Comic Nerds, can we talk about how messed up Marvel's Celestial Madonna arc was?

Fiction is shit at pregnancy in general, because it won't let children age and grow up. TV shows don't last long enough and comics have sliding timelines. Genre fiction just lets writers use their very worst instincts to write themselves out of the hole and we end up with this nonsense.

But there's definitely a high point in the 90s of just... what? About pregnancy in particular. Things got weird. Weird.

Some of these comics look straight fucking trash but there is a part of me that feels compelled to read them.

Like I kind of want to hate read them.

Mantra was actually a pretty fun book just like a lot of the pre-Marvel Ultraverse titles. It sucks we may never see any of those characters again.

For a really messed up comic involving a pregnancy, look no further than this gem:

They graphically depict the birth and aftermath in the comic. I was a bit surprised the first time I read that issue.

Remember when Her got rejected by Adam Warlock and decided to infect a bunch of male heroes with her spawn and ham them fight it out?

I should just drop out of university and become a comic book writer. You obviously don't need any qualifications

almost all of these were written 20-30 years ago. Modern day comic writers are leagues better. It's a very competitive space, creatively.

So this is your "comics have a weird thing about impregnating women" thread huh?

Yeah shit's bizarre AF, comics writers have issues.

I really need to do a Pym Family Tree thread later. Maybe a Summers/Grey one as well.

This Vision cover isn't even the start of the full one:

I need someone to tell me about the fact that there apparently is some sort of Dog-Vision.

Also, nice to see Marvel Acknowledge Victor Mancha.

Spider-woman's pregnancy happened like, a year ago and was still weird as shit. She had the baby in a skrull hospital in the middle of a black hole surrounded by aliens.

It's weird.

Chris Claremont and Mark Millar could put some therapist's kids through college

I don't even wanna know what weird perversions go through Mark Millar's head.

I read Ultimatum, that's enough.

Dr.Doom knows what Sue Richards neither regions look like, still think Valerie's birth is weirder

Ultimatum was Loeb.

Valeria lived an entire life as an adult before she turned herself back into a fetus to be reborn.

Shit's weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeird

have they revealed the father yet? I only ever read spider women when there's a silk gwen crossover.

No idea, I don't read spider books anymore really, picked the last one up because my boy got to come back for a little bit
#TeamBen
but I'm pretty sure it'll be something stupid for the sake of plot contrivance "OH IT'S ACTUALLY VON DOOMS KID OH NO WHAT A WACKY MIXUP" or some other stupid shit.

Everything about Miracleman's pregnancy arc was terrific. Every single bit. And what came after it too.

But yerp, the birth scene was surprising.

Yeah, pro-tip for people who want to get into comics.

95% of cape comics are gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarbage. Hot, steaming, you'd need like 30 barges to haul it all garbage.

Look at what is selling the most and is recommended among enthusiasts and for new readers. But, for the most part, avoid sub-books and most solo's like the plague.
