"Thousands of internet trolls paid to generate news out of Russia."

Yikes.

I mean; I knew r/the_donald had a hand in making r/politics unbearable during the election but this explains so much; also how r/politics got back to decent so FAST after the election. Literally because the Russian trolls stopped.

Yep, it was crazy how prevalent the Russian trolls were on all social media, only to essentially immediately stop after election day.

You could see it with Trump's tweets by looking at the replies. During the election, it was nothing but meme nonsense. That also stopped very quickly, and now nearly every reply is negative.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Some great quotes from Burr just now re: Russia's "overt and covert" involvement in not just the potential US scale of power but Germany and France. Character assassination brought up as part of it.

Getting a real sense he does give a shit.

Burr saying all the right things but will wait for the receipts.

For sure, but its a good start.

I hope Burr gets to play himself in the inevitable movie. He's got that stolid "Russians don't take a dump without a plan, son" thing going on.

Lol, poor Nunes. Tarnished his entire political career and cred in one week, in an attempt to obstruct investigations, only to have the Senate investigation be super serious and play it straight.

Was the 7 days of breathing room worth it, Nunes?

That 7 days stopped a lot of progress.

.@SenatorBurr: ”It's safe by everybody's judgement that the Russians are actively involved in the French election"

eeeeeeewwwww

Why did he vote for him i wonder.... the signs were ALL there during the election

Even if you selfishly wanted Trump's populist street cred to help you push your own selfish GOP agenda.... it was still the wrong decision
Duder is from North Carolina, where Trump won by what 5 points? He still needs to cater to Trump fanbase that voted for him.

On the other hand, at least Republicans can't claim the Senate investigations are a partisan hit job against Trump if the chair himself admitted voting for him.

Warner re Russia probe: "This is the most important think I've ever taken on in my public life....We're going to get it right."

Burr: "Russians are actively involved in the French elections."

Man... they really did jump on the cyber warfare train in Russia but not in the way people anticipated

Its kind of brilliant

Instead of identity theft, hacking electrical grips etc... They sow propaganda and misinformation on social media

Along with all the other mafia shit on our soil of course

Warner: "I believed at the beginning that this was the most important thing I've done in my public life, I believe that more now than when we started."

Missed some of that briefing, but I saw no real indication how much the investigation is about collusion... They could sound that ominous and just be talking about Russian interference.

The changing of the Republican platform in regards to Ukraine being outside the scope of the senate investigation makes me wonder.

Warner: reports of 1000 paid trolls working out of Russia to influence US election in swing states w/ fake news. The comm. will investigate.

I read a (translated) interview with (one of) Putin's cyber advisors some time ago. I can't find it now:(

He basically said that within a year they will be able to talk to Americans directly on a totally different level than before. I think it's pretty obvious that Russian propaganda and misinformation has crossed over into the US.

He made a reference to Obama trying to reset relations by comparing it to Soviet Union negotiation for nuclear disarmament up until their first atomic bomb test in 1949.

So basically they were planning this shit while pretending to want to improve relations.

They were very clear that the initial public hearing would be about the Russian interference in the election. Specifically the technology used, methods, etc. Not just in the US but the whole world.

The scope includes the collusion aspects but they're starting at the interference itself.

Seeing that his hometown paper dogged him out is so refreshing. Hopefully he has ended his re-election chances.

Also not surprising to see the Senate playing up how big this is. It literally has larger implications than even Watergate. Trump has to be sweating bullets.
