There was a dreamcast emulator running on a single core galaxy s 1 at almost full speed. Vita is about 10x more powerful than a galaxy s 1.
There's no Dreamcast emulator running on Vita though.

Also, this thing runs Smash pretty horrible, probably most N64 games have problems on that emulator.

Depending on how well it runs those emulators, how cheap it is, and how sturdy the machine itself is, I would legitimately consider purchasing one of these over a Vita or even an original PSP.

Open platforms are great.

But you know what? At least this thing has an HDMI output.
And a micro SD slot. And after fees and shipping, it's only around $100-$120. There's also a white one, apparently. No need to wait for bundles.
lol I couldn't resist

Here's the link to buy it from a Taobao seller (Chinese eBay):

MALI 400-MP

Isnt this the 2nd Vita knock-off? Pretty sure i've seen a similar one a few months ago.
Yeah, but it had one analog stick. And looked like it had better build quality.

Yep, thats the one i was thinking about indeed :) I actually found a 3rd one searching on Google for it now:

http://www.tomsguide.com/us/pictures-story/356-knockoff-gadgets-counterfeit.html (its number 5 of 16 on that list).

Chinese copies are serious business.
Indeed. Some of them are actually pretty good too (at least by the looks of it compared to the originals).

A crappy Chinese device where no body that invented anything will get any money. I hope they ban this outside of China where they respect IP.

So android PSP knockoff and a Vita one.

why there is no 3DS knockoffs yet?
Maybe it is too expencive to make because of the two screens. There excist fake DS hardware though, so i'm not sure. Or maybe it is much easier to just make one screen because of Android usage.

I wanted to buy a device like this for emulation long ago, but for some reasons I never did, maybe now is the time.
I'd like to try out one of these myself, but i'm afraid that the build quality is too bad compared to the price (it is fairly cheap, but i wont pay ~$100 for something that isnt good to use).

It's incredibly sad that even a Chinese knock off has a capacitive screen, while Nintendo is too cheap to use them.

It also removed the horribly useless back touch screen.

So... two thirds of the appeal will disappear in a couple of months max when the PSX emulator is available for Vita, uh? Seems like a waste :p

Nice ! Hope it will keep Sony honest (Read: roll out compat. library + Gaikai -- at least local version -- fast). Will probably hurt PSP in Asia more than Vita though.
Those back speakers -- if they are speakers -- will be covered up during use.

These units will be pre-loaded with pirated games and movies in the stores.

A visiting friend got a 7" ICS Android tablet from China for US$80 or less. Loaded with emulators and Android games/apps too. Battery lasts a grand total of 2 hours, and screen is blurry/interlaced. I was highly impressed nonetheless.

Next day, I crashed it accidentally by copying 60 photos to the existing \DCIM\100ANDRO directory. Wouldn't boot after that. Took me a good 5 minutes to figure out what's going on.

But for $80, who cares !

The sticks won't be analog, I think, just like on the Bitt gaming tablet I have, just having the exact same function as the d-pad and action buttons. Still nice for playing Robotron on MAME.

I like the way it looks, I wonder how good a fully black Vita would look.

The Mali 400 GPU is the same as the one my tablet has, just a single core version, not very powerful for 3D, but still adequate for most games and quite good for emulation.

512MB RAM is a big mistake though, Android 4 doesn't run very smoothly on that.

It's just... wow. The build of a Sony handheld. The name of a Microsoft console. The games of a Nintendo catalog. We've come a long way.

Isn't the word "Droid" trademarked by Lucasfilm? That Chinese company better watch out from a lawsuit from George Lucas.

One thing I never understood about these knockoffs - when they're THAT similar in build, isn't there SOME kind of infringement they can sue their pants off for? I mean COME ON, even the raised edges that go around the dual analog sticks, face buttons and d-pad are identical to the Vita.
