Got home, turned the game on, saw the score, and turned it off (3-1, 3rd period).

What was bad about the reffing, since I'm to lazy to watch the highlights too.

I figured they were going to lose also *shrugs
Probably the worst part was the 2 times the Wings had pucks in the net but the refs were way, way early with whistles even though the puck was loose.
One of them in particular was just awful, and at a very important moment. The score was 3-1 Flames and the Wings had some momentum and managed to score, only the whistle was for some reason blown before the puck went in. Instead of getting a goal, the Flames managed to score right afterwards. There's a big difference between having a 3-2 game or a 4-1 game.

Also, the refs simply refused to call any penalties to the Flames. Word is that Keenan had been complaining about the reffing in the last game between these two teams and it seems like they listened.
With a little over 4 minutes left, when the Wings had managed to make it a one goal game despite being down 4-1 earlier in the period, there was one of the most blatant hookings you're going to see, and no call. It was the kind of situation that is a penalty 10 times out of 10, especially since the Flames had been on 4 PP's and the Wings only 1.
I could go on and on about the calls and non-calls that were made.. even the icing and deflection calls seemed to go the Flames way.

The big deciding factor in the game was goaltending, with Ozzie giving up 3 terrible goals. But no doubt the officiating comes in 2nd place. When the winning team's fans are thanking the refs after the game, you know there was some bullshit going on.

DopeyFish

Not bitter, just unsweetened
refs make stupid call, gerber gets mad and ejected

seriously

WHAT THE FUCK IS WITH THE TERRIBLE REFEREES THIS SEASON

about the worst i've ever seen in all my years watching hockey

the puck a) can't be seen on any camera because it's under gerbers fucking PAD!

b) The ref isn't in good position as all he can see is gerbers numbers, he can't see the puck because of where it was

c) GERBER WAS FUCKING SHOVED (speared) INTO THE NET

seriously, the nhl is becoming a fucking embarassment in terms of rules enforcement

*shakes head*

Ovechkin and some teammates got loose before Tuesday's game by playing with a soccer ball outside the locker-room. Ovechkin, showing his sense of humour, was dressed in a "Coach's Corner" T-shirt and "Hockey Night In Canada" boxer shorts. The word "RESPECT" was printed in black letters across the back of the shirt.

I can attest to the puck being in the net and not counting when I played in high school. In other news, they pulled off the comeback today and got the win, so that is good.

Yep they played great tonight... ten more to go, hopefully all wins.

The league won't let that happen. If they won't let Nashville be moved they aren't going to let the winningest team in league history and one of the original six be moved which is located in the second biggest hockey market. The Canadiens are religion in Quebec. Never gonna happen.

here are my 3 stars of the game:

3. Ryan Kesler taking a skate to the back of the head and then scoring 2 goals

2. Daniel Sedin getting two teeth knocked out by a high stick, going out on the powerplay, scoring the powerplay goal, and THEN going off to get stitched up

1. Darcy Hordichuck slamming Turco into the boards

Really? I would have given first star to Marty Turco for letting in 4 goals on 21 shots.

This year's Canadian Eastern Conference teams are all a bunch of jokes. I hope Habs drop off the playoff list for the epic LOLZ. This will be a wake-up call for Canadians to realize that those teams are so profitable they don't really care about winning anymore. Canadian Western Conference teams are all looking pretty good though... except for Oilers... lol Oilers :lol

Fuck. We now have the same amount of points as the Senators. What shame.

Do you know how far we've fallen? A co-worker mentioned something about "look on the birght side, maybe you'll end up getting Schenn's younger brother". At the start of the season, I would have laughed in his face.

Now? You know what I said? "...Hmmmmmm."

What a terrible cursed season. I just hope that we don't have some Karmic blackmark on the franchise for trading Honest Ave. It's like in The Green Mile-we hurt one of God's favourite creatures. :(

I would have liked to play the Stars in the playoffs again, the last series was damn entertaining (especially that long overtime duel that lasted for a few hours).

Actually, after looking into the remaining schedule, I changed my mind on Anaheim. Games in red are against higher rank teams that have a reason to show up and play hard. Bolded teams are those in direct contention for 7th and 8th in the West

Dallas, Edmonton, and Anaheim are the ones most in control of their futures.

