Yesterday was 290k on the main stream by the Squid Sister live.

Also nice Kinki, broke away and gained a huge lead there.

This is bigger than Smash... lol. Like, by a lot.

Some smash bros tournaments last year broke 300k viewers across all streams if i recall correctly
but yeah that was at their peak and this seems to be going even further so its probably going to peak much higher than that

Oh shoot Regen is playing in this tournament? I see their clan tag in ranked every once in awhile, they're apparently one of the strongest teams in competitive Splatoon in Japan.

Damn nice Kanto, made it through

Echolocator and at the mercy of the E-liter lol

So how good of a spectator sport is it?

It's interesting to see how teams put together what they have and pull through in situations. In this game mode it's possible to come back in the last minute or for a heated match to end in a 0.2% difference like just recently.

Others mention the downsides.

it's not bad but still needs work put in methinks. UI needs to display what team is playing all the time for starters and who the camera is following at any given moment. The 4x4 view is impressive but also impossible to actually see anything in.

Nicovideo also needs to double the bitrate... Triple it for premium users ;//

I agree. When they do the 3 screen showing one player from each team and the map, having a name underneath the 2 player screens would be great. And they do switch to different players during that so the names should change with it. It's a little tweak but overall it would be beneficial to the viewer. And there's enough room to fit a name too.

For those that do not know some of the teams, here are the 3 I follow and I favored to win or do well in the tournament.

Hokkaido Team Bell: 21 Members in their Team, they sent 2 teams for the Hokkaido qualifiers, Team B lost first round, Team A won.

Chubu eSR イカサーのゴリラ, team that represents the Japanese eSports New Website. Push, the girl with blond bob cut was crying when they lost.

Kyushu .Regen A strong team full of internet trolls.

Other teams are active on twitter and ikazok and other places but I don't follow them so if I find a webpage for them I will link for those who want to learn more and follow these teams..
