I like 4 Deva , Courtsean, and Jiraiya arc better than Benizakura.

@Narag
just continue watching, there's something better in eps 86-87

Season/year 2 was awesome, the best season so far in Gintama IMO

Although the 16:9 era years starting to change that to me.

Not much. Not much at all. The only show I can actually think of having watched from beginning to end is FMA: Brotherhood. Obviously, I'd like to branch out and diversify a little.

I guess I can state one show I'm watching in club right now that I really like. Humanity Has Declined/Mankind Has Fallen.

You should start with the classics like Cowboy Bebop and then walk down the path of cynicism until you get where we are.

If you want something more recent, go for Fate/Zero.

Well, since you haven't mentioned seeing it, Cowboy Bebop is a great first stop. Absolutely brilliant. Probably my favorite show of all time, anime or otherwise.

If you want Shonen Battle Action: Go for the new Hunter x Hunter anime. For something classic, perhaps Yu Yu Hakusho may be to your liking.

If you want Comedy:Gintama is always a great choice. You may miss some of the more referential humor, but it should still be super funny.

So gentlemen.

I want to start really watching some anime.

But there's like, a fucking million billion trillion shows and ways to watch them.

I don't even know where to start.

As a fellow shounenbro from Mangaf, I could recommend a lot, but I wouldn't want to overwhelm you.

Ever see Gurren Lagann? Don't know how you feel about mecha series, but it's the best anime of all time.

In the beginning, there was nothing. Then something occured, which a lot of people will tell you was a very bad idea. All in all, we ended up with Gurren-Lagann as the greatest anime of all time, until it was rapidly displaced by the moe slice-of-life anime of the moment. The end.

For reals though Gurren Lagann is pretty fun.

Kou's perpetual scowling in the cockpit is comical.
Jamitov and Bask Om appearances were cool though.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Sasami 6:
What the hell, this was actually good?

God damnit, now I realize how much potential they squandered with heavy handed writing and direction.

It's no Strike Witches.

I just found the statement funny.

The correct answer is LOGH but that's a different discussion altogether.

I can't really recommend this yet as I've only watched the first 3 episodes, but it's pretty much awesome right off the bat.

I wonder if people will even be talking about anime in another hundred years.

The history of time and space is pretty big. Pretty sure some chap in a blue box has a lock on that anyway.

Anime will take over live action in 50 years or so. All hail the CG revolution.

The Idolm@ster Episode 15

This episode. This episode.

I swear, I would watch an entire series about Are We Live. This was easily one of the best episodes of The Idom@ster yet. And after that tepid last episode, exactly what I needed. I might even hazard to say this is the most entertained I've been by an episode of this show since I started watching this show. I haven't been too complimentary of the ensemble cast episodes before, but this absolutely knocked it out of the park. I know the rest of the show isn't going to be like this - and unless this Production 961 stuff gets out of hand (which is a very real possibility), I still expect to enjoy it - but I really wish it was. This was fun as hell. A lot of great skits capped off by that absolutely brilliant faux-trailer. Just holy shit, that was amazing.

I feel like I should be more elaborate in my impressions - like the production quality (which is consistent bar a few frames that stood out poorly for me) and the direction (which is as consistent as the production quality), but I really can't imagine too much to say about this episode and this show besides this:

Ten boob missiles out of ten. Would watch again.

Idol rankings have not changed.

As others have said, watch Cowboy Bebop. That's the best starting point any to-be anime enthusiast can have.

Why hello there. :) Fancy seeing you in these parts. Follow the advice of the others before me. I'll add Gintama to the list. It's long but worth viewing.

Guys I need help, I've finally finished Legend of the Galactic Heroes and now I don't know where to go from here.

It was one of the best pieces of media I've ever experienced and all other anime seems meh in comparison. My tolerance for bad anime tropes has also hit rock bottom, halp pls.
There's the LoGH moves and the two spin-off series if you haven't seen those yet.

I don't mean to make waves, but Gurren Lagann is not the greatest mecha anime of all time.

That is Martian Successor Nadesico. Gurren Lagann is just a really, really, really great mecha anime.

If RomComs are your thing, seek Nodame Cantabile. (52 episodes between 3 seasons) Most people here would recommend ToraDora (24 episodes) as well for RomCom.

For action/drama, seek out Fate/Zero (25 episodes) for something recent. For drama without the action (and insert some comedy and :firehawk), Hanasaku Iroha is quality work.