Dallas's mean current ranking of future opponents suggests easy opponents, meaning a good mix of easy games and games where they control their own destiny. All other teams in contention for the last 2 spots have at least 2 games they could easily lose to higher ranked teams (shown in red). Dallas is still very much alive.

Nashville is probably the one most likely to not make the playoffs. The mean current rank of future opponents suggests difficult opponents and a large number of hard games. Also, they have very little control of their future, with only one game against a team in contention for 7th and 8th place.

Edmonton has a very tough time ahead. Canadian rival Calgary could really ruin Edmonton's parade very easily, and a determined Ducks team could win both their games against Edmonton. This could potentially knock then out of 7th and 8th.

So I think we can say Nashville is out, and that Anaheim is in the best position to get in (fewer hard teams). Dallas has a great chance to still get back in.

Note: If St Louis can win all 3 games against Columbus (or some combo of Columbus losses to Nashville and St Louis), 6th place will be up for grabs as well. I doubt this will happen though, as Columbus has been a rather consistently good team this year. It still is interesting, though, that most of the teams left for Columbus to face are trying to get in still.

My guess:

6) Columbus
7) Anaheim
8) St. Louis

They'll fall back to the pack as early as Sunday or Tuesday, but I don't see them losing a playoff spot either. Friday's Edmonton/Anaheim game and the Blues/Blue Jackets home and home on Sat/Sun are going to be awesome.
no 3 point games though, please

If only Colorado could muster up something and play spoiler against the Ducks here down the stretch. Go Avs!

If the Preds don't have Arnott back by Tuesday, they're done. And yes, it's 4 in the morning and I'm staring at schedules and playoff stretch run numbers... don't judge me :(

to be fair, it's a little ridiculous to expect dallas to make the playoffs after losing zubov and morrow for the entire season, and then richards for a month. you take away the top (offensive) defenseman and two of the three top forwards from any team, and there's a good chance they miss the playoffs.

fucking crazy that only one pacific team could make the postseason, whereas potentially all 5 central teams could.

Pretty interesting stats on the call differential for teams when they're home or visiting:
http://gooseman-hockey.blogspot.com/2009/03/call-differential-hv-by-team.html

The game that drew attention to looking at it this ways was the Calgary/Detroit game. I can understand why such a game will draw people's attention. Detroit is has the biggest differential in the league at 33.6% between their home and road call rate, while Calgary is at number 5, with a 24.8% differential. For each of them, it is like there is a complete different rule book when they are playing at home and on the road. Negative numbers represent more calls made on the visitors, positive on the home team.

Pittsburgh is one of only 5 teams with a positive differential, i.e they get more penalties called against them at home than they do on the road.
Overall in the league, there is more than an 11% advantage for the home team.

Legwand took a puck to the puck in practice this morning and is doubtful for the San Jose game tomorrow, being reevaluated in the morning. The Preds are falling apart ;_;

A puck to the puck, eh?

MAF's been holding down the fort for the Pens in the first. Woot. And a 1-0 lead so far...

Malkin is just ripping up the Flames right now. Damn...wish he would have finished that coast to coast rush.

Also, MAF says NO.

You mean, finish it by scoring or finish it by completely decapitating Vandermeer instead of just de-lidding him? ;) It's probably for the best he didn't score because it would have sucked to have the goal called back after that rush.

Loved Pierre's call on that play, from "WTF THIS IS AN OUTRAGE HOW DARE THEY CALL A PENALTY ON MALKIN" to "huh vandermeer is bleeding pretty good here on the bench for some unknown reason" in like 4 seconds. :lol

Flames playing pretty well, not "they should be winning" well but a good road game.

Dear Flames: I think if you let Hal Gill score on you a) you ain't winning and b) you can't blame me for watching Lost instead. Good bye.

FOR FUCK SAKES FINISH THOSE EMPTY NETTERS, PENS.

2-0 win. Should have/could have been 3-0. Congrats to MAF.

Pens are looking like a playoff team right now. Mmm, I love this time of the year.
