Fuck me, 3.1K...
That's 1TB SSD?

I imagine that Canadian version will be up to 3.5k. I would love this laptop but there's no way I could ever afford it.

It is a 1TB SSD, according to the tech specs on the site

EDIT: oh how wrong I am, turns out the 512GB is 3.5k already. I'm assuming the 1TB one would be 4.1K

Deep into his 30th decade
I need a new laptop soon, I am putting away some money for one of these. Hopefully around the new year I can afford the 16GB 512GB i7 version.

I do a lot of programming, need a bit of power in a laptop.

I'm stunned any of you expected more than a 950 tbh. 940 would only be slightly disappointing. Gaming perf on a 970m would probably be horribly crippled by the ulv cpu in the clip board. Its a bottleneck issue as much as it is a cost / battery one.

Why? I assumed something between 950 and 960. This is even below that.

Still curious to see the benchmarks and how it compares to MacBook pro's spec.

Would that be able to run MineCraft?

Integrated runs minecraft well enough, this would murder it.

Beyond 950 level, only having 1gb would be a serious perf issue for some applications. Finding out it was a 1gb gpu, and knowing that these always have weak cpus implied probably a 950 at the upper end.

Will be exciting to see what they do with later version of this thing then. 940m doesn't tell me too much but yeah benchmarks do. I'll wait for them.

940m is disappointing, but honestly it would have been less disappointing if there hadn't been that crap about it being based on the 960m.

940 is much more realistic considering the form factor.

940m is quite the disappointment holy shit

edit: looks like I won't be getting a surface book then, Surface Pro 4 it is

no point having a dGPU at all if it is going to choke on Beyond Earth at 720p

What is it with old people using tablets for photos...

They're portable, lightweight, often with you, and take good photos with a large viewfinder. When I had a crappy smartphone I often used my iPad for photos. I still use it for photos around the house.

By the way, I have a selfie stick, and I love it

meh. the card i have right now ran maxed out mgsv at 900p30 w/ dips for comparison.

unless you have a potato from 2011 your phone will take better pictures than any tablet.

I have played around with this thing at a Microsoft Store near me and it's kinda off. I was really excited when I heard about it. I know it's a hybrid but it seems really top heavy. The keyboard is great but it's also quite hollow. Basically you don't really get a great since of balance when you use it. For example as I moved it back and forth the top would kind of wobble and it made me anxious like I was going to snap it off. The way the hinge works it seems like it's taking all the weight of the top. I know this sounds weird but you have to use it to really get it. I think the base is a fantastic idea. I just wish they would improve the design a bit with more weight distribution.

Honestly I just wanted Quad Core i7 and 16GB RAM.

The more I think about it, the more I feel like MS have made slight compromise here again to keep the screen detachable. I truly want a powerful surface book which has same power as Dell XPS 15 (announced last week) and MacBook Pro 15".

I tried SB today at store and hollyfuck, this thing is dead gorgeous and I can even open it with one hand. Hinge is pretty incredible. Only complain was the screen is bit wobbly. Specially if you will be using it in bus or something that moving constantly, other than that no issue.

lol no way in hell I will have to disagree here. Its wobbly as I said but in no way in any shape it felt like it will snap off. This thing screams premium. When you put the screen on or take it off you get that strong feeling.

Your absolutely right 100 percent. I was being a bit dramatic. I'm a paranoid techie when it comes to that stuff. Its a beautiful design. I too want it to have the power of an a 15" MBP. That's what I have. I'm an Apple user and I'm continually impressed by Microsoft's hardware. They're destroying Apple in terms of innovation. A few more iterations and I could see myself jumping ship. iPads are just useless to me. Mark my words, iOS and OSX are going to merge at some point. The survival of the iPad is clinging to this. Look at the iPad Pro.

Keep in mind it's 1GB GDDR5 instead of 2GB DDR3, so less memory, but faster. It has correspondingly higher memory bandwidth and the other stats are similar but not quite identical. We will need to see SB benches, especially since we can't guarantee that 940ms have been benched with the same CPU.

Yeah this is definitely a first gen product all around
I expect the next iteration to knock it out of the park though

I played with it at the ms store today and it is quality all around. If it wasn't for the fact that dell xps 15 looks amazing in every way I would have preordered the surface book on the spot.

Lol thank god I check this thread again. Finally convince gf to use my mbp so I can get this bad boy but I'll wait for benchmark or next years iteration. I do like my SP but would be nice to have a laptop-tablet in one system.

Checked it out at ms store today. Was very nice. News of the 940 almost seals me canceling my preorder for an xps 15 though.

I love how everyone hates the dGPU now but during the reveal everyone was impressed with the livedemos of the 3D rendering and that video editing software. It's a custom GPU. Wait for impressions and real life benchmarks.

Yeah, that's what I'm waiting on. The benchmarks and such should be hitting next week, one would think.

Too bad Intel doesn't have any skylake processors with the Iris Pro 6200 embedded GPU, those are faster than the 940m I think.

This is a great laptop for anyone who uses their desktop as their primary powerhouse or doesn't care too much about the graphics power so much as the fact that it has a dedicated GPU at all.

Custom or not, if it has the same number of CUDA cores as the 940M and 1 GB of GDDR5 we can already get a feel for the bottleneck.

naw, there are dozens of laptops that can fit that. this is a great laptop for the gamer who already has a console and only wants to play the handful of pc games they couldn't get on consoles (stuff like cs:go, LoL, etc.)

There are plenty of incredible desktop setups you can get for $1500 that would more than fit that criteria!

It's really not a great laptop for that specific use.