For sci-fi thriller, seek out Steins;Gate (24 episodes). If psychological thriller is more to your liking, Paranoia Agent (13 episodes) is a bit older but good.

For ultimate comedy, if you don't mind having 261 episodes to catch up on, Gintama. If you want to start shorter (12 episodes) and from the same director, Daily Lives of High School Boys. Also at 52 episodes (I think?) is School Rumble. I highly recommend Nichijou (26 episodes), but be weary that around these parts there's virtually no middle-ground. You'll either love it or hate it.

For feels-good-for-the-soul anime, seek out Space Brothers. Ongoing, at 44-45 episodes.

Now, for the old school recommendations. :D

If you want high fantasy drama, seek out the Record of Lodoss War OVA series (13 episodes) and The Vision of Escaflowne (26 episodes). For high fantasy comedy, seek out Slayers (104 episodes between 5 seasons, several OVAs and movies). Or Dragon Half if you only want 2 episodes. ;P

For a very different fantasy style that has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION EVER, seek out El-Hazard: The Magnificent World (7 episodes). The sequels are shit though, and I'm still crying inside as a result.

For really old space action seek out Macross (39 episodes?). Gunbuster is also quality at 6 episodes, but beware the fanservice. For space comedy, seek out The Irresponsible Captain Tylor (26 episodes). The OVAs are rubbish though.

If you prefer your giant mechs to also fuck your brain hard and fast, seek out Neon Genesis Evangelion (26 episodes, 2 movies). There are movies being made now but they're very different from the original TV series. There's also it's cloned brother Rahxephon (26 episodes and a movie), but the less said about Rahxephon the better.

If you're interested in the slightest at harem anime, the Tenchi Muyo OVA series are the best place to start. However the 3rd OVA series blows goats and isn't worth watching.

If you want cute things, start with the irresistible Cardcaptor Sakura (70 episodes, 2 movies). For something shorter at 13 episodes Acchi Kochi is adorable as fuck, but basically has no plot whatsoever.

Speaking of no plot, K-On (41 episodes across two seasons and a movie) is the best show ever made about nothing but cute girls doing cute girl things and is wonderful if that's your cup of tea. (heh heh)

Okay guys, what am I missing?

I'll shift it up the list after Denmou Coil I guess, but I think I need a break from anime for a while still

It really is amazing. 15 and 26 (another ensemble-ish skits episode) are my favorite episodes in the series. I personally don't think the show handles drama very well, but when it has fun, I really enjoy it.

The movie will be about one of the girls getting caught by paparazzi staying over at Mr. Producer's house overnight. She then goes on niconico douga with her head shaved and apologizes to her fans. Its quite touching really.

You mean the inevitable AKB0048 movie right?

I hope so

Also: Even though The Big O is Noir Batman Asimov Evangelion Tomatoes, I feel like it deserves to be mentioned in all discussions of truly good mecha anime.
So does the Full Metal Panic! series, your bad taste not withstanding.

I'm having a hard time ranking Gundam SEED as anything more than "pretty good" now that I know it is basically Mobile Suit Gundam meets Final Fantasy.

So of the shows I've watched:

GOD OF ALL MECHA TIER:
Martian Successor Nadesico

The best mere mortals can manage tier:
Gurren Lagann
Evangelion
The Big O
Eureka Seven

Pretty good tier:
Mobile Suit Gundam
Full Metal Panic!, Fumoffu, The Second Raid

Should be pretty good but one thing holds it back tier:
Gundam SEED
Gundam Wing
Zoids New Century Zero

Wishes it was a good show tier:
Rah Xephon
Gundam SEED Destiny

Quite possibly the most awful mecha anime of all time tier:
The first five minutes of Line barrels of Iron
I never watched much maybe I'm joking

Worse than waterboarding tier:
Gundam AGE.

Mobile Suit Gundam below Eureka 7. Ahhhhhhhhhhh. My brain cannot compute.

Terrible. I'm sorry I ever doubted those that said as much. Most of the characters are either idiots or caricatures, there's so much wasted time doing god knows what in some eps, and so much bullshit takes place explicilty for the sake of facilitating a twist at the end.

There's some merit in the visuals as the animation really is incredible at times but little else aside from the random fanservice foreshadowing future events in the UC timeline.

No Code Gess anywhere?

also I watched a couple others that I quite enjoyed at the time: Gun X Sword and Viper's Creed. Do you have any comment on those?

I'm sort of with you there, but they both have a manly place in my heart.

I agree, but if only one had to come up, it would be Jojo for me.
