End of show spoiler: I am concerned about
Piper turning into a complete loon. What she did to Stella was just wrong. Should have just let her go home.

Also not sure if I am liking the love triangle here. Alex and Piper are meant to be. The fanboy in me wants the series finale to be the two of them getting married.

Her fling with Stella just doesn't feel right.

I also feel like
Piper and Caputo are doing the same type of thing -- turning to the dark side.

S3 HoC was a fun ride. S2 was boring. But that's off topic. But just like OITNB, I'd say HoC ranks 1 > 3 > 2, oddly enough.

I actually haven't lol.

I actually don't remember if House of Cards was as long but this one is just so loud and in your face that it's harder to tune out.

lol. Fair enough but it's kind of annoying on a phone. I like to watch on my phone at the gym so having to precisely scroll exactly 1 minute and not way more by accident is a bit annoying.

It's not that big a deal I just wish it was shorter.

Actually is that show good? I heard the reviews weren't great but I'm curious.

Sense8 is a Characther focused show, if you liked Lost and Cloud Atlas, go watch it. I loved, it is in no way a perfect show, it has its fault but they do everything with so much love and passion that you are able to forget the the bad stuff the show does/have.

On Topic: I like this season of OITNB more than the second one... Seeing Piper become more of a secondary character is painful to me :( I know that she is not perfect and everyone is very right to hate her, but I always liked her, with her HUGE faults and all that, but at the same time it is AWESOME to have all that time invested in the other characters.

Halfway through the season and this show has gone from faltering/losing it in season two, to downright bad and boring in season 3. Not much redeeming about it anymore. Nothing is happening, the writing is preachy, everything is hammy. Think I'll finish the season but I probably won't be back. Looks like it was a one season wonder.

not sure how you could say s3 was fun but 2 was boring. I like season 3 but nothing really happens. There were exactly 0 "holy shit" moments, besides maybe
when piper planted all that shit in the australian chick's bunk

season 2's V story arc was way more tense than anything that happened in s3

edit: sorry, didn't see you were talking about HoC. I'd rank OITNB 2>1>3, but it's close. I've enjoyed each season so far. 3 was just a little slow, imo.

The thing about the flashbacks I feel people are missing is that a lot of them might seem redeeming or painting them as victims of circumstance, but that's often the way it is in reality - and even if not, some of the worst felons were once children who weren't a danger to society.

As far as the flashbacks themselves, some of the makeup work and actor/actress choices were on the money. Young Caputo had the same exact drawl and I could imagine him aging up into the new one. Young Daya was also perfect, especially her face and eyes.

I do agree that they need to show some more dangerous people in S4, though.

MVP of S3 was Chang.

Just watched the episode last night where
Irma kills the hippie dude
and man, I just have no drive to continue. I'll finish it, but the plot is going nowhere fast.

The only consequential episodes of S3 are the first and last, you could practically skip everything in between and miss nothing of terrible importance.

I do agree that the Netflix originals are losing quite a bit of luster in general...

HoC: 1>2>3
OitNB: 1>3>2

This season has been pretty good so far. I liked the character development of Dogg, Chang and the others. Surprised so many people didn't like it.

There was one flashback where
tiffany had a regular voice.. I really hope they explain how her voice changed at some point.

Finally finished it. Some good plots here and there, but with a lot more bad and silly plots combined with some bad acting. Overall, I thought this season is really bland.

It goes S1 >> S2 >>> S3 for me, and best character this season was Chang.

I still have to dig in due to my enormous backlog on TV shows, but I keep hearing about how Ruby Rose is turning straight women gay and gay men straight or at least bi... is she really?

She's pretty damn hot, can't blame them.

Terrible season, way too preachy and way too boring, why is everyone suddenly getting along? season 1 can never happen again unless we get a whole new prison with piper + a whole new cast. Also some of the backstories felt like they were written by a 16 year old, it felt like fan fiction.

Agreed. This season felt soft for a prison show. Not many people killing each other.

eh a personal taste thing but Flaca and Maritza >>>> her

spoiler for they start THE job
which is why I found Flaca complaining about the models in that fashion magazine so strange, she looks like she would fit right in with them

Damn, they really focus-grouped the shit out of this show, even more than previous seasons (or maybe I'm just noticing it more). The NPR-ish references became so obvious that somewhere during episode 3 I thought "all this show needs is Mike Birbiglia to become a complete NPR fuckfest", and presto, next episode he shows up.

I don't really mind, I'm part of their target demographic, but it really felt like pandering sometimes.

He's an alright stand-up and a great storyteller, but yeah, it's pretty obvious they only cast him so people like me would go "oh hey, it's the Sleepwalk With Me guy!".

Finished last night. Not as good as Season 1, but definitely much better than the melodramatic mess that was Season 2. The slice of life approach works for this show, and I don't care that much about having an overarching storyline.

I hope Alex is dead, but I doubt it. Apparently she's popular??? I really don't understand that at all, she's unbearable to me. I don't know if it's just the way she carries herself or the way she talks or what but something about her has always rubbed me the wrong way and she's easily the worst character in the show for me. I don't know wtf happened to Bennett. His leaving just felt super abrupt and out of nowhere. I liked Soso this season, especially since her story arc gave us more Poussey. Speaking of I'm glad they scrapped her weird out of nowhere storyline with Taystee from S2. I also really liked Pennsatucky and Boo's friendship.

