Don’t say we told you this because nobody’s supposed to know. But we’ve got some of the details of the super-secret script for the “Ghostbusters” reboot that starts filming in Boston this week.

As you know, the all-gal ghostbusters in the new flick are played by Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones and according to our script spies, Wiig and McCarthy play a pair of unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real. Flash forward a few years and Wiig lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia U. (Like the original, the story takes place in New York City, even though it’s being shot in Boston.) Which is pretty sweet, until her book resurfaces and she is laughed out of academia.

Wiig reunites with McCarthy and the other two proton pack-packing phantom wranglers, and she gets some sweet revenge when ghosts invade Manhattan and she and her team have to save the world.

Looks like it's finally happening.

EDIT Looks like filming has already begun.

This sounds fun

Just like the first movie! They filmed the outside library scene at the New York Public Library (following the movie), but the scenes in the basement of the library were in Los Angeles.

Really? Doesn't bode well...
The Sony leaks had a whole lot of women that were considered, and that apparantly turned down the movie considering most of the actual cast wasn't in the leaks. First list had Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, Melissa McCarthy, Amy Schumer and Lizzy Caplan.

If they are filming this in Boston I don't know why they don't set it in Boston, I mean M.I.T. seems a far better choice than Columbia for the source of a bunch of crazy scientists. Yes I know the original it was Columbia.

really not at all a good or bad sign. actors and actresses turn down good roles all the time for a multitude of reasons, from scheduling to pay to whatever else. it doesn't mean she thought the script was bad, and even if it did the woman who's agreed to The Amazing Spider-Man and Aloha and Movie 43 and The Help isn't exactly a reliable barometer for quality

and that's exactly why it's columbia. simple as that. The script was surely written before locations were scouted. movies do not usually shoot in the same city in which they are set.

I don't think that's a valid comparison. Hollywood productions shoot indoor scenes in L.A. all the time, but moving the entire production crew to Boston implies that they are going to shoot outdoor scenes there and pretend like it's New York. I doubt we'll see real NYC landmarks like the Public Library outside of CG stuff.

I think I saw Superman or something shooting when I went to Australia. Everyone saw yellow cabs and was confused (obviously a bit different, but the yellow cabs make things interesting)

i don't really like this cast nearly as much as the old one (especially bill murray, dan akroyd and rick moranis in their primes...hilarious)

but after spy and bridesmaids i think it will be pretty decent.

wish they replaced mckinnon or mccarthy with rose byrne though. she was the standout in spy and one of the best parts about bridesmaids too.

more likely they'll do select days and/or second unit in NYC but use largely boston exteriors.

Exterior stuff is done away from actual location all the time. like, almost no television show is shot where it's set.

best part of Neighbors too. I like McKinnon well enough but her energy is too similar to Wiig, McCarthy I haven't really seen outside of Bridesmaids and The Heat which are good so I'm fine with her. But the idea of Byrne or Caplan would've been great--they also could've theoretically gone the route of having one of them be a relative newcomer, a rising comic actor like Lauren Lapkus or Abbi Jacobson/Ilana Glazer. ah well.

the magic, wonder and beauty of having a background like New York... substituted by Boston.

I was willing to give the movie a shot, but strike one. New York is like the other Ghostbuster.

As a huge fan of the original movies I think this sucks. As a dad of a 5yr old girl I am amped for a movie that shows girls kicking ass - for her. Wish they did a squirrel girl movie. Also wish the girls in this were not the snl unfunny ones and that chick that uses her weight to get laughs.

That's true, though Rumble in the Bronx was filmed in Vancouver and near by areas, and not Toronto. As a Canadian, I find it amusing when I can spot things like landmarks, brand logos, red square mailboxes and other recognizable Canadianisms in a scene. At least they are using an American East Coast city that could be a little more passable as New York.

It's now finally hitting me that this is being made... I just fear when we get the first pics of them in uniform with the new Proton Packs and gear. I just love the kit bashed dirty feeling/look of the original stuff. I don't want to see sleek and clean packs and throwers.

It's going to be weird for the original Ghostbusters to not have really happened in this film, but to have proton packs / the logo (IF they do).

well the original Ghostbusters survived that strike being that only some exteriors were shot in NYC while major pieces, even exterior ones—like the roof of Dana's building at the end—were done Los Angeles. so things are looking up!

Filming a movie that is well known for being in New York, and putting terrible Kristen Wiig in it.

This is one big giant never from me. Even the TMNT reboot didn't make me hate it before it came out. I will never watch this movie. Change the name from Ghostbusters and make it some dumb comedy about ghosts and it's a different story.

Fuck everything about this movie.

Okay for real, the original was largely not shot in New York either. It was shot in Los Angeles. Most movies are not shot where they are set.

This level of vitriol based solely on the shooting location is hilariously whiny.

I have a feeling that something other than shooting location is the cause of the vitriol.
