On mobile so this is quite fiddly

Then I used an app called 4kdownload (which isnt shovelware as the name would suggest) to download them at source quality and stitch them back together.
Thank you McCheese McCheese , I'll check them out tonight.

I'm interested in more cool 180/360 VR videos if anyone has any suggestions.

Hopefully this is a good place to ask

I'm looking to get into VR after fiddling around with a Cardboard thing. So my first instinct was to look for the Rift since i now very little about VR. Turns out there is a new one but apparently you need a display port and my 'VR ready' computer doesn't have that. It has a thunderbolt and some people have had luck getting it to work but i'm not taking that chance. As i don't feel like upgrading my computer just for VR, i looked into the Quest. It looks good and i love that there are no external sensors you have to place around the room. I've also read you can sideload an app and use it for Steam VR. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Outside of PSVR the Quest is my only other VR unit so I'll base it off my experience with the two.

As you can imagine the Quest has way better tracking over PSVR. That said, it isnt perfect. I have had my controllers for no reason that I can figure out lose tracking in Beat saber, it gets annoying and it is random. That said, it's still better than psvr.

Resolution is much higher in quest games but they are not as pretty as psvr equivalents. Also, not as much content as psvr, not even close. Games are also priced higher and I have yet to see a sale.

Freedom is the real bread butter of the quest though. Having no wires makes it hard to go back to wired systems. I just wish it had more content to play.

As far as lack of content goes, that's where i'm hoping the sideloading app which enables Steam VR is decent. That would open up a much bigger library

Another thing to add is you plan on getting a PS5? The current PSVR is confirmed to work on PS5 and the already noticeable graphical advantage the PS4 has will only get much bigger. And supersampling is a thing, so the resolution advantage will be there, but not as noticeable.

I would probably go Quest otherwise. It's solid all around.

No plans to get a ps5 but i'm leaning heavily towards the Quest

The quest if anything should cost more than the S, the controllers are the same, the optics on the quest are slightly better, and the quest has the mobile chipset built into it too, plus a battery etc.

Had various problems with the quest controllers mind, the springs love to start making all sorts of weird sounds after just a few weeks of use.

Is it just sounds or are they Switch joycon bad?

No, not even close. The controllers are fine just not as well made as they could be. They feel cheap in comparison to the Oculus Rift CV1 controllers but they are much better than the Switch controllers.

Used vr going cheap fast though. Like oculus go could be found used for 80-100 euros here. And it can do virtual desktop too. So like can it be used instead tv to watch movies ? How that image quality.? Saw test and that Go screen is not much worse then rift or quest

I'm also a PSVR user and I'm thinking about buying the Quest as a second VR device. The biggest problem I have with PSVR is the tracking of the move controllers and the setup with the camera.
How is the weight/comfort of the Quest headset in comparison with PSVR? Do you regret having the Quest as a second VR device?

hmmm, if you want mximum Vr content with maximum tracking accuracy in room scale go with vive and a wireless kit. But that shit expensive bro.

Yea, that's way more than what i'm willing to spend. I'm thinking that i start with the Quest and if i'm into it, i can always grab the next iteration of Rift/Index/What ever else once i upgrade my pc. From what i understand they've settled on display port for VR. If that's true, then i expect the port to be standard on decent graphics cards going forward

Display port has been standard on graphics cards for 3 years now. They usually come with 3 display ports and 1 hdmi.

It's a front heavy unit, not as comfortable as the psvr. There are plenty of accessories that fix this though. I dont regret it because I don't treat it as my main vr unit. I think it is a great secondary unit but I think anyone who would treat it as their main unit would be disappointed.

Can’t Git Gud
Seems like quest is getting a usb cable to run content from pc ! Finally.
So it's a mobile vr and a pc vr in one. So a combined headset of sorts. Love the idea
Also -HANDS TRACKING

What's the point in owning a Rift S at this point when you can play max PC settings? And Finger Tracking isn't even confirmed for Rift. Same price.

Comparison impressions

I don't think you can go wrong with the Quest. Your 1060 won't run everything at optimal settings but it will run most games better than PSVR Pro. Not to mention you get all the Quest wireless games. That's a massive amount of games available to you.

but like how it s future proof ? guess poorly as they can release new quest like in 6 month maybe now ?

No one has a crystal ball and at least quote me if I'm trying to help you.

You get a PSVR and you could wait for PS5, but the headset is still outdated as hell, so is the tracking. There won't be a PSVR2 for a long while, but that's just my opinion. But then you have to spend another $800+ for PSVR2 + PS5.

You get a Quest, and it's much newer, light years better tracking with the option to play on PC. With the Quest, that's much more future proof in terms of usability.
Sure, you only have a 1060, but that's not bad, especially the 6gb. You'll likely be playing most games at medium settings for a 2-3 of years, beyond that you might have to drop to low with very demanding games.

They'll always be releasing new Quest headsets and PSVRs, you wait for the next one and another one will be around the corner. You'll be 70 years old talking about "imma get the new Quest tho."

but i saw hot low in settings you need to go to play no mans sky with those specs. im interested in full games made to VR not like some couple minutes games on VR. And on portable so laptop would give me all that . maybe we just need to wait some and see how much all gonna go forward and be better in screens resolution refresh rate then its now.

Either way you're going to have to upgrade. If you're waiting for higher resolution and better refresh rates. Then by the time you do, they'll be a new line of hardware coming. Sony and Oculus will be leap frogging each other forever.

Saw this guy running No Man's Sky on a GTX 1060 at 2560×1440 on an Oculus Rift S no problem, and that video is old, the game has had performance improvements since then, and it's still being worked on.

Also check out the video's description, he updated it with more positive impressions.

Oculus hasn’t leap frogged anyone. The Pimax, made by a small Chinese company, is still far and away superior to the newest announcements and their headset is already dated, which is sad for the industry. :(

I don't mean just the tech. And for most the pimax is out of the price range, specifically in the convo we were having.

Mistakenly posted this in the PC VR thread instead, it looked pretty decent so I didn't consider it might be Quest only, ha, most Quest things eventually came to PC. I hope they do port them over soon :)

The Echo Arena port for Quest was delayed to 2020 but they did make a cringy ad for it.

The Quest version of The Climb looks pretty good, Cryengine's scalability is ace. Trailer here, can't embed:

Links with info, cable specs, currently recommended cable before the official is out, etc., inside. No AMD GPUs are currently supported mind. Also a new offer starts soon.
