I guess I should add that my guess of the 16th is based on the fact previous Sega 3D titles have been released right in the middle of the month (around the 2nd or 3rd Thursday):

January 15: After Burner II
February 12: Fantasy Zone
March 12: Out Run
April 16: Fantasy Zone II
May 14: Thunder Blade

Therefore, based on this pattern, I would guess that....

July 16: Streets of Rage 2
August 13: Gunstar Heroes
September 17: Sonic 2

I took the plunge on Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3. It's downloading now. My birthday was last week, so I'm writing it off as a late gift to myself. I was debating on whether to get Hyrule Warriors on the eShop last week but missed the E3 sale ... then I found out that this game was coming out. Didn't know it was an eShop exclusive until yesterday (which explains why there weren't any listings for it on Amazon or Best Buy). It still seems very under promoted as far as June-July releases go. Had an itch to play this sort of game but the 3DS Hyrule Warriors is still like six months out.

So about an hour into Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3 ... I've never played one of these games in a while. I played Hyrule Warriors for about a week back in November before trading it in to put toward Smash Bros. for Wii U.

-Spoken dialog is in Japanese. Nothing dubbed. All subbed.
-Decent character creation. It's part of the game's initial setup. There's a decent amount of customization within certain settings (like tweak eye spacing, shape, size, color, etc). I wouldn't say it's all encompassing depth but ladies (and gents), there's an option for bust size.

-The game itself has slight hiccups. It does look more like a PS2 game and lacks some of the graphical details I've seen from one or two people playing the Vita version today via PSTV today. It supports a decent number of enemies on the screen and thankfully they're animated well. They don't cut frames of animation when you're a distance away from them.

-I guess it feels a bit basic. I think my expectations were riding a bit high after playing that Wii U Hyrule Warriors game. Honestly, I don't remember it all that well either. There's definitely a beat-em-up vibe but the theme is obviously different. Link and Zelda are Japanese exclusive characters (hiss, boo) ... would have been nice if they included it in the Stateside and European releases.

-Character swapping works instantaneously. Things didn't pop in randomly or weirdly whenever I switched rapidly between three or four different characters. There's mountable horses that make up for lack of running (as far as I can tell). NPC characters tend to move pretty fast when you order them to hold or attack a specific position on the map.

-The DLC is absurd given this a $40 digital only game on its own. I think there's entire DLC packs that cost $20-$30. The eShop page doesn't list out all the DLC prices like they do in-game. Obviously, not going to bother here.

-Challenge mode is interesting ... there are different maps with a 5:00 minute limit. Basically, find things and fight enemies. You end the stage by defeating all bosses that appear on the map and exit via a staircase. Rush to find all the treasure you can and get out of there.

-There's a weapon system with attributes and leveling. No clue how this works yet. Fighting with characters or helping them during battle builds relationships and unlocks extra scenarios.

-Does recognize the CPP and supports custom button mapping (ZL and ZR can be assigned for one or two limited tasks). It kind of works like Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. The buttons can optionally be assigned to take some touch screen tapping stuff (like moving NPC units around). Game recognizes the N3DS and shows you the standard model when you're mapping the buttons. The other face buttons and whatnot can swap functions to your liking.

All in all ... it's taking me a while to break into the game. Turned all spoken dialog off in favor of reading.

I did try the Japanese version the other night before buying this. Having completely localized menu screens are a blessing because it gets too complicated otherwise.

Well, it is called Samurai Warriors... While Tom Cruise was briefly one of them, samurai do tend to speak in Japanese, you know. I think it's great news the game isn't dubbed. I wish Capcom hadn't dubbed Sengoku Basara. Hearing actual Japanese historical figures, as fictionalized as they were, speaking in English was very off-putting.

While I agree in most cases, I actually thought the english dub added to the ridiculousness of Sengoku Basara and was quite fitting. Troy Baker as Mitsunari was just too awesome.

But yeah, Samurai Warriors just feels more right with the original japanese VA.

Thanks for the write-up, haven't seen many impressions for Chronicles 3 yet. Will probably skip it myself, just doesn't look that appealing with One Piece Musou 3 and a couple others right around the corner, but may get it when it goes on sale down the line, but probably on Vita then.

Hey guys I have 6 pounds in eshop credit. Got a 15 pound card for smt4. what else do u recommend? Have no other eshop purchases ever and don't intend to ever do any after this balance is over. Pleas recommend me must have games.

Is Pullblox still worth it after Fullblox has been released?

As silly of a game it is to show your friends at how ridiculous it is, it gets repetitive rather fast.

I GUESS for $5, you could do worse, but just don't expect the silliness to keep the game afloat for too long. Heck, I think it was originally an arcade game.

Figured I'd mention this here among download-loving friends: I've got a physical version of Mighty No. 9 pre-ordered but I Kickstarted the game so I have a digital copy already paid for. If anyone was thinking of downloading it I'd sell it tax-free and you'd get all the DLC included for free, and you might even get it a bit early. I wouldn't even have to be the Wii U version, necessarily. You guys know how to PM me!

I picked up Sonic The Hedgehog on sale and I'm surprised what M2 did with it. The level select screen is really nice because this game is still pretty tough.

Now to get Shinobi 3.

You get a VC release of Super Butoden 2 on the SNES with this purchase in Europe.. Japanese version, of course. But it's a 3DS promotion, and it doesn't say the SNES game is for Wii U or anything.. So, SNES on 3DS later in the year? Probably not, but then what is this?

Edit: L~A tells me it is indeed for 3DS.

Light week for me, but given that I just bought my own copy of Splatoon that's appreciated.

I fail to see the point of dropping prices for 6 straight months, though. Even Atlus takes a couple weeks off, y'know?

Hmmmmm.....

The 3DS could already play SNES games technically as some were included in Japanese releases of Dragonball and Shin-chan games, but they were part of retail packages and not available separately or digitally.

SNES VC was my first thought when seeing the n3DS, it needs to happen!

I still haven't played a Link to the Past or Super Metroid before
