Someone needs to take one for the team and post a thread about the unfortunate and untimely passing of Jon Lovitz. He will be missed, especially for such quintessential roles as Benchwarmers, Farce of the Penguins, and (a personal favorite) Grown Ups 2.

RIP

No matter how much garbage he's in, Lovitz gets a lifelong pass for punching Andy Dick.

Also that performance by Paul Simon and the band was pretty smooth. I liked the show, though it was too much filler with old clips.

Only if I get to punch Andy Dick.

Gimme a few weeks; I'll bait him out with some painkillers mixed with tequila, a blow-up doll with a slight resemblance to Kathy Griffin, and a cardboard cut-out of Barbara Walters. All underneath a cardboard box trap. He's wily, but he'll never figure it out.

On topic edit: Martin Short needs to host again. The show has been lacking energy with most of these new people. Or maybe just having someone actually funny will help.

Rat Race is, to this day, a personal favorite.

Just remembered Lovtiz is in The Brave Little Toaster. That film holds a special place in my part.

As far as hosts go, I would've liked too see more of Steve Martin and Tom Hanks, though. Actually, it was kind of light in terms of sketches, which is too bad. I guess it's a miracle that they got most people to return (especially those on rocky terms), regardless.

Does anyone know if there will be a 50th anniversary?

50 is a pretty major anniversary in general. I'd be surprised if they didn't have one. Especially since NBC has to love those viewership numbers.

It's a decade out but honestly, I don't see why there wouldn't be but at the same time, 10 years is a long time.

Sort of like that joke Larry David and Seinfeld made, "it's like we had the last tickets to Disneyland before it burned down". SNL could be gone before it's golden anniversary.

Doubt it tho. SNL is like cockroaches, they would be around after nuclear holocaust.

It's on at 11:30pm on a Saturday Night. It's not like NBC is ever really expecting huge ratings. With the clout Lorne has at that network now SNL will likely keep running as long as Lorne wants.

I have a feeling they did a 40 special because someone huge from snl is really sick or something bad is going to happen. Why not wait for the 50th? Snl is owned by nbc, who is owned by comcast, who owns most Americans internet and cable. The show isnt going anywhere. Maybe Lorne is retiring or passing it on?

Word on the street is that Lorne is giving Colin Jost the reins next year.

They didn't do a 30th and who knows how many of the cast members from the "old days" would still be around for the 50th.

NBC would have to be nuts to let SNL disappear from it's airwaves, it's a huge brand name that everyone knows. It doesn't matter how good or bad the ratings are, the second someone says cancelled in regards to SNL there's gonna be an outcry.

Also the show is known for refreshing both it's writers and it's cast every several years, so it always has the potential to be fresh, although whether or not it actually does this will perpetually be up for debate.

All I wanted was Celebrity Jeopardy. It was literally ALL I wanted. And it was fantastic. <3

Eddie Murphy's bum ass didn't do shit. Just got his dick sucked off by a fellow comedy legend and accepted an invisible award and then left. Seriously bro? For real? :|

The interaction between Seinfeld and Larry David was brilliant too. The chemistry between them is off the charts.

He's just not funny any more. He even sort of acknowledged it by saying how everyone was celebrating stuff he did 35 years ago.

That was so good. There was hardly a joke or anything but I rewatched it multiple times because I found it so hilarious.

Ever since that guy on reddit who posted that story of Fallon getting crazy on coke at a party (and people finding other ancient internet posts telling the same kind of stories back when he was just getting his start on SNL) that's all I can see when I look at that guy.

But yeah, I'd love some footage of that entire thing. Sounds amazing.

watched it last night on PVR so I can skip to commercials and dull musical guests (Kanye WTF)

I liked the show for the most part, it was good to see Adam Sandler return to being actually funny for a few minutes again, Opera Man always kills it.

Seeing old cast members and old reoccurring guests participate was great. OMG Norm McDonald killed me.

But Jimmy Fallon again takes up way too much space, STFU Fallon, it's not about you. Fuck the Tonight Show

SNL is alongside Today Show and Tonight Show their iconic shows that will outlive us all. SNL is not going to go away.

Why do only one when you can do both? If you think there's not going to be an even bigger show (two 3.5 hour specials probably, or a whole week of programming) for 50 you're out of your mind.

I was responding to another poster. Of course he participated in the show, he is the most visible SNL alum at the moment and with NBC ties remaining.

That wasn't apparent without a quote, and I don't know anything about you to infer that you would make the assumption that he appeared if you hadn't watched the whole thing.

Probably not, but once Lorne is gone, it will not be the same show. I think it is a big question mark whether it sinks or swims.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage

Or because they knew getting everyone together would draw ratings and give, at the very least, a short-term boost to ratings for the actual show.

Please no. No.

...and that, kids, was the first time I sucked a dick for crack

BS.

Arsenio Hall and many others have said specifically how funny Murphy still is today. I just think he hates the media and attention because of his numerous scandals.
