I think I just heard a hundred pundits climax simultaneously.
The Republican party was mostly about abolitionism in 1860, not sure if it make too much sense to go that far back.
I would love to see them go back to Teddy Roosevelt (though that would never happen as it would make them pretty much Democrat) or at least Eisenhower.
I would welcome a Bush I type candidate as well.
I bet that made CNN wet.
Voting just completed in tiny NH town of 10 people came back 5-5, CNN immediately ceasing on it to go on with their horserace narrative. It's not even a joke as they literally said it and even briefly pondered whether it mean anything that more independents went to Obama.

Dear fellow voters, as it's election day I wish you all safe travel to the polls. It's been a hard and long election for all of us. It's time that we end this.
However the election tomorrow does not stop change. 4 years ago Barack Obama told us that we are the change. We seem to have forgotten that in 2010, and left President Obama out in the rain without our support. Now is our time to make things right in America, as hope will never cede again to the perils of oppression. We must be the vehicles of change in our communities to stop hatred. This country needs more love for our neighbors. We, the people, need to organize our communities tomorrow to get out the vote so that we can push our legislators to put forth bills that will furthur our country's prosperity into the next century. We need to push for marriage equality, which is one pinnacle of civil rights of our time. We need to push our leaders to ensure that federal programs have the funding they need to restore people's property. Giving more aid to the poor and needy who are always on the brink of desolation. To push for better education system that we may end illetarcy in our proud nation. To ensure that health care reform stays intake as every American deserves better welfare so that we can live our lives to the fullest.
Go now, and get the vote out. Tomorrow is the beginning of our next journey in the American story.

That's pretty much all Romney has. He doesn't have any positions of his own, so he has to just keep trying to paint Obama in a negative light. It's not "Vote for me," it's "Don't vote for the other guy."

Basically. He's finally moving on to talking about his own positions, but still a lot of jabs at Obama.
No hope, just a realization that resistance is futile.
They will, once they reboot. The current Republican party throws any up and coming rockstars through their grinder.
I was really hoping that Colin Powell would fill that spot in the GOP.
But he had to go and work for Bush...

The bigger issue is that it seems all the younger Republicans these days are Tea Party extremists. I'm interested in where the GOP can possibly go as their older, more moderate members retire or just leave the party altogether.
The problem is worsened now that old people are dying and soon America will no longer have a white majority. Republicans are going to have to expand or witness a pretty slow extinction.
If the Republicans want a Rock Star, they will probably need to find a candidate that is a charismatic, non-threatening minority that still at least seems to have some conservative social values. My guess would be a Hispanic Catholic or something.

That's what a reasonable party would do, but they're not a reasonable party. They had their chance and they blew it.

Yeah, most of the younger Republicans I know are either Ron Paul types or are playing the "both sides are bad" card now.
Edit: Geez, I really should have been doing a boo/cheer count on this rally. This is getting ridiculous.

The majority will be here still before we all die. In fact, it will become even more blurred as there are more and more interracial children, and relationships.
She was popular among a very particular portion of the Republican Party. She was never big with the majority.
Unfortunately the Obama Wave voted out a lot of moderate weak-base Republicans, replaced them middle of the road weak-base Democrats, who were easily picked off by Tea Partiers.
The party NEEDS to excise the Tea Party from itself. Unfortunately the national GOP seems more interested in catering to those last 5 crazyfuck votes than the 5,000 moderate votes. They need to realize that it's okay to tell some people to fuck off from their party.
As it is right now, it's a political party that's essentially run by celebrities. The president they quote all the time is Reagan, an old senile actor. Not George 1. That should tell you something. After that, the current general of the party is Rush Limbaugh. A shock jock radio DJ. If you are a Republican and you try to disown Limbaugh, you are told to apologize to him by the national GOP party.
That's how far the party is gone.
And moderate Republicans can't start another party with a name that embodies their views because white supremacists ran around taking up every single party name. If you have a __YOURSTATE___ Party for example, it's more than likely been taken by the national Constitution Party, which is basically a KKK-Lite. (Let the irony of a national org controller state-level party names sink in)
Just had this discussion with a friend of mine on fbook. No conversing with him. They are wrong. He linked me to unskewed.
People thought the McCain loss would push Republican more towards the middle and start thinking about expanding their base -- it only made them push further to the right. But at the same time, they still pretty much gave up on Tea Party ideals. I'd like to think that this loss will make them more moderate though -- if they cannot beat an incumbent with nearly 8% unemployment then something is clearly wrong.
The danger is that their extreme pundits and AM radio fanatics will always have something to blame. They'll blame Hurricane Sandy or the 47% or they'll blame the candidate himself ("not conservative enough!"). So long as they can blame some external factor or some supposedly fixable mistake, they will believe they can keep the same platform and still win. This will prevent any kind of major change.

If you include mixed race, the white majority is supposed to end in 2050. I hope I live longer than that, but given my current age and poor habits, maybe not
Doesn't mean it won't start to have a big effect on elections sooner than that though.
