First Xbox One S impressions from a lucky Norwegian

Great to hear! Tuesday can't come soon enough.

I would buy a Ps4 slim if they make one but it will probably be louder than a Concord lifting off.
As said before in this topic the biggest complain I have with the Ps4 is the loudness so for the Xbox going slimmer I wasnt sure that would benefit the major advantage. But it really stays quiet. Ofcourse the question is will it stay quiet after 2/3 months of heavy usage

I agree. As funny as fuck the OT title is, we don't need to feed trolls. That thread was bad and fed trolls especially the OP if it. No need to flame it more.

I like the one that said the s does not stand for Scorpio.

You would have a point if those same trolls weren't gonna come into the thread anyway and say the exact same stuff regardless of what the title is.

Changing the title to something "less inflammatory" isn't gonna change that, and I'd bet you it wont even reduce it.

Regardless, if that's what the person making the thread wants, I understand.

Any news on how loud the console is compared to original and ps4?

Tempted but I need to save money for psVR, but could put Xbox into new bedroom and put this under TV in living room.

Someone here said it's quieter than the original X1 which is already pretty quiet. So it should be considerably more quiet than ps4.

Anyone happens know whats the voltage range on it? I was wondering if its 100v to 240v? That way I can get my from the states and be able to just change the plug on it. I know the PS3/4 is like that. The Xbox 360 an the One aren't like that. You had to buy a brick from that country in order to use it without a voltage converter.

EDIT: Just saw this post. Thanks

Just saw this Xbox One S unboxing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KR13DZMG0nk

@2:45 it looks to me like the power/voltage rating is 100-240V 50/60Hz 1.8A? Compared to a PS4 CUH-1115 which is labeled: 100-240V ~ 2.5-1.15A 50/60Hz 250W.

Does this give a clue about anything?

I've never had a problem with fan noise besides the fact that sometimes it sounded like the fan was slightly swiping some plastic or something that was pretty fucking annoying.

Also, sometimes when a disc would load it would rattle really loudly for a few minutes. 98% of the time it was completely silent though.

Butt fuck that VCR though, the time for upgrade is now! Can't wait for my fuckin' S!

Since this is the most active Xbox S thread until the OT, I figured I would ask you all some advice....

Apparently, I have 2 2TB Xbox One S systems on reserve at Gamestop. I had gone in when they were suppose to start and the guy said it was not in the system yet, but he tried on-line and he said it did not work. They took my name and number down and I got a call 2 days later saying they can do it in-store now, so I went down and was one of the first to pre-order. Today, I walked in to ask my balance and what I had on some Gift Cards. The manager calls my account up and says "Hey, you have 2 on reserve". He said they had sold out of the reserve units within a few days of them taking pre-orders and that they have been getting a lot of requests. He said that people specifically want the 2tb model.

So, now I have 2 on reserve, but only need one of them. I am not one of those that turns around and sells things for a profit. My question is, are these as limited as this Gamestop is making it out to be? Will we have poor Gaf member wanting one, but not being able get one due to the limited availability? If I buy the 2nd one and someone here wants it, I have no issue selling it at the face value, but I don't want to buy it and it collect dust. I guess I could always return it or just pass on it all together. It is just that the Manager told me that they will most likely not get anymore and the only other way to get a 2tb one now (from them at least) is pre-ordering the 2tb Gears bundle.

My lawn mower is more silent than a PS4. The OG Xbox One is almost dead silent and I hear the Xbox One S is even better. My actual PS4 is not too bad, but I have some friends that have PS4's that sound like a jet engine, especially when playing Uncharted.

So here's the thing with the title, I don't want to use the flak one because I don't want people to think about Microsoft's controversial ad when they enter the thread; the S does many things good and has a lot of improvements, those good things shouldn't be marred by the ad.
Let me know.

Yeah I'd leave it out, thread should focus on the console and it's features. E3 visual is irrelevant.

I love your OT suggestion overall though, it just seems to me on the surface it would be like a beacon to some of the trolls. I like it though overall, made me lol when I first read it as well. But I agree, that gif is going to be on almost every page for a while when the OT goes up regardless. So I get your angle on it as well. I think Etta is the one making the OT, so I am sure he will decide what is best for the OT title.

Any word on if there's any minor performance improvements e.g when navigating the dash?
From the previous page:

So I have some comparisons, not much and the difference isn't that big from each other:

Booting Rise of the Tomb Raider from disk: - Slim: 15.64 seconds - OG: 16.82 seconds

Rebooting: - Slim: 1 minute 26.94 seconds - OG: 1 minute 36.56 seconds

Plex: - Slim: 8.70 seconds - OG: 8.52 seconds

Seems to be marginally quicker but not sure if that will also be the case for using the dashboard.

Gorgeous console but I'm not buying it myself, had enough of the brand. Not renewing my live after October either. Just not enjoying Xbox as I once did.

There will be plenty of these around to purchase.

You can still pre-order everywhere.

Gamestop is just talking out of their ass like always.

I'm sure GameStop is only getting them to fill the reserves on hand, and that all the extras probably were recently reserved.

So for that store it's probably true, but that doesn't mean they will be limited everywhere

Terrible product, in my experience. Sometime ineffective, sometimes damaging.

Stickers are my arch-pet peeve.

From a lifelong sticker slayer, take it from me: Naptha.

Lighter fluid its the cheapest, cleanest and least damaging goo remover ever made.

First, remove the sticker properly to leave the least glue possible (as a matter of principle, is not necessary for the naptha to work). Then hit it with a naptha soaked cloth. Then wipe with a water dampened cloth. Then wipe it dry.

Done perfectly, every time.

I had partial success with rubbing alcohol, but yeah lighter fluid seems to work really well from what I heard

This was the case at my GameStop. Have 6 pre-orders (one of them mine!) and we only got 6 in. No more on the way at the moment.

PS: I had some fun selling Song of the Deep!

Remember this guy?

http://www.minimallyminimal.com/2012/7/3/the-next-microsoft.html

He shared his design ideas for MS openly. MS hired him.

He's been working at hardware and design language division since 2013 and was involved in the Xbox One S.

Of note, he is heavily influenced by renowned Braun designer Dieter Rams. Many of the people in the Microsoft design group are. Just looking up Rams work you can clearly see the influences.

That is awesome, good for him. I remember going through his stuff many years ago, he has a wonderful eye for style.

Yep, as soon as I saw the new (fantastic) design I knew this guy was involved, hopefully we see more MS hardware designs from him, love it.

the lunar white controler has gold triggers and d pad, the one that is packed in doesn't but it has the same grip I think and support bluetooth.

I think the grip on the new ones is just textured plastic rather than the rubber grips on the Lunar White.

Is this worth a purchase or should I wait for Scorpio? I really want to play Some Xbox one games.
Buy now... Trade in the S for Scorpio. Makes no sense waiting over a year to play all the great games that exists and will come to Xbox. Just buy :)

Well there are no official measurements, so I took the size of an USB port (4.5mm) and used this as a reference and I'm at 4.5cm which is 0.8cm smaller in height than a PS4. But of course unless someone accurately measures it, this is no proof or something.
