I can honestly say that driving these cars is a thousand times better than controlling that piece of shit in mavis beacon. I had mario teaches typing too, but I remember having to get my dad to type for me because I couldn't get to the thwomp level on my own ;_;

That's why I love living in the Bay Area.

This is OT but Robert, what do you think about the prop 8 decision? My area was completely covered in Yes on 8 signs. I felt like I was the only one voting no.

It's pretty sad, and I don't see how, short of a mega controversial Supreme Court decision, it will get fixed. I think the California strategy, whereby activists pushed the issue up to the courts and pissed all the state's conservatives off, really backfired.

I find it difficult to believe women have it any harder in the industry. There are notably less female higher ups in the industry, but there are also far less women who play games. Less women play games, so less women want to work in gaming.

A lot of the big games from last year had women in major positions, Amy Hennig was the Game Director of Uncharted, Kim Swift headed Portal, Melissa Miller played a large role in BioShock, and I believe that team had a female producer heading the sound design. They're not all like Jade Raymond with promo photos posted on every page their game is named.

For me it's all about Typing of the Dead. I actually learned how to touch type playing that game on the Dreamcast in college. I pointer finger typed through three years of an english major until that game came out.

Have you seen the picture on here of the Yes on 8 mission statement but whenever it says gay marriage it's photoshopped to say interracial marriage. It reads like a flashback to the 40's.

I actually cheated in my computer class since I was such a poor typer back then. That class was great because after cheating my way to finish early, I just played Oregon Trail for the remaining time. I only learned to type fast once I started playing more online PC games and realized that typing fast between kills was a skill I needed.

This is what made me start typing faster as well. I still haven't learned to type properly, but still get about 50 wpm.

I can't type without looking at the keyboard as well every couple seconds as well.

I am sure part of the issue is that you want something that people browsing through iTunes or a podcast directory would immediately know that it is a PC-related podcast. So something stupid or obscure probably wouldn't work.

regarding the 'girls & gaming' discussion... I really dig those CS clans that are all girls and tries to pretend they aren't doing it because they like attention. I saw some ad for a show on mtv(I think?) where they would follow just such a clan in their role shattering gaming careers of head-shooting pimple-faced dudes and of course partying all through the night at hott clubs. EMPOWERMENT, GRRRLS.

Oh shit that game's fun. I realised a few months ago that I had not one, but two Dreamcast Keyboards in my cupboard, so me and my buddy played co-op all day.

Sometimes I get the impression that Ryan is embarrassed about video game culture and the fact that he works at a gaming site

I think he secretly wishes he worked in an academic field of some sort...yet he works at 1up (which is not bad)

I remember him talking about going to Ren Faire or something like that

This might be the reason for his constant silence and his sometimes pompous attitude

I doubt that, he's bragged about his comic collection & game collection (when asked of course). He doesn't play a lot of new PC games, if this were legendary thread you'd see how talkative he can be. What he needs to do is branch out into more PC genres or play more games besides WoW.

I feel like ryan is just one of those dudes who like's to be around discussion and just takes everything in. I have friends like that. they will comment once in awhile when something comes up that they feel passionate about but overall they geniunly enjoy watching everyone else conversate.

In some weird way he brings his own flavor to the podcast. It works.
