Jesus Christ that's terrible. Dude was probably loving life having just got in on an exciting upstart company that could possibly change the face of gaming and then...this...

Just as much the fault of the police for participating in a god damn chase in an area with pedestrians. What did they fucking expect, that the criminals in the car they were chasing would be extra extra careful not to hit anyone or anything?

What? So the police aren't supposed to engage in any chases in any towns or cities at all, just in case the criminals are cold blooded killers? They should just let them go unless they're in the middle of the countryside in the dead of night? There was an officer involved shooting so what were they supposed to do?

Damn, that's horrible. My deepest condolences to his family and friends, hang in there and be strong for each other in these dark times. RIP

Why do police have to let these assholes that lead these chases run their course rather than just taking them out ASAP? It lets shit like this happen.

You going to blame the victim next...?

Seriously, the guy running and gunning was at fault here... The man was already making it clear he was going to do anything to get away, all the more reason to have tried to catch him ASAP instead of letting him get away to hurt more people later.

RIP.

This hits close to home for me, because I work in Santa Ana. And you really do have to watch out when you're walking around, because drivers don't stop for shit. I have almost been hit twice while out walking on lunch breaks...both times while in a crosswalk too.

Many cities' police forces, including LA, aren't allowed to participate in high speed chases anymore.

why don`t you go fuck yourself, the police are not responsible. The fucking driver in the car is 100% responsible end of story.

He wasn't employed by Occulus Rift but made things for it?

He was part of the company. You can see him in Oculus VR company photos.

It's 100% the fault of the driver, but the police also probably should not be leading a wild chase through a busy area with pedestrians all around.

It's unfortunate on all accounts and I hope for a bright future to all affected by his death.

It's sad that he will never see the fruition of his work... I truly believe the Oculus is the next great breakthrough in videogames and will have a huge role in shaping the future of the gaming industry and entertainment as a whole.
He did well in life, better than he will ever know.

100% Agreed. This is going to change the gaming industry.

What? "Officer-involved shooting" means a cop shot someone, not the other way around.

OP's link has been updated with confirmation and a statement from Oculus.

"Andrew was a brilliant computer graphics engineer, an avid photographer and hiker who loved nature, a true loyal friend, and a founding member of our close-knit Oculus family," the company said in a statement.

A grief counselor was available for coworkers, as they learned of Reisse's death. Some of the coworkers said they have known Reisse since college and have worked with him at multiple companies.

"Andrew's contributions span far and wide in the video game industry. His code is embedded in thousands of games played by millions of people around the world," the statement said. "Words can not express how sorely he will be missed or how deeply our sympathy runs for his family."

People die all the time, but this hits closer to home. Really sad.

RIP... is it bad that i was imagining a guy wearing the Rift while walking across the street oblivious to what's going on?

wait.. yes it is. that's horrible news. some kid just got hit by a hit n run across the street from my condo. the randomness of what occurs on this planet is so damn cruel.

This was my first thought too.

Yikes. It's been bad recently for middle-aged Japanese developers dying of illness, but this is just as horrific. It's 1 of the most unfortunate ways to go, too.

Sincere sadness here. Good luck to his friends and family, and peace to him in the afterlife.

Wish people would start blaming those that cause the actual problems. This shifting of the blame to others is really disheartening.