Overall the season was fine. 7.5/10 maybe.

Really great season overall, just finished it up last night.

Some small complaints:
they continue to paint every woman in the prison as a victim of circumstance. No one's a bad person, quite the opposite. They all have hearts of gold. It's getting absurd now. When they cut to that random 2 minute clip of the black runner girl being told she couldn't run track in college and getting slapped because we're Muslims dammit, I actually laughed. She wasn't even a minor focal point of the episode. We get it guys. But it's ok for some of them to at least be morally questionable sometimes.

I disagree with this. Pretty much every character on the show, is in prison because of their own fault. I can really only think of 1 or 2 characters who are in the prison but didn't really deserve it. Also this is a minimum security prison so of course most of the inmates aren't going to be hardened criminals.

What you're probably experiencing is actually the show just humanizing it's characters. Too often people just view inmates as being the trash of society and this show is just showing that isn't always the case. Also are we watching the same show? The characters are questionably moral all the time, for example the casual racism that they throw around to each other with every other line.

Yeah, it always seemed like he was just fucking with Caputo, but apparently he was serious and on his side.

Just finished it and I really enjoyed it, a lot better than season two. Only a couple of things I didn't like were
the stupid Norma religion storyline, and Leanne's whole story, which tied into it. Also wasn't crazy about Suzzane's story and everyone loving it, but at least they gave Uzo more to do.

I loved Pennsatucky's story this season, so tragic, and she played it all perfectly. A little perplexed as to why this Abercrombie model looking guy would show up and suddenly fall in love with her, but whatever, the scene between them in the bedroom was a standout this season, and her relationship with Boo was great.

Am I the only one thinking Bennett was the guy who called the cops, or perhaps one of his former Army pals about Cezar? I can see him showing up next season with the baby, unless the actor has completely moved on to other stuff.

I finished watching this last night. Definitely the weakest season for me.

The bad:

Piper is just the worst. The absolute worst. Norma's cult, with Leanne's involvement, was just bad and went on far too long. The drama with the guards and Caputo got very boring. The Daya/Bennet is still dreadful. Morello's storyline was awful.

The good:

I did love Taystee as the mom. And I loved Soso's story and how it tied in with Poussey. I also liked Suzanne's story. Pennsatucky's story was surprisingly strong and I really loved her friendship with Boo. Red remains great but I'm a bit perplexed by her quasi romance with Healey. My heart broke for Sophia. :(

The
Norma stuff dragged on way too long.
So did the stuff with Daya. Other than that I really liked this season.

Gonna go against the grain here and say that the first two seasons were similarly good, while the third was just decent.

The girlfriend and I binged S1 and S2 in the space of a week and we felt gripped the whole way through, but I constantly felt my attention wavering during S3. It wasn't bad, it just didn't keep me glued like before.

The first half was quite funny but plot-wise I think the pacing was poor, with too much time spent on side-character flashbacks.

Just finished Episode 9.
Damn Piper, you get Alex back in prison either because you thought it'd keep her safe (which was stupid) or just to get your fuck buddy back (uber bitchy), you brush her off when she's (rightfully) worried about getting shanked, then go kissing British girl? That's cold, bitch, real cold.

Not that I blame her, Ruby Red is smokin' hot.

Really liked this season, but I feel like some of the subplots stretched out way too long, particularly the writing and Norma stuff.

It was light on plot, sure, but I don't think this show has really had much of one beyond Vee and who she was headbutting with (and that plot didn't involve a whole lot of the cast anyway), and I don't think it needs a lot of it anyway. Really liked the increased focus on the background characters.

I kinda hope Alex is dead at this point. I liked her and Piper early this season but she's felt kind of out of place and if she somehow survives her cliffhanger, I have no clue what else they'd even have for her to do.

Hoping Natasha Lyonne and Ruby Rose are back next season despite being sent to the max purgatory.

I'm also a bit over Healy as a character. Only so many pathetic loneliness stories combined with occassional decency followed by an explosion of bitter rants against women beats worth visiting. Especially when they have "entitled nice guy" firmly covered now by Caputo, a better character, and the donut rapist.

This is is really on point with casting flashback kid versions of the actors.

MVP of the season: Pennsatucky. Taryn Manning killed it.

A little surprised to see people rank it below Season two.

Too many story story lines that were boring or bad
I didn't even mention the Gloria and Sophia stuff which I didn't like either
. There were times that I could barely pay attention.

My thoughts after a week or so

I really hope Bennett comes back..I enjoy the chemistry between him and Daya.

Maritza is bae

I really hope the way the season ended doesnt mean the guards won't come back..They all made the show so much more enjoyable.

I don't care about Pornstache at all, but whoever played his mom is a great actor and seems familiar..been meaning to look her up lol.

I hope the series ends with Piper doing something horrible and going to jail for the rest of her life, I can't even describe how much I hate that character.

My wife and I finished the season and loved it. I love the smaller characters getting to step up, and I thought Piper's storyline was actually great. I don't get the complaints. Felt like the show found its groove. Anyone watching this for plot is just misguided, IMO.

Just finished.

What the fuck. So no more Nicky? Is she gone for good? She was the best character :( Please tell me she's back for season 4. And Bennet as well? I don't like how they just dump the cast :(

I do like how Piper's turning into a bad bitch though, will be interesting to watch in season 4. Still loving the show, sucks that it's a whole year before it's back again.
