I remember so many people getting hate for saying that about Astrobot on PSVR. People who haven't used good VR games I'm sure doing the talking.

I really wish this game was playable on PC, I want to play it so bad but I don't want to buy a second headset just for my PS5.

Anyone else playing Red Matter on Quest 2.

I’ve been playing for a few hours over the last couple of days and it’s superb.
If you‘re into more leisurely games with good puzzles and dripping with atmosphere then this game is for you. Did I mention the graphics are stunning.

Just purchased the Wander app for the Quest 2. Holy shit it is the perfect Covid app! Lets you visit almost anywhere in the world in VR. I was going back to childhood houses and old places I use to hang. It's an unreal experience!!

How does Wander compare to Google Earth VR? I've only tried the latter.

Still 5 hours left in the delivery window for my Quest 2, got the elite strap but Quest wasn't onboard. Talked to CS and they said "we are going to escalate this, it seems stuck somewhere". :messenger_fearful:

Damn sorry to hear about that. I HATE the feeling of impatiently waiting for a package!

The same thing happened to me. First it got stuck in customs and had to fill out a form and send it to them. That delayed it by 2 days. Then Fedex tracking said it would be delivered in the morning before 10am.... then before 6pm.... then it didn't arrive that day. But it did arrive the next day.

Be patient. You'll get it and it'll be worth the wait. It's amazing! :messenger_sunglasses:

Looks like it did come back to my local Amazon facility late last night... here’s hoping!

Has anyone got an Quest 1 and Quest 2 and can tell me about the black level difference. I’m seriously thinking about getting a Quest 1 just for dark games.

Quest 2 black levels are shit, like it doesn't even have black, it's just dark grey.

For video apps which are supposed to have a black void background it's immediately obvious.

But... the higher resolution and the ability to do 8k VR video playback makes the quest 2 way better for media consumption imo

I just got the Quest 2 this weekend. Still learning about it. Where can I find an 8K VR video?

nah it's alright
i was never annoyed by the black level.
And i prefer my oled tv.

the improvements of the quest 2 are so much better then quest 1

Lol

it's the same deal on psvr, which is OLED. the fact of OLED in VR is that if completely turn off pixels to get true blacks it gets a slight delay to get them lit again, so you get black smearing. So they're not really completely turned off, they just use dark gray.

LCD is absolutely not boring me in Doom 3, a game full of dark and shadows but also high contrasting lights in corners. It looks very natural.

there are several videos on YouTube that claim to be 8K VR

but you need to understand that those 8K pixels are all spread out 360 degrees around you, so the visual quality is actually lower

This gets asked a lot. Unfortunately the best quality videos I have seen are Adult themed. Mostly because they are only 180 degree and 8K. So you get a high PixelPerDegree. This camera maker has free video sample downloads on their page which are worth checking out. Make sure you try out the Stereoscopic (3D) ones. I use the DEOSVR player. If you want to get a sense of what it's like without the hassle of downloading it and putting in on the Headset storage they have compressed youtube examples which are not as good.

That's awesome. How much of the original is playable like that?

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
This video is a really good recreation of the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride that used to exist at Disney:

Note there's an exe link in the description to view it in 3D/6dof (and free roam where applicable), video is just showing what that is like/for devices that can't run it natively >_>

I completed Red Matter. First game I’ve finished in ages. I really enjoyed it.

Been playing around with my new Quest 2 for about a week now - still LOVING it!

I've been playing Beat Saber ( this may become an obsession for my wife ) and Google Earth VR, and playing around with Side Quest and Virtual Desktop. Doom 3 is also great but I'm not sure if I'll actually finish it. Decided it was time for my first "real VR game" and went with The Walking Dead - Saints and Sinners.

So far it's great. The GAMEPLAY is better than I expected. I've seen videos, sure, but you just don't really get how impressive it is until you try it yourself. It makes playing normal flat games seem kind of primitive by comparison.

Being able to grab a zombies by the head and thrust my knife into its skull in EXACTLY the way I want is a true next gen experience. Pressing X for a canned melee animation, like in every other game, seems so boring and limited after experiencing this.

Am I gonna have trouble going back to flat gaming after this?

But I've started to experience motion sickness and after about 40 minutes I have to stop. I think I should probably stop a bit sooner than I am actually. Any tips on getting my VR legs faster?

no, let your body get used to it in its own pace. Yes, stop playing before symptoms come up. 40 minutes as a VRgins is quite a long session. keep sessions very short and every day you should be able to play longer without issues. Oh, and forget turning with analog stick: turn with your own body.

yes, along with Boneworks and Alyx, TWD SS really pushed for physics-based interactions and is quite awesome. In Doom 3 as an old flat game you can't simply pick up stuff lying around but it still quite impressive physics: you can shoot all objects. It'll get better once they implement two-handed guns like they did in Quake or Half-Life - and you'll play better once you overcome motion sickness.

Tips for VR legs
As soon as you start feeling funny stop. Lots of short sessions is the key.
Take your time in the game and stop moving often. Take a look and the scenery for a few mins.
Don’t use control turning. It’s wireless so turn with your body. If playing seated then stand up.

