Controllers also shouldn't be built into the phone imo.
This is a bad opinion imo

Okay, so I finally got around to do my first quest (3 Burango):
- Interface looks super crisp, way better than on 3DS (surprise surprise)
- Game looks pretty good, it has been quite some time but I'd say more than a tad better than PSP
- Framerate feels like a solid 30 to me, I don't know if there is a way to measure this on iOS devices, will look around
- Touch controls were okay, camera reminded me a bit of my first time with MH3G on the 3DS
- No official way to import PSP saves, but you have the same "Import char from MHP2Gi save" setting we know from the PSP titles
- Game download was ~700mb, unpacked on iOS ~1GB
I recorded some footage on-device with Display recorder, will see if I can upload it for you
Hm.
Upon further inspection, the controls for sliding the attack left, right, up and down seem clunky as hell.
I'll keep playing on my 3DS, cheers.
It supports Gamepads bro
I nice consideration for bringing games like this to Mobile and setting a nice Precedent
I don't care if MH is on the PSP, 3DS, VITA, WII U or PS4.
I'm happy as long as its on a dedicated gaming system.
Try hooking up a bluetooth gamepad and break down the options
It looks like you can restore to a more traditional HUD (without the touch overlay) in some of the screens
Can you confirm?
Yes, once a controller is connected the touch overlay disappears. You can also completly disable the target camera or choose one of two types (I guess one will be full lock-on as in the trailer, the other one will be single lock-on like 3DS). As per the PSP version, you can invert axis, change bowgun zoom mode etc and also disable map and cockpit.
Well, at least you're honest.I just want this to break away from the Nintendo chains.
It wouldn't be called Portable 4th, since 4 is already portableIf this does well Portable 4th might actually end up on iOS instead of Vita which would be shocking.

This is amazing to hear. Capcom did a great job with this port.
lolCan't be unseen, AHH! Item selector is not correctly centered ;_;

It's probably meant to be played with a BT controller. Which one, I have no idea. Are most of the smartphone controllers pretty standard across the board?
Hexa Drive is behind this port btw: http://hexadrive.jp/hexablog/ゲーム/1487/
Its more annoying to me how much screen it takes up
Is that adjustable?
Nice blog post, I will make sure to readlater, thanks!the google translated version
I will look into it, currently trying to get a PSP save working. They actually have the exact same file size, so it might be possible.

App seems to already contain all quests translated to english, german, french etc., haha. So maybe they really plan on releasing it here.
Also, a folder called "localize" that contains translated UI:
Rendered cutscenes are 480x272 or even 480x362 (4:3) tho, so probably not redone for the iOS version.
Well there it is
I would take that as pretty much a confirmation. I wonder if there is a way to change the game to english somehow since the files are stored locally

It'd probably be called MH4G 2nd or whatever ridiculous Capcom title they think of.
yiep (just questfiles for now, will dig deeper as this works)
Hope this bombs, need to focus on 5 on the 3ds/wii U
Why on earth do they keep piling on the releases for Japan only? At least bring it worldwide. The Japanese audience is already spoiled enough with MH games. And, to boot, rather than releasing for vita, they release for iOS.. in Japan ONLY. Wtf?
It's already playable on the Vita. . .in English. . .right now. . .
The title being not Freedom Unite should give it away, no?Why the hell doesn't this say 'japan only' in the thread title. I think I'm actually a little upset about that. Got my hopes up.
It won't.Hope this bombs, need to focus on 5 on the 3ds/wii U
SE also released FFVI on Android first, as well as Pictlogica. The one exception seems to be SEGA, with PSO2es releasing first on Android and the iOS version still under development.

First webm, decided to show a bit of the auto-lock on. Good decision to implent on a touch-screen device.

If this is a sign of where Monster Hunter 5 is going...
Mobile is literally the only realistic place left for them to put out new games that still use original PS2 assets, it's been a nightmare scenario for a while now!
That said, this seems like a perfectly fine old game port just like the others that phones have amassed by now (GTA etc).
I'd be more tolerable with remaining with ps2-ish era assets if weren't in fucking 240p. Anyway, if I could play this on ipad with a controller, I'd probably bite, though the last thing I need is play more freedom unite.
Looks like it's a decent port after all. I'm actually hoping the touch screen control sucks enough to force people to buy controller. Let's us see how the touch control fairs in higher rank mission.Okay, so I finally got around to do my first quest (3 Burango):

They already have a MHFU iOS Logo design as well, I guess they didn't do that for nothing ^^

Well thats pretty much a confirmation if Ive ever seen one
Now we just need ANDROID!
Wouldn't they have called it "... for Mobile" if they were doing an Android version also?
Eeeh, a real lock on rubs me the wrong way. I mean if you're touch only I guess it's the only option that would work but it ruins the actual traditional monster hunter gameplay. Now it's a Zelda boss. Couldn't they have done it like the 3DS with tap to focus camera?
woah, not sure I like permanent lock-onFirst webm, decided to show a bit of the auto-lock on. Good decision to implent on a touch-screen device.

Well, hopefully the newer ones stay on actual dedicated gaming platforms.

Indeed, heaven forbid the franchise moves to a more powerful and flexible platform with a much larger userbase and an actual account system. The horror!
