Guess I need to post this again since there are some people who seem to have already forgotten after 2 page. Wow, how the mind slips!

Not saying the the Switch will be a breakout success by any means, but I don't recall the Wii U being sold out at launch. I walked into a TRU two or three days after launch and picked one up. The Target nearby me had a good number of units as well.

It was, wii-u sold well at launch. Not sure why people think pre-orders selling out means anything. it doesn't. PSVR sold out too.

I think, much like the 3DS, sales will be slow and it won't hit its stride until its first holiday. Switch is in a better position out of the gate though because it's launching with a killer app, regardless of it also being on Wii U.
I'm hoping (unrealistically) that arms becomes the 'wii sports' of the thing. Actually that said, why isn't there a jazzed up sports for this one? Use their mascots and make it all more accurate. I'd kill for a Mario golf on this if they can make it like Wii sports golf, that was super fun

now they must build on this. Keep the demand up.

Wii U's failure was that. Once it go in the hands of the people, it had nothing else to sell it.

If they were smart that Mario Sports Mix 3DS game would also be on Switch.

It was never a doubt in my opinion that launch allocations would sell out. It's months from launch that will tell the whole story.

They don't wanna cut into those potential Mario Sports Superstars profits, homie.

EDIT: I think this game should have been the pack-in. Just do a 720p version of the 3DS game and call it a day.

Hope it's the same in the UK. The Wii U launch here was awful. Didn't sell out and noone cared about it at all. Think it moved like 40k and obviously never recovered from that poor start.

If they didn't sold out everything -> Lmao DOA it's doomed
If they sold out everything -> Lmao just like the Wii U it will also be DOA it's doomed
If Gamespot wouldn't have reported anything -> Lmao they don't even care about the console it's DOA, doomed etc.

The truth is that its a marathon. A sell out at launch is expected as much as a it is expected that a marathon runner will start to move his feet when the race starts.

The real question is longevity and nobody here knows the answer to that.

Well Amazon has run out of its initial allocation and, on the Wednesday before the event, my local GAME had around 40 pre-orders already. I think it'll definitely do better; I remember the Wii U launch, things were absolutely dire.

As to the whole Switch vs Wii U problems situation Switch has far less issues for the uneducated casual gamer. People legit didn't even know 2 years into the Wii Us lifespan that it wasn't a tablet add on for the Wii. That was real and also a huge issue.

At the very least it's been made clear Switch is a brand new device without much confusion. The majority of its problems are once you take a closer look and there are indeed many

Yep. Nintendo will always sell out at launch. They have enough devotees to do that until the end of time. Console success is measured by growth. That will be the challenge for Ninty for sure.

The Wii U launched in the Holidays. The Switch launches in March. This means it has several months to build up a library, and then get in on some sweet holiday deals (plus on the gamer side of things show what it has in store for the future at E3).

so yes the Wii U did great at its launch, but its not exactly the same. Nintendo, at the very least, has the chance to grab momentum.

they probably wont tho

;_;

My god at people trying to derail every single positive Switch thread. It's hilarious and pathetic at the same time.

Who is derailing? Examples? Stating facts is not derailing, just because you don't like what the facts say.

Facts are facts, Wii-u sold out fast at launch, so did PSVR, this means nothing.. I am buying a switch at launch because I need zelda, but I am in the minority on who would spend 300 + for one game, the mass market needs a lot more.

As always, it's important to note that the same thing happened with the Wii U, and that still flopped overall. There is some demand, of course, but it's also quite likely that Nintendo isn't shipping much of an initial supply.

Exactly. No confusion here as to what a Nintendo Switch is.

It has less issues. Nobody knew wtf a Wii U was and just thought it was a tablet for Wii they didn't need.

Right. The Switch doesn't have these issues right out the gate like the Wii U did. Fundamental issues.

At least Nintendo can always change the way the Switch's online system will work. Hell, that aspect of the console doesn't even launch until the fall, so they've got a built in "out."

I remember walking in to GAME on launch day to collect my reservation and they had plenty of unreserved consoles and told me how quiet their midnight opening was. You could tell from the off that this thing was d.o.a

I went to a store in the middle of nowhere in New Zealand and they had already nearly hit their allotment (20) before the presentation lol. And nintendo has always struggled here. For reference they said they got 3 wiiu preorders lol.

The Switch was never going to do as poorly as the Wii U but will those 20 preorders stick around once their buyers find out it costs NZ$550 (US$392)? Nintendo's handhelds have always done relatively decently compared to their consoles here, in large part thanks to Pokemon, but I really think it's dead in the water with their idiotic pricing.

I got my reserve in just in time last Friday, my local had 40 total reservations to give and they were down to the last 5 spots.

Reserved a normal grey Switch and Zelda.

Wii U was available on launch day in numerous places.

I'm curious to see how much word of mouth marketing occurs in big cities where people are likely to use the Switch during commutes. Doubly so if Nintendo is relying on artificial scarcity to drive demand. Part of the passive interest that's likely to be built through seeing it on a train will be the ability to ask what it is and then go buy it from a store immediately after. If someone can't? That could pretty easily backfire.

Switch has not launched yet, but there was no wii-u's to be found here at launch.
I walked into a Gamestop in the middle of Seattle and grabbed a WiiU a day or two after launch. It was bizarre.

You are not wrong, but the launches have some pretty significant differences. Aside from the different times of the year, it seems switch was limited to a 1 per customer deal in most retailers, and more importantly, it seems like it will not have 6 months of no releases with mario kart in april, and arms ans splatoon out before july.

It's relatively low investment to reserve something without putting anything down on it upfront. I expect a lot of consumers will cancel their preorders.

I don't think the WiiU was fully sold out. I recall the basic $299 did not sell well, only the $350 model did. Maybe someone knows better though

Yeah, now I've decided on getting one at launch instead of waiting it'll be interesting to see how the launch day is like. I'm not going for the midnight launch but I'll definitely ask.

Nintendo of America is awful for supplying in-demand products. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the initial allocation in question turned out to be less than 200k units.

But to extrapolate that because the Switch launch is sold out like he WIiU then it is doomed is a laughable opinion. But I guess if you want to drive a point home logic doesn't mater.

Regarding the Wii U situation;

At least in the U.K the Wii U (both SKUs) were available on Amazon weeks after launch if I am remembering correctly.

Switch sold out the first day. Without knowing numbers it doesn't really mean anything though.

Logic is this means nothing, that's a fact, not sure why this bothers you? Where did I say it was doomed? Without third party support though and 300 bucks it is not going to fly off shelves.

I remember walking into gamestop on black Friday and being able to buy a Deluxe Wii U no problem. I don't think the Wii U sold out at launch