Been doing pretty well playing beat saber and psychonauts: the rhombus of ruin. But then I tried that Pokémon VR game on side quest and NOPE had to stop before I barfed lol

Man this thread makes me really glad, and surprised, that I've never really had any vr sickness whatsoever. I didn't really consider it and it's not happened. Once after playing an arena shooter with grapple hooks I felt very mildly sick but I might have imagined that. Weird as not iron stomached in other situations particularly.

Anyway, looking forward to trying out walking dead in the future, I went with Alyx before that and still making my way through it. It's awesome and I know that I'm not gonna go back to flat gaming for a while, if ever.

Seem to be having a problem with Virtual Desktop - My GPU usage is insanely high.

With my 1080ti just sitting idle at the virtual desktop shows GPU usage at around 70-80% and this is causing games to run like shit. For example using the link cable Saints and Sinners runs like butter locked to 90fps but when using Virtual Desktop it's around 45fps. CPU usage is also sitting at around 20-25% (3900X).

I did a quick Google search about this and others are having this problem as well. Some of the responses are saying that's it's not your GPU usage that's high but that simply the encoding part of your GPU that's high. Just making the connection and streaming my desktop is eating up 70-80% of my total GPU performance leaving me with only 30% for the game I'm about to play.

EDIT - I just opened up MSI afterburner and it's showing that my GPU usage is NOT high. Maybe around 4% while using Virtual Desktop. But the main problem remains, that my actual gaming performance is SUBSTANTIALLY lower while using VD as compared with using the link cable. Hmmmmmm..... I'm very new to all of this. Maybe I'm just doing something wrong.

I've been playing a lot of Beat Saber on my new Quest 2. I played the original Rift with the Xbox controller before the motion controllers were a thing. The motion controllers really add a lot fo the experience compared to what I played years and years ago with early VR. The guardian thing is also pretty neat. Feels very sci fi when you walk towards the edge, see the grid, stick your head through it and the real world slowly comes back into vision.

I often put the headset away from the guardian area and it shows as a virtual grid in a black and white boring world. Stepping into it while boring everyday reality fades away feels just like stepping into the Holodeck...

it's genius tech, really prevents me from getting near walls.

Yeah, they just need to increase its size though. It’s about 31 by 31 feet. I have two big soccer fields at my local park so I could potentially have a massive guarding space.

You would think the link cable should also be encoding to the stream as well because it’s usb and it just doesn’t have the bandwidth of hdmi.

This is why we need an official wireless link app. I believe virtual desktop also doesn’t do frame rate interpolation which vr uses to maintain the high frame rates.

I think the elite headstrap works a lot better then the cheaply made one that comes with it.

Do you have a PC that's powerful enough to run PC games or just standalone?

I recommend SuperHot, Beat Saber, and Walking Dead Saints and Sinners if you like well-made survival horror.

Yeah I do actually! (I think anyway)

Got a build with 32GB ram, ryzen 5 3600xt and a EVGA 2080S , hoping that's enough to run PC VR with the quest 2? I already was looking at beat saber for sure and maybe FitXR to get some cardio in during lockdown, are there any good "fitness" games?

That's decent for VR. You might have to drop some settings, but it won't matter much.

Yeah, in that case you have a lot of options. Half Life Alyx for sure, but the list goes on.

What about the battery case? Is that worth getting in the bundle with the elite strap?

I only bought the regular one. The battery it comes with already lasts around 2 hours and I don't think I would ever play VR that much in one session.

I'm in the same boat(har har) with the motion sickness. I haven't overcome it yet, but I've noticed if I stop right at the onset and take a break, I can come back and play again quickly. When I tried to push through it for a longer session, I was wrecked out even the next day.

It takes a while, about a week or so for me, now I can play for as long as I like, jumping and spinning and shooting etc. It will go, and its worth pushing through, but like you said, 20-30mins sessions to start with.

New owner of a quest 2. After not being able to get a ps5 and a rtx 3060ti, I splurged on this. I was going to get the rift s at target as it was on sale but I kept pushing it off. I finally decided to take the plunge put it into my cart and hit checkout. The price shot up toe $400. Apparently the sale ended and target updates its prices at midnight est unlike most which wait till the morning. I was pissed but it was a sign to not get it as nowhere else had it for the sake price. So ordered a quest 2 on Amazon got it 3 weeks early, wasn't even expecting it.

First night I downloaded thrill of the fight. I went out in my backyard with the floodlight on and boxed some ogre sized dude in a 15ft box play area. Then went on to bear a few more fighters I was worn out after that. What a workout. My dog was looking at me like I was nuts. Wonder if the neighbors saw or heard me cursing up a storm?

I bought skyrim vr when it was on sale weeks ago. It took forever to get side quest working and virtual desktop but now that I did its great. Looks thr same as the link cable and I don't have any lag that I notice.

Been playing half-life vr with labda (sp?) and it's amazing. Sitting on that elevated train car going through black Mesa was so cool. Only thing I don't like is that to turn it does it in 15 degree chunks. There is no smooth turning option for the right stick like on a console game or skyrim vr. Does doom3 and quake have smooth turning? I would love deus ex and theif on here.

What are some good games to get? Is Creed a better boxing game, and is saints and sinners different on quest store vs steam vr?

Pretty sure it has smooth turning on alyx..........I wouldn't of played with snap turning (it was a while ago i played it tho)

Unless I just never used the turn and moved my body instead
