A lot of the people were the "Barb" in high school. Feeling like you didn't fit in with the cool kids or worse, like in Barb's case, you had a close friend who suddenly is hanging out with the cool kids and you feel like they're leaving you behind to go hang out with the same people you probably used to make fun of before.

Then Barb awkwardly tries to fit in and ends up dying because of it. A lot of people just sympathize with her and feel she didn't deserve to die.

Pretty much this. But GAF is rife with Steves, so no empathy here.

Re-watching with my dad, hopefully he gets into it, he seemed neutral on it as a whole

I also learned he hasn't watched The Thing yet, gotta get that fixed asap

Those of you who love Barb will get to see her on the CW's Riverdale mid-season.

Awesome!

Riverdale sounds like the worst. Did we really need an Archie show to be more Weird Mysteries than At Riverdale High?

Can someone explain the Barb love? I don't get it. She was a relatively minor character with little to no character development. She was mainly there to act as the sidekick/foil to Nancy. Maybe this is one of those internet things that happens for no particular reason.

Yes, just feels like another forced meme to me

The adventure continues. Stranger Things 2 is coming to Netflix 2017.

Stranger Things Season 1
A love letter to the supernatural classics of the '80s, Stranger Things is the story of a young boy who vanishes into thin air. As friends, family and local police search for answers, they are drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top-secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one very strange little girl.

Stranger Things stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Natalia Dyer, Cara Buono, Charlie Heaton, and Matthew Modine.

Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer (Wayward Pines, Hidden) serve as writer, directors and co-showrunners of the series, and are executive producers along with Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen via their 21 Laps entertainment banner (The Spectacular Now, Night At The Museum, Real Steel, Date Night). Shawn Levy also serves as director. Stranger Things is a Netflix original series

Looks like 9 episodes then?

MADMAX
THE BOY WHO CAME BACK TO LIFE
THE PUMPKIN PATCH
THE PALACE
THE STORM
THE POLLYWOG
THE SECRET CABIN
THE BRAIN
THE LOST BROTHER

Or maybe 8, seeing as MADMAX doesn't fit the pattern. Might be a "season title"

I think it's really a shame they didn't do more with Barb. Pretty much all characters started off as complete stereotypes, but developed into much more complex figures during the course of the season.

Barb was just there to give Nancy a reason to start searching for the monster, and aside from a few one-off mentions noone else seemed to even acknowledge she disappeared.

Actually that's one of my few real gripes with the show. Her death was clearly intended to be shocking, but because she lacked any real character development, and the writers seemed to forget about her the moment they killed her off, it just seemed cheap

Edit: Entirely predictable but still awesome!

Yep.

She was a nobody with big hair. Meme commence!

Probably. She was Disposable Nerd #3, no idea what people are latching onto besides the superficial.

This feels like the most obvious answer...

...but this makes sense too. She's not getting my sympathy though, she was a wet blanket who sucked the fun out of everything. As a character she's more interesting dead than alive.

Yeah that was my point too, it wasn't like people had a big reason to fall in love with the character, she never evolved to anything beyond the "cautious but principled friend" trope.

If somehow she is still alive, I hope it's in a prolonged state of agony from which the only escape is a mercy killing at the hands of Nancy. Heh, take that, Barb fans.

Barb is the kind of person who will stick around, stay by your side, and watch out for you while you're busy making bad decisions.

If that's not a true friend, then I don't know what is. That's why Barb is loved even though she had limited screen time, and why her death is so tragic.

Yeah, MADMAX does seem out of place. I wonder if that's more meant to evoke the tone and atmosphere of this season. Remember the first Mad Max wasn't the apocalyptic chaos that probably comes to mind, but was set in a world on the brink of the end, where normal life hung on by a thread as anarchy and such frayed society away.

Perhaps the Upside Down will begin spreading its influence more into our reality

I don't know, I'm thinking it's going to be more like
Invasion of the Body Snatchers, since Will coughed that parasite into the sink at the end of S1.

It kind of seems up the shows alley to do something like that anyways.

BTW you guys should also check out Hidden which was written/directed by the Duffer brothers if you haven't.

It's a well done fallout shelter flick and Alexander Skarsgard does one hell of a performance.

I actually hope Skarsgard gets a role in S2 because he works really well with them.

Watched the movie this weekend. We enjoyed it and liked the
twist at/toward the end

MMarston

Was getting caught part of your plan?
...This isn't even a clever skit, she
fucking died and her rotting corpse was shown in great detail. AND the kids weren't even looking for her so she should complain to Hopper.

Fallon amateur hour.

I feel like you're dismantling the joke a little too much - skits like this require just turning the brain off entirely.

That said, it's not changing my opinion of Fallon's Tonight Show being pretty lame in general.

Oh, wow, I didnt know they directed that movie. I really enjoyed it. A very tense film

I enjoyed the show a lot but outside of ET and Alien, I didn't really catch any of the stuff lifted from other things due to not watching a lot of 80's movies outside of the biggest and the most famous ones (star wars, ET, Indiana Jones, etc). Never watched the goonies, poltergeist, close encounters, nightmare on elm street, or read any of steven kings novels. I guess I can't really comment on people's criticisms for it not being original or lacking its own identity because I haven't really watched enough of the content its referencing to make an informed decision lol.

Although, that being said, the experience I had watching the show was great. Even if the concepts or plot weren't original, I feel like if I had watched all those things I would still love the characters and the music of the show. The kids were great. So was Hopper.

I LOVE THE THEME. Can't get it out of my head.

And then I'm watching episode 5 and I'm like WTF is this music I know this music. WHAt the fuck.

And then I hear Code Talker "Since the dawn of time........" I've heard it before in a Metal Gear trailer. New Order - Elgia.

Love it.

yeah... my sometimes irrational mind, deemed this the best series just because it had a link to a MGS commercial.

This show is damn good. Started watching this around two with my mom and we are on episode six now. We'll just finish it off at this point. Probably my favorite Netflix show yet.

Just dropped off both of my Stranger Things prints at the framer. I get them back in a week and I'm excited to hang them on my main wall. I haven't had prior experience with Bottleneck Gallery, so I was really pleased at the quality once I really got a look at them at the shop. Apparently there were 700 (or 750, my memory is failing me) of the charity print and I think 180 of the Upside Down 11 print. I'd definitely do business with them again based on how these 2 look.

Just finished up the season.

This may have been everything I've ever wanted in a series. Stephen King prepped me well.
