AKA 'I mean these things were racist, but we didn't have to worry about people calling it out! Things were so much better then!'

I mean, even if we "got over" his racist shit. What does Clint say in defense of Trump disparaging veterans the the military. His boneheaded policies? His shitty business practices?

A guy from a generation that killed black people in public just for being alive in their city or being seen with a white woman anywhere is telling us people now are pussies.

The only Clint movie I ever saw was Gran Torino and I always figured he wasn't acting in that movie

When I grew up, those things weren’t called racist.”

Sure it was, white people just didn't see non-whites as people so they didn't care.

I find it hard to get worked up about things older people say when they're not politicians. Things were just different back then. We'll all be out of touch one day too.
While I don't condone his point of view, I pretty much agree with this. There will come a time when the people getting worked up about this are the ones being castigated for their views by a younger generation.

Instead of getting annoyed about it I prefer to look at it as a sign of progress. We are a product of our time, whether we like it or not.

So because of his social stance his movies are no longer good? You know it is possible to still enjoy his movies and disagree with his opinion. It doesn't have to be one or the other.

A lot of people I'm America consider being racist dropping n bombs and being a member of the Klan, extremes, I think what he is saying is, almost everything and anything can be considered racist now adays. Things that the American public have zero clue about. That's why everyone thinks the world is too "PC"

In today's standards I want to say a good 50% of people are racist and just don't realize it.

You say that, but then he explicitly cites an actual racist thing Trump did:

He added, “You know, he’s a racist now because he’s talked about this judge. And yeah, it’s a dumb thing to say. I mean, to predicate your opinion on the fact that the guy was born to Mexican parents or something. He’s said a lot of dumb things. So have all of them. Both sides. But everybody — the press and everybody’s going, ‘Oh, well, that’s racist,’ and they’re making a big hoodoo out of it. Just f—king get over it. It’s a sad time in history.”

So is Trump not being "PC" all the sudden?

"We’re really in a pussy generation. Everybody’s walking on eggshells. We see people accusing people of being racist and all kinds of stuff. When I grew up, those things weren’t called racist.”

Yeah, things were pretty great for white people back in the 60s who wanted to dump on anyone and everything without any repercussions.

So?

The loss of privilege is not an attack on whiteness. It's not "soft" to aspire to be better than the Jim Crow South.

When he grew up...

I just can't believe he doesn't find a problem with that mindset, considering the era he grew up in.

People who are surprised by this have not been watching Clint Eastwood's terrible award-winning movies! Literally the text of all of them is that white men are great and everybody else should stay in their lane, also I guess Mystic River has a child molester for some reason.

I can't stop giggling at the article title being censored, p---y generation confirmed :)

I've said some stupid shit in my 40 odd years but nothing at this level of stupid.

Considering how much Clint loves veterans and all that jazz liking trump after the stuff he's said is fucking bonkers.
But BOTH SIDES ARE THE SAME THO

'pussy generation'

We have to work harder to get less and pay more for everything in a less secure, more competitive job market. And we do that while having to quickly adapt to a rapidly changing and more complex world.

He has some balls to call us the pussy generation.

Pretty much. The problem is if you tell old people this they will get pissed.

I like Million Dollar Baby and Gran Torino Clint Eastwood. He's a cranky old bastard, but he learns valuable lessons about racism, sexism, friendship, and human rights. So why didn't any of that stick?
He's an excellent actor. It's all make believe in front of the camera. It's kind of like how Leonardo Dicapreo can play a racist slave owner but not feel that way in real life. But the opposite.

I actually didn't know anything about Eastwood's political affiliation. I've seen some of his movies and really like him as an actor. I didn't realize his beliefs were this far out of touch with modern times, then I realized he is 86 years old and grew up in a completely different era. I guess it doesn't excuse him, but some people are just a product of their generation.

I'm not sure being old is much of an excuse. There are plenty of old people that are of a completely different mind.

Aside from that people shouldn't get over it. What if Trump call some foreign head of state something offensive? That really reflects badly.

Clint, that stuff was always racist. It's just that the majority of the population didn't care. Now most of us actually have things like "empathy" and "respect" for minorities.

yeah you are right Clint back in your generation 20 of your fellow klansmen rode around with your hoods on to hang and castrate lone black men. You guys were so tough.

Never knew Clint was like that, always the possibility being that old. What a dick.
I generally always give old people a pass. Not that I am giving his statements a pass, just the person saying them.

I know a really old attorney who was actually part of the civil rights movement in the 60s and voted and donated generously to the democrats for as long as I have known him, but is now praising Trump. I would never call him a racist because he was never that, but now he is parroting all sorts of horrible shit from Trump. He sadly has all sorts of mental issues. It is actually kind of terrifying to watch someone become someone else entirely as their brain starts to fail them in old age.

I think the real pussies here are the people who can't have their precious world view from decades ago shattered.

Your political candidate of choice is a racist and so are you for supporting him, Eastwood, get over it.

Eastwood has the Mel Gibson thing, on a more controlled scale.

Both were long-time closet, elitist racists.

It's just that Eastwood waited until his Hollywood career was over to let it out.

Gibson went on a binge in his prime and let it out way too early, crushing his career and reputation while he still had some years ahead of him.

Let's put this in perspective: Clint Eastwood is an 86 year old, immensely wealthy white man. He was already in his 30's by the time the Civil Rights movement really took off.

In fact, Eastwood said, “We’re really in a pussy generation. Everybody’s walking on eggshells. We see people accusing people of being racist and all kinds of stuff. When I grew up, those things weren’t called racist.”
This is the best justification for racism I have ever seen. 'Hey! We were always racist!'. Simply amazing. That anyone could say that sentence and not immediately see how wrong it is is beyond hilarious.

It's surprising how many people feel like not being able to openly use racial slurs is "walking on egg shells."

DId anyone else read Double Down: Game Change 2012? From the same authors who wrote Game Change about the 2008 election (that became the HBO movie).

One of the best behind-the-scenes chapters was about the RNC in 2012 and how over the moon Romney and his camp were about Clint Eastwood wanting to speak. They thought they had scored the biggest celebrity endorsement one could possibly get (because they're all old white guys I guess, I can't remember the last time Clint Eastwood was relevant) and were just ecstatic waiting for the speech and the huge bump he'd give them. They tried to go over what Eastwood was going to speak about but he wouldn't go into it and they brushed it off like "Who cares! He's a legend! Clint Eastwood does what Clint Eastwood wants and who are we to try and tell him what to do?"

And then he went out and did the chair bit and everyone is sitting behind the scenes watching the Titanic sink, completely mortified at what is going on and the tweets and social media reaction happening in real-time. The chapter ends with Romney's campaign manager literally vomiting into a pail in the green room.

That helps to frame the "those things weren't racist when I was growing up", but in all his years he should have picked up on the fact that they are racist, that it's wrong to say them, and maybe you ought to act like the better person and expect your desired commander-in-chief to do so as well.

Fuck off, Clint.

Actually, I'm curious as to whether or not there are any public statements from Eastwood from back in the 60's regarding the Civil Rights movement.
