I whinny my fervor lowly, for his length is not as great as those of the Hylian war stallions
It's been so long, wow...

The show has improved so much since those days.

Man that hair! Colbert was a handsome sonofabitch!

American government experimenting with LSD on people. Such an interesting thing.

You can also really tell that the '60's were in style in the '90's.

Yeah I remember the 90s having a fond remembrance for the 60s

The video quality isn't so bad. Would be cool if they could sell years of the show on Blu-ray or put them on streaming. Though wouldn't be surprising if there are episodes lost or otherwise in very poor quality.

I would be cool to have an archive of all the corespondent interviews and "investigations". The couple I've seen from watching this marathon hold up really well. The news does not hold up as well.

I had to look up the movie Peter Krause complimented Jon on, "Playing by Heart".

In addition to Jon, it stars Gillian Anderson, Angelina Jolie and Sean Connery. Now that's a cast. Gonna have to check it out.

It's amazing how innocent and trivial the mood of the era was. Caring about Oscar nominees and making fun of KISS really did feel like the most important news of the day in 1999.

Don;t worry Jon, the stock market will crash again in a few years.

Al up in that? These sketches are weird.

Ah yes the feather duster... the original Viagra.

I was just thinking about that. How John started off as a comedian and then shit suddenly got so real.

You aren't kidding. In the opening the announcer calls it the most important show in the world, he had no idea how right he was.

I would totally buy a Daily Show box set but since they probably won't make one, I hope someone somewhere is ripping this stream right now...

I was thinking about that earlier. The way I see it, they eventually had remove that opening line because it became arguably true...

Man, this 'doom and gloom' republican talk is so similar to the shit they say today.

99: America will soon be vulnerable to missiles from China, Iran, and North Korea!

2015: So when's that's supposed to happen?

I thought I was watching something from today

Poor John Larroquette.

March 15 – April 28, 1999 is the life of the PAYNE show. One month, ouch

It's so crazy that they really had this little to talk about back then, I mean I can't even imagine a look at the best picture nominees today.

Let's not forget that the show itself took some time to become as politically-oriented as it is today after Stewart took over from Kilborn. It's not just a case of the news becoming more eventful.

That being said, 9/11 was certainly a turning point. I am strangely dreading that episode. I want to stay in this nostalgic 90's dream...

Oh of course, you can still see what the Daily Show will become stick it's head out now and again, like with this thing about the Voodoo thing, but they also did an interview with a naked bungee jumper the prior episode. It's just such a crazy thing to watch.

Any idea what time the 9/11 episode will be?

I'm not sure actually. Someone would have to count the episodes from where we currently are to then and the 2000 episodes aren't numbered.

The 9/11 episode probably won't air for like another week, considering it's taken nearly a day to go through two months. The 9/11 episode is still a little under two and a half years away.

Man, even Back in Black has a different feel. The show just makes it seem like the world was so great back then, like there was this innocence we lost along the way and that led to a spiral into pure insanity.

I wonder how long it will take until we get to episodes where Jon Stewart is wearing a suit that actually fits.

EDIT: At least one more.

It's weird, right. There's a clear delineation between the pre 9/11 world and the post one. It's interesting to think about how that event changed everything.

Ahhhh, this is crazy. This is so 1999 it hurts.

I didn't actually start watching The Daily Show until....2002/2003-ish, so this is kind of strange to see Jon commenting on things that I remember, but have never seen him comment on before.

Also weird how non-political it is.

In terms of pop culture, television, and the daily show in particular i don't really go by pre and post 9/11. after the first 6 or so months i feel like the show still felt like it did in 99 other than stewart getting more comfortable in his spot.

1997-2002 is like a weird growing period for American pop culture and fads. Stuff didn't start to resemble what it is today until about 2003.

Doesn't it? This luxury I'm witnessing to talk about frivolous nothing-ness is maddening. This is before political talk became commercialized, it's like in this current Oscar episode Jon could start talking about politics and his audience would just get confused. Like it'd be a product the consumer market has never seen before. No appetite for it.
