Great full rendition of Lockjaw's Saga!
Wow, really outstanding stuff. One thing I do miss is the sound of the water sloshing around. That's one thing the DKC2 soundtrack did that still blows me away. So many tracks have some awesome sound effect perfectly implemented into the song that matches the environments to a T. All the new stuff is great though, just being nostalgic here :)

Grand Kirkhope worked on Goldeneye's OST too. In fact, in his personal site he had posted some of the tracks in their original quality, before he compressed them to fit the cart.

Edit - Here they are: http://www.grantkirkhope.com/goldeneye.html
Oh, cool! I love Grant Kirkhope. :)

Great full rendition of Lockjaw's Saga!
YES! I updated the OP with all four versions of Lockjaw's Saga -- see Update #3.

Now that's the stuff.

Imma bow out for tonight. If Piplup keeps uploading, be on the lookout for 5-1, 5-6, 6-2, 6-5, 6-7, and 6-Boss. They all kick some serious ass.
Awesome, thanks for the tips. :)

Oh man, all the Irate Eight songs are glorious, especially the Chase version. Lockjaw's Saga is probably in my top 4 favorite DKC tunes (next to Fear Factory, Mine Cart Madness, and Hot Pursuit) and these remixes are absolutely amazing. Great stuff.

And all this is one level? Man, I need this game directly in my veins.

The three Irate Eight songs are in one level (called Irate Eight, because it culminates in a sequence where you're chased by
the giant squid from Returns
). The first one, which I simply called Lockjaw's Saga in Update #3 in the OP, plays in level 4-A (I don't know the name of the level). It's a land level with some swimming sections.

World 4 Boss Theme -- not the official title, of course. Probably my favorite boss theme (and boss battle) in the game. A bit simple, perhaps, but I like it. :)

I think I enjoyed Returns's soundtrack more than most, but the boss themes in that game were pretty mediocre. The ones in TF seem to be a lot more varied. Really liking World 5's. The fight reminds me of
Kudgel
too.

Possibility of a remix of Fischer's Water World?

doubtful, but I enjoy it more than AA or LS

My man. Water World > Lockjaw's Sage > Aquatic Abyss. It's so damn atmospheric and creepy.

DKC3 is thematically really, really weird. It spontaneously changes from the most upbeat game in the series to borderline steampunk and horror themes at times (THAT FUCKING SAW LEVEL).

And Schorch 'n Torch is . . . amazing.

The Legend of BorkBork: BorkBorkity Borking
Scorch and Torch followed by Amiss Abyss = A mind explosion followed by soothing bliss.

David Wise is amazing. Thread title nails it. Thank you for the links, OP & contributors!

This is some of the best video game music i've ever heard.

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about Rayman Legends Wii U.
Looks like the great piplupwater has stopped for now. Need sleep anyway, but it was really cool getting the songs incrementally. :p

You know that feeling when you hear a track and it's so good you want people to focus on that, listen to that, love that beyond all the others? Problem here is EVERY SINGLE TRACK is that good.

You weren't wrong to hype this track up. It's so damn good! When we got word of Wise returning, I was especially hoping to hear some original water level music that'd rival Aquatic Ambience and Water World, and to say he delivered is an understatement.

High-Tide Ride is now up

Do not be deceived -- this piece is INTENSE

Been waiting for this one too, it's much lighter on melodic content than a lot of the others but that's what I like about it. love how it changes in tone to fit with the level.

"Ha! What a stooory, Mark!"

"Oh hai Neiteio!"

Sorry I couldn't resist :p

But yeah thanks for linking all this, I only listened to a few seconds of each track to get a small glimpse and not spoiling myself, I'm really happy that Tropical Freeze was made, this game is like a full-scale magical throwback to my childhood and it's glorious! :D (I missed out on Returns for now aside from playing it at a friends place every now and then :( )

Edit: Now whenever I close my eyes I see a beautiful savannah at sunset while hearing David Wise's music... I think I have DKC Syndrome o.o And oh my god... dat
jazzy
remix of Stickerbrush Symphony in the ending... :O

It blows my mind that David Wise didn't work on Perfect Dark or Timesplitters.

I always thought those games had that "Rare sound" to them.

Grant Kirkhope, my homeboy, is just as much important as Wise --maybe even more-- to the classic Rare sound experience.

This thread is reminding me how much trouble I am having seeing some hyperbole as purposefully ironic or just as hyperbolic craziness.

Microsoft more or less directly preventing Wise from scoring games for over 10 years should be on trial for crimes against humanity!

Seriously, I have no idea why they didn't make better use of him. Was there something going on that stopped him from composing for big titles or were they really that oblivious that they didn't ask him to make soundtracks for any of their games?

Every single Xbox and Xbox 360 title he was assigned to after the MS buyout ended up being cancelled one way or another... :/

Edit: Imagine working on stuff for 10 years... and none of it ever coming out to public... It's no wonder he left.

How this man does not get hired more often is both a mystery and travesty.

Edit: Just finishing the last available tune on here. More! I do not in any way say this lightly, but it is either extremely close to or has surpassed DKC2 already just judging by the tracks posted.

Ha! :) So you listened to all of the tracks in the OP? Which ones are your favorites?

Every time I hear Wing Ding, Busted Bayou or Mangrove Cave Underwater, I end up liking them more and more! Those three tracks alone are enough to make me love the OST for this game.

Awesome soundtrack overall...I would say it is a bit less consistent than DKC2 sountrack, but it still got some amazing tunes. Another minor issue I had was the famous flute, which I feel was a bit overdone, being somehow present in many of the tracks. Yet, it still isn't enough to make me dislike them

so I just finished listening to piplup's whole playlist (I couldn't resist) and this OST is seriously in contention for GoaT status. and there's still more left. obviously some hindsight is needed to properly assess that but still. good stuff here folks. and according to the sales in Japan liking a David Wise OST is now hipster-worthy so let us all revel in our non-conformity

seriously though, as a musician I wish I had sheet music for these songs so I could properly analyze them
