Giant Bombcast - 06/28/16

What was up with that SFV section? I shit on that game more than it probably deserves and even I think that part was crazy.

I mean, yeah, June update is July 1st. That is symbolically hilarious, but doesn't actually matter to anyone.

Thank you GAF for warning me about potential Insider spoilers on this episode. I'll skip it until I finish the game.

There were no spoilers, unless you consider an interesting graphical mechanic that literally happens in the first 2 minutes (and isn't treated as some kind of twist either, it's just a pretty basic but cool design choice) a "spoiler". I listened to that entire thing and i still have no clue what the game is or what it's about other than "it's like Limbo but better".

Like, I totally get being sensitive with regards to story spoilers for games that just came out and are really narrative driven, but if you think that mentioning that certain gameplay mechanics exist or discussing how they work on a podcast that discusses games is somehow a spoiler, then the onus is on you to to protect your media blackout, not on the people who's job it is to produce content based around game discussions.

Instant mashed potatoes are potatoes that have been through an industrial process of cooking, mashing and dehydrating to yield a packaged convenience food that can be reconstituted by adding hot water or milk, producing a close approximation of mashed potatoes. They are available in different flavors.

Guess it has a different name in the US

Yeah I found that a little harsh. It might actually be a full game this week. How about we celebrate that? I know I am looking forward to having a reason to jump back into it.

As someone who just finished Inside and listened to this podcast last night, I have no fucking idea what people in this thread consider to be spoilers anymore.

You should be perfectly fine.

Ill never understand spoilers here, every time I go in a Souls thread and they tag the boss names I just stare blankly at the screen and think wtf. Note some bosses may deserve this as they tie into a super vague story... Most do not.

People tag boss names in those games because figuring out what the boss does is half the fun of the boss encounter. If you walk into Boss #4, see the name, and then immediately go "Oh yeah, this is the boss that you're supposed to X, Y, and Z against", it kind of ruins the whole damn encounter and/or surprise.

If you're the type of person who thinks random boss names are "spoilers"... why would you know the strategies in advance? Wouldn't you avoid strategy discussions at all costs?

The Inside talk was so frustrating. Like it was 15 minutes straight of saying nothing but "It's really good guys, it's really good. It's better than Limbo. it's really good."

For God's sake, talk some bloody specifics and let the people who care about spoilers skip past the segment. That discussion said virtually nothing about the game.

But then there are complaints about zomg spoilers.

It's kind of a no win situation.

A comforter...cover?!

Most nice comforters are down filled and require dry cleaning. To keep them clean you use interchangeable slipcovers.

Of course this is a site where like half the population recoiled in horror at the suggstion of washing their sheets more than once a year, so...

This is how most conversations go with recently released games.

"Oh, it's so good... there's this... wait... can't spoil... well it's soooo good... I don't want to spoil anything... the submarine is cool... is that the part you were talking about... yes... no... oh, they show it in the reveal trailer it's not a real spoiler... trust me it's so much better than the last game... can I say... no... err... it's so hard not to spoil... the mind control section is really cool... errrr.... it's soo good.....WOOAH Dan don't say that you're spoiling it!"

That's exactly what the quick look was too, Brad running to the right, essentially doing nothing in the very intro and just saying "ITS SO GOOD".

I still have no idea what the game is.

oh so they're like Max Payne 3 fans

It's probably mediocre like all the other games Brad drops effusive praise on.

I guess this is another instance of the bomb crew being in their own bubble.

So weird that they're acting like Capcom has "fooled" the cheering crowd and covered up their disatrous one day delay by releasing one more character than expected 30 days earlier. Yeah good job you devious Capcom guys, you sure fooled me into being positive on SFV.

Paper or plastic?
Between that prison conversation and the revelation to Dan that the US justice system doesn't always treat everyone equally, I am so thankful he didn't end up with a career in law enforcement. Jesus.

Just listened to the Inside section. What did Brad even spoil? I honestly don't know.

some unexpected stuff that happens if you came into this game blind. glad i skipped it. i blame Dan. he asked too many questions which made Brad go specific. Glad Jeff put a stop to it.

I don't.....what? Because you're in the OT where everyone is talking about the game. If the names aren't spoiler-ed (what we're talking about) they you immediately get the boss mechanics ruined for you for any future bosses you aren't up to yet. Souls games are all about discussing with other peeople what half the things in the game do, so taking out the "talking to other people" or "reading the OT" kind of ruins the other half of the fun of those games.

I'd, of course, prefer to have the whole mechanics part spoilered, but that's never going to happen. 90% of the time it's someone posting the name and then somehing the boss does. I'm okay with the 10% of posts that are just "Oh man, [Boss Name] was rough!"

Because what they've shown at the last two E3s looks insanely fun.

Horizon looks so good!

Because Horizon has shown off new, really incredible shit every time it's on display?

Game looks and apparently plays good, seems like it's worthwhile to be excited about it. I know I am.

How many games "look" great before launch only to end up disappointing? Again, it's the kill zone team I worry about. I have no reason to believe they are suddenly going to deliver on a great game. The killzone games looked great before they were released, too. Sure Horizon looks great, but will that translate to a full, fun game once it launches? I obviously hope I'm wrong, but I kinda doubt it.

We'll see.

Until this bombcast I have NEVER heard of anyone sleeping under an uncovered duvet!

Is it an american thing?

Surely it's easier to put a cover on and wash that, than trying to wash an entire duvet frequently!?

I've stayed at a German hotel (in Cologne even) and I don't remember anything odd about their beds. But I'm European, maybe we all have fucked up beds?

Well I listened to the episode anyway despite my post above. People were right - no spoilers at all. No idea what people were bitching about.

I think it's super weird how they don't have a cover for the comforter. That's the thing I wash all the time and the comforter itself very rarely.

Americans, man.

Yeah, I don't really get how it works over there. Sounded like they're used to an uncovered duvet with a separate sheet you sleep under?

Why do you sound so worried? Shadowfall is the only mainline KZ game that isn't good. The first 3 games are all pretty solid, and reviewed very well. I'm not sure why you're leaning on the impression that historically the Killzone games are bad games.

Brad's comments about how he sees Limbo now was my impression back when it came out, I waspretty underwhelmed. Some of the praise was so weird. The game is not even that old, it's not like our whole perception of puzzles in games has changed.

Not really. I throw all of the covers on my bed in the wash at the same time and it only takes one run through the dryer to get everything dry. It's exactly like every other load of laundry I've ever done.

Let's be real. Dan's "Comforter" is probably the same Return of the Jedi blanket he's been sleeping under since he was six. Machine washing probably isn't an issue.

I would definitely prefer that they discuss some current game indepth with spoilers.

So many games that interesting plots/twists/mechanics barely get talked about because have to be careful to not spoil people.

After 2 weeks everyone has forgotten the game and we get a 2 sentence summary of "that was cool" during GOTY discussions and that's it.

There's like one spoilercast a year for specific games they love. It's a bummer to hear them talk about stuff like Inside, firewatch or the witness and they can't talk about what's actually good about them.

Then they should do more spoiler casts.

If they started spoiling games I wanted to play on the bomb casts all the time then I just couldn't listen to them. Just do that separately so if you want you can have that.

Ruining the game I want to play isn't ideal.

I dunno, just wash the comforter. It doesn't take any extra work. It's big - so what?

Drying them is a fucker though. They soak up a lot of water and are not easily spun. American duvets might be different.

I am allergic but the traditional feather ones will be destroyed by regular machine washing.

Inside is kind of like fight club so basically you just spoiled Inside.
