these launches are always front loaded with early adopters. its the months afterwards where we'll see if they keep that momentum going.

I worked at Gamestop back when we were taking preorders on the Wii U and Vita as well. Preorders went for them both very quickly as well.

Never doubted Switch outselling on launch, since Breath of the Wild is a really strong launch game for core gamers who potentially are also willing to pay a good chunk of money for new hardware. However, I wonder what happens in April once the Zelda hype has slowed down.

[Means nothing, the Wii U was also out of stock]

I know you're just parodying possible replies, but was it? Don't know the situation in the US, but when I walked during the afternoon into a German Saturn market and saw tons of unsold Wii Us on launch day, it dawned on me that the console will utterly flop.

It is pretty shocking that it took as long as it did to sell out. I remember checking websites tye day after and most sites still had it available. This is looking like another WiiU situation where it sold out of preorder allotments but took a long time each time.

I wonder if this thing will be able to hit 1 million in the US before E3.

So is this good? Bad? Means nothing?

Well, selling all units that are currently available is at the very least not a bad thing. It does not necessarily mean good news, as we know the WiiU did the same but fell off a cliff right after launch, so we have to reserve judgment on that front, but at least it's not doing worse than WiiU as far as we can see right now (that would have been an accomplishment alright).

Yes.There were stock issues in the first month in US.

Can someone explain this photo?

I laugh everytime I see it, but I need to know the story behind it.

Lady buys shit loads of WiiU to scalp. Realizes it's not as rare of a commodity as Wii, and folks just LOLed at her while she ran to ebay. ebay took down some of her listing too. On top of that, after ebay fees, she ended up losing money.

Self-explanatory, isn't it? Women bought tons of Wii Us at launch hoping she would be able to resell them for profit. Too bad that it turned out that there actually wasn't much of a demand for Wii Us.

The fact that the switch is transforming rettbone into the new "don't count your chickens before they hatch" meme is wonderful.
Edit: or maybe that already happened, I'm out of touch

Same in Spain, I do not know of any retailers that have exhausted their allotment.

here in Germany amazon is sold out of both switch models but other lesser known retailers have stock.

my impression is that Europe so far has given a lukewarm reception.

I wonder how Japan has reacted to the SW

I wonder (but doubt) if we get allocation numbers.

Do stores hold back units for regular sales as well, or do they direct them all to preorders?

Do we know when the preorders opened for the WiiU? I found this thread that says it sold out for the WiiU on september 14th.

Edit: Someone in that thread said it sold out in 2 days, same as the Switch approximately.

If they didn't sold out everything -> Lmao DOA it's doomed
If they sold out everything -> Lmao just like the Wii U it will also be DOA it's doomed
If Gamespot wouldn't have reported anything -> Lmao they don't even care about the console it's DOA, doomed etc.

Does anyone know how long it took for launch PS4 and XB1 to sell out initial allotments? Because I remember them selling out pretty quickly and it took "several days" for the Switch to do so... Plus, as others have said, did anyone expect a new game system from Nintendo to not sell out its initial allotment?

Can't find it but didn't Nintendo tell us months ago how many units were being prepared for launch? It may have been the investors meeting.

Doesn't mean anything. All it says is that they sold their initial allotment which is good no doubt, but it tells us nothing about consumer interest beyond that. Could be another Wii U situation. No way to tell just yet.

My god at people trying to derail every single positive Switch thread. It's hilarious and pathetic at the same time.

This is NeoGAF. That said, I do think some folks have legitimate concerns. Nintendo chose to go with a very specific, different model than most are used to. When you do that, you invite criticism almost certainly.

IDGAF because I am pumped.

Pre-order success and launch sell-out won't tell us anything about a system's success.

But it tells us something about why impressing message board users with its launch reveal event is one of the least important feats a company can pull of. And shouldn't be their focus.

They'll sell out at launch. And Zelda will get its time to shine. That's a guarantee, no matter what the long term success is.

So to blow off all their big headlines for launch PR would be unwise.

Hmm. I actually saw GS was the only place that still had preorders open a few hours ago. Should've jumped on it then.

It's looking more likely I'll have to get it at a store If I find one.

She thought the Wii U was going to be like the Wii in popularity and demand so she bought a bunch to sell on EBay. Odds are she just returned them when she couldn't flip them so she was just out a few hours of time.

The big question will be the 3 or 4 weeks after the switch comes out. Is it like the Wii where you had to line up for weeks and weeks if you wanted one or is it like the Wii U where you could walk into Best Buy 3 weeks after launch and grab a system off a giant pile.

I took that picture 2 days after Christmas right after the Wii U came out. The Wii U also sold out at launch.
