this isn't complete shit

honestly a lot of the details so far haven't been good and im trying to set my expectations to about Powers levels here

Doesn't he? To be true to the comic he should have been cast as all the characters.

hahaha goddamn
for real though, dillion stepped it by alamo or so...really got the minimal thing down

So fuckin' pumped for this!

They really have to go guns blazing and dwelve into the comic book series' taboos. Even if it makes waves, if the quality is there, it'll just be more promotion.

Doubt he'd be in the first season.

Why? He appears in vol 1 and is one of the most important characters in the story. In fact his story starts because of the opening events of the comic.

It would be impossible for him to not be in season 1.

No Herr Starr or Saint of Killers in that casting. They need to nail the Saint, guy needs to look scary as fuck.

A no holds barred version of The Boys on Netflix or HBO would be too damm good.

Paired with the right creative team of course.

There's no way in hell they'd go as deep as Ennis did with the series.

Which is, of course, why I love it so damned much. He really went for the jugular.

Herr Starr can be season two if they ever make it that far.

The weird thing is seeing the name Quincannon in the season 1 credits. Just how much are they going to change the story?

at last, for christ's sake
yeah, I'll be waiting if the retarded inbred descendant of Jesus is in it, that or adaptation already becomes worthless

seriously doubt they'll have the balls though

Isn't this the show which AMC is changing everything, so that almost nothing of it is based on the comics? Didn't they want to make it into a crime show with a new crime every week?

Also, is Preacher by DC Comics?

No, that's Lucifer. I don't think that's AMC, I think that was Fox.

And yeah, Preacher is Vertigo, which is part of DC.

Michael Shannon has to be Herr Starr. He already looks like he came straight out of a page drawn by Steve Dillon.

Wants to outlaw technological innovation.
So question...since the guy can make someone do anything they want to...where's the drama in it?

Mads Mikkelsen for Herr starr.

These are also both great suggestions.

It's more of a comedy then a drama. But most of the drama comes from the character development moreso then any feeling of danger towards Custer.

Wow they nailed that Cassidy casting.

I can't believe this is actually happening. It's going to be so censored up, even on AMC but hopefully they can still make it interesting.
