I don't think it's black and white. On the surface, it is. But early on, I said this:

It's not so much that I worry that I'll get tunneled on for my Palmer thoughts, but that we might fixate in general. I think you're conflating my responses on that, but that's probably my fault for not being clear regarding which things were my reactions to how I went down in anime and my concerns here regarding Palmer, so I'll go ahead and outline them, partially because it looks like it's not going in the direction that concerned me (and because Palmer is still here - hi, Palmer!) in a reduced capacity, and I was most worried about what might happen in a Palmer absence):

My biggest concern was that, lacking other information that might move the game forward, someone would start a lynch train on Palmer since he’s either safe-ish because self-claimed no PR and so if they’re wrong and we mislynch, as it likely on d1 anyway, we don't lose anything in terms of PR. And if such a train happened to be right, and he lied, we nail scum or neutral.

But I could also see, if such a train started, someone else saying wait! Palmer is away past the end of the day phase, so we shouldn’t lynch him since he can’t defend himself! Then we spend time arguing this (instead of any other things that might come up, as we tend to fixate) and maybe we lynch or maybe we don’t, but we don’t hunt scum unless scum does something obvious during that discussion. That's my concern and why I was hesitant to even say much in case in saying it, I caused it. Also, I think Palmer is pretty useful to keep around generally; he will inspire interaction. This doesn't mean I trust him. I just means he gets people talking.

This is all of course super what-if and I don’t know how role madness usually goes (watching Arkham but have never played it) so maybe it’s just random paranoia, but d1 is such a crapshoot. The thing is, I believe Palmer is more than clever enough to have also considered possible fallout from his claim. Dragonz called him “appeasing” and I’ll go one better: he’s being super helpful, explaining the game, posting info, offering tips, and then claiming and saying if he were us, he’d want that counterclaim if there is one.

Is he being a standout townie, knowing he’s leaving, knowing there’s new people in role madness who may need the help? Or is he playing an elaborate game of distraction and using the fact that he’s going to be away to get to day 2 in order to guarantee at least one use of some weird night action? If it's some weird gambit, I'd expect it to be that.

Re: 30 - I think that's fair and there's reason there to be sus... but my own "defense" of him, personally, is based almost completely in his saying he has a deadline. That can't last forever. I have a much bigger problem with people who just don't turn up or even bother to say "hey, I have shit going on, give me a minute."

You still managed to post a good deal, so it's not equal. But if we give consideration to others who are gonna be out, it should be the same. Should I live so long (and I doubt I will), I have a conference next week and will be much less present. I'd like consideration of my own then.

I really hate how town makes read lists with no information but gut feelings and then later fills it in with nebulous 'why's' while saying whoops after a mislynch. It's the same reason I disliked Palmer calling my 5 posts since subbing in coasting without any evidence. It's lazy and arbitrary as fuck.

I'm willing to vote for 30 (even though I could see his frustration with Palmer, it's true that he has been coasting) and Acohrs (partly because I don't believe Palmer when he tries to clear BB but scum reads Swamped, while he's also just coasting without any real contributions)
