Not getting the hate. The first tweet is confirming a fact coming out of ubis conference, the second one about the box art is critical of Xbox. He’s always been the Microsoft reporter for the verge, but he’s talking to a mass audience so even though it’s kind of obvious thats how disc based ps5 upgrades would work it’s worth it to report to his more casual audience.

Well, he's not spreading misinformation. That's on UbiSoft, isn't it? Isn't it on Ubisoft to give the go ahead to allow PSN to give you the PS5 version of WatchDogs if you already have the PS4 version? They're using the disc as a form of licensing. I would like to assume that if you have the digital version of WatchDog PS4 you would get a free upgrade to the PS5 version. Wouldn't it work the same on Series X? If you had the disc version? Unless you only have to authenticate once.... if that's the case, the Xbox guys in here should set up a disc sharing setup! You guys should get together, split the cost of one copy and mail the disc around! BOOM, everyone wins... except for Ubisoft

I really don't understand how this is pathetic and biased? There hasn't yet been any sort of confirmation about whether or not physical PS4 game disks would grant you access to the PS5 version of the game that's crossbuy (or whatever Sony decides to call their version of Smart Delivery if they have one) so all he is doing is just posting that that's the case at least with these Ubisoft games, same as Xbox.
I mean maybe this is a subtle diss to the PS5 DE? But even so I really don't think it matters

Xbox One /= the entire Xbox brand.
There was a time when Halo was phenomenal, the 360 and original Xbox had a ton of exclusives, the platform had the best online/features around that available, and regularly clocked in as the best performer for playing third party games on console (which is where most people prefer to be).
They created enormous goodwill for two generations, and that's what people want to get back to.

I was one of those people but I wouldn't go as far as to say 2 generations, it was more like one and a half, kinect screwed things up considerably and them taking the focus away from AAA exclusives to Kinect family friendly BS that always played like crap was a blunder. I always have had PlayStation consoles and up until the N64 and dreamcast I always had Nintendo and sega as well but something about Xbox when it first came out got me really hyped up, same with the 360 but as time went on and it was clear they weren't really committed to doing true AAA quality work and introducing new IP's I stopped caring. The X1 was the first xbox console I had no interest in at launch, I did eventually get the One X because I wanted superior 3rd party console experiences but I won't be doing that again next gen. I am getting a PS5 day one, the XSX I'm open to it if they show me games I want to play otherwise I have no problem skipping xbox again.

No that's the opposite of what he said in another post, digital to digital is fine, if you have the disc based game on PS4 you need the disc based game on PS5 to verify that you have it. It's the same thing that's been going on all generation with disc based games, they load to the HDD and then the disc has to be in the console in order to play it.

I know it seems like a pretty factual comment he laid out about the disc being required and that the uograde was free. However, OP was correct in assuming there must be some sort of evil intention behind the tweet.
