I think the conversation was a little too inside in this episode.

Also a lot of the charm of the show is kinda gone because Norm is totally serious about the sponsors. I can't blame him for that, but the ads where Norm and Adam ripped apart the sponsors were always something to look forward to.

What is up with VPN?

They do nothing to promote Norm on his channel. No mention of Norms return. No mention of when the show is going to air.

I like Norm a lot and the previous podcast episodes were mostly good, but I didn't really care for the Ray Romano one. Not too many laughs throughout, Fred Stoller's skype call went on way too long and was just kind of awkward, and there seemed to be even more commercials throughout the episode.
Hoping it gets better again.

I agree that this wasn't his best episode. I actually thought Stoller's awkwardness saved the show from being complete shit as it finally gave Norm something to rip on. Ramano seems like a nice guy but he was pretty boring.

And yeah the commercials used to be awesome, the Mangrate thing was one of the highlights of the entire show, now they are canned and boring.

It was entertaining but definitely not all that hilarious. Stoller definitely saved it for me too, Norm always rips him and it's great.

Do we know the list of upcoming guests?

Stoller wasn't terrible or anything. I think maybe it was the Skype quality/people cutting each other off because of Skype that was getting on my nerves a bit. If he was there in person it could have been a better segment in my eyes. Obviously that wasn't possible but I'm just throwing it out there. Although it was pretty hilarious when Ray was touching the screen where Stoller had something on his face lmao.
It's definitely a shame that he doesn't (can't?) do the commercials off the cuff anymore.

Finally watched it last night. Probably the weakest episode of the show thus far but still entertaining. Ray Romano never seemed to get fully on board and the appearance of Fred Stoller ruined whatever flow of the conversation had. What a weird decision to have him come on for so long in Norm's first episode back. He's just so mopey and he seemed to make Ray Romano uncomfortable. To cap things off, Romano wasn't game for the jokes segment. I was so looking forward to the return of the joke segment and this one was totally flat.

I agree with everyone who said that Norm looked too restrained. Maybe he was trying to avoid subject matter that could be objectionable to future employers? Who knows.

That said, it was still enjoyable and there were a lot of funny moments.

Pretty much.

I agree that Norm's jabs at Stoller were some of the best moments but I still wish they hadn't included him.

Regarding the ads, I don't think you're being fair. The Mangrate affair was one of highlights of last year for sure but I think that was a case of capturing lighting in a bottle. I don't think there's any reason to assume that the ads for Hulu and Dollar Shave Club would have reached Mangrate-levels if he had done them live.

I thought the opening was hilarious, as well as Norm forgetting Adam Eget's name at the beginning.

Definitely not the funniest episode, but still a decent start.

Are we getting a new episode tonight? Is it going to be streaming live? Did last week's episode stream live?
Presumably yes but we haven't gotten any signs yet. Norm hasn't mentioned anything, nor has the VPN twitter account.

IIRC they said that they had shot a few of these in advance so I'm guess that we will get one of those. I assume that we'll have more notice if they're actually going to shoot a live one.

No episode?

I was just watching the Ray Romano episode, and on the right side of the screen it displays a playlist for season 2.The only other video on the list is an episode with Adam Sandler listed as a private video... weird. I'm not sure why I can see it listed, since it's supposed to be "private", but it's there...

Good news overall I'd say. I've got my DVR set.

Thanks for the heads up. I can't wait to check it out after work.

That was fantastic. Any worry based on the season opener can now be put to rest.

Can't believe this show is truly back. I must have done something to deserve this but I don't know what.

The Adam Sandler episode was quite good. Way, way better than the Ray Romano one.
I would love it if Norm replaced Craig Ferguson. However assuming he doesn't, I hope he continues doing the podcast or at least something similar to it.

Best part of episode 2 was when Eget actually contributed to the flow of the conversation in a non-awkward way and Norm's reaction to it. He whipped his head to Adam and was just aghast. Then the whole crew off camera busted out laughing.

Also didn't realize they have at least a couple of showbiz writers behind the scene.

Watched the Conan episode after work yesterday. Great stuff.

His energy was sooo much different in that segment than when he does the podcast. It was great to see that he still has that in him.

Also, lol at him flubbing the start of his monologue during the 60 second audition. His joke delivery is second to none but in some ways he is a very unpolished performer. I re-watched a lot of his weekend update stuff last year and he actually tripped over his lines quite a bit.

Hahahaha.

"Adam Eget, getting involved!"

Norm's Late Late Show "audition" on Conan will probably cement every comedy nerd's desire to see him hired, and every executive's decision to not hire him.

At least we have the podcast.

I only now discovered Norm after Bill Burr & Doug Stanhope talked about how they love him on Bill's podcast. Crazy good. Man, how could I have missed out on him all this time?!

Watch his special Me Doing Stand-Up asap. Possibly my favorite of all time, but then again it's still fairly recent.

Unless you have already. In which case there's also his CD Ridiculous, all his Conan appearances over the years and obviously the podcast.

Oh and this absolute gem.

So glad it's back, but disappointed that they were recycling jokes in the Sandler episode (which led to Norm recycling his "haunted house" anecdote). That's just lazy.

Norm recycles a lot of ancedotes. He told the exact same story about being cut from Grown Ups and Sandler shouting orders at everyone on Stern a few years ago.

He's told that story on the podcast before too. It was relevant and came up in the flow of the conversation, so I didn't mind it as much. To me that's far less annoying than pre-written jokes being recycled.
