What is Banshee?

Banshee is a balls to the wall pulp action series that airs Friday nights on Cinemax. Absolutely the most brutal show on television, it's like watching a visceral live action graphic novel where people get punched, kicked, stabbed, blown up, crushed, and otherwise beaten to a pulp every week. It's not all violence though - the show has an entertaining cast of characters consisting of a mix of Native Americans, Amish, Russian Gangsters, and Crossdressers, all of whom can throw out amusing insults and comments just as well as punches. Also, nudity. Lots and lots of nudity.

Season 2 will premiere in the Spring of 2014.

Emmy winner Zeljko Ivanek is making tracks to Cinemax’s hit drama Banshee to play a pivotal character from the comic book.

The Damages alum will appear in

After Russell Means' character Benjamin Longshadow passed away in the Cinemax series "Banshee," the Native American actor passed away in real life on Oct. 22, 2012. Now Means' son, Tatanka Means, will have a role in the series' upcoming second season.

Tatanka will appear in approximately
five episodes in the second season of "Banshee." His character, Hoyt Rivers, will be the Head of Security for Anthony Ruvivar's Alex Longshadow, who is the son of the elder Means' Benjamin on the Cinemax series. This is the first of several roles that will be cast for a "Banshee" storyline that includes the Native American community.

Season One is now available for purchase on DVD and Blu ray! Buy now on Amazon!

Job is awesome. Beating up nazis is awesome. Carrie/Anna is awesome. Hood is Dalton awesome. Proctor is a goofy sort of awesome. Brutal, well-choreographed fight scenes are awesome. So much awesome in Banshee, guys. Watch it.

It was probably the biggest TV surprise for me in a long ass time. Well, this and Orphan Black. I saw the trailer and thought "Oh god, that looks dumb. So fucking dumb." Especially Job. I thought Job would be lame. But he's the best.

fun fact: the albino was a crew member of the Enterprise in the new Star Trek movie.

He also served as the motion capture actor for God of War's Kratos.

So watch Banshee if you want to see real-life Kratos in the buff, fucking up real people real good.

Waiting for a sale on Season 1 Blu Ray.

Really want to watch, but I don't want to spend the monthly fee on Cinemax for only 1 show.

Loved the first season. Quickly became one of my favorite series on the air. The creators understand perfectly that makes pulp fun. The setting is filled with great ideas for potential new plots, the characters are strong and varied and the action (both the script and execution) is propably the best on TV (the only real rival is Strike Back, another Cinemax series).

It was such a pleseant surprise. Can't wait till S2.

This show is my guilty pleasure. I just watched the pilot on a whim and got hooked more and more the longer I watched through the season. Can't wait for season 2

More of Burton, the hot bowtie clad psycho, please.

I explain this show to my friends as: Cheesy 80s action film + Vendetta fueled comic book + Soft core porn = Awesome TV show

Do hope the deputy sheriff gets her tits out this season...she must have been the only female lead that didn't in season 1.

Yes..I am that shallow.

Everybody is on Team Kelly, even those who don't know. Girl got it rough around the end of the season, though, so I hope things get better for her during S2.

Also, I want to see more interactions with the local neo-Nazi scum. That episode was soo good.

Just finished the season and it was fucking awesome. The fight scenes are probably the best I've ever seen on TV. The only char I don't like is Carrie/Ana. Her son is back and she risks her life for Hood, the same guy she betrayed a couple of episodes earlier. Also doesn't help that they have 0 chemistry together.

Season 2 teaser:
Was that Oddete naked?

Hyped! I really hope we see more of the native american girl that appeared later in the 1st season. She's could be near Rebecca's level of hotness.

I loved that episode where the big Ukrainian guy and the lady beat the shit out if each other for what seemed like half the episode. So over the top it was amazing.

I watched the first episode and didn't find it hugely engaging, and it got lost in the shuffle.

Worth persevering? Make a case, sirrah.

Yes, absolutely. It's one of the most enjoyable new series I've seen in a long time. The lead actress is phenomenal, the supporting cast is great, and it's got a fantastic sense of humor at its core and all of it is wrapped up in this deliciously taught sci fi conspiracy thriller wrapping paper, complete with all sorts of crazy twists and turns, but most importantly, it's a show that knows exactly what it is and it never overextends itself into silly-ville. It's very tightly plotted and all of the reveals feel earned and satisfying.

It's just tremendously entertaining.

It's as good as or better than Banshee.

To be fair though, they're both very very different types of shows.
